Not only is this a pretty good show but there's a story line involving one of the characters who's a fundie Christian and her run-in with what a group of of the other characters referred to gay thugs
the "gay thugs" confronted the fundie and called her on some homophobic comments she made
she's hiding behind the "Bible says it's a sin" line so many fundies like to use to defend their bigotry

I like the show too, theodoresdaddy.
And I just realized that the actress who plays Harriett (the one who made the homophobic comments) is a well-documented lesbian. She's Cherry Jones' girlfriend!

I like this show a lot, then again everything Sorkin has done has been good.

I enjoyed West Wing for a while, then it just got old. I do not like Studio 60 one bit. I got in trouble the other week because I started screaming at the TV for being so insipid while the hubby was watching Studio 60. I don't think he will watch that show in my presence anymore.
It was when John Goodman was acting like a stupid hick, then chastising the Hollywood types for treating him like a stupid hick. DUH! If you don't act intelligent, why should you expect someone to treat you as if you were; and that doesn't give you the right to play the Hollywood thinks all rural types are stupid card. He was acting stupid!
Grrrr.
Sorkin gets flack for being preachy. I think the main problem is he is preachy in completely incongruent ways.

Man I really wanted to like this show. I loved most of the West Wing but this show is just ponderous. The bits of the skits they show are just lame beyond belief. Makes the real current SNL look like the old days. So not at all funny. I gave up on it after 4 weeks. I think the other SNL-based show 30 Rock is so much better.

I really thought the John Goodman character was trying to play to sterotypes and put the big city lawyers in their place by showing them he had all the power

But they didn't do anything disrespectful first. They know he is the judge, and they acted accordingly, even when he said crazy and idiotic things. If it was some bizarre power play then fine. But to accuse someone of thinking stereotypes when you deliberately act up that stereotype is neither enlightening nor compelling commentary.

they didn't have to do anything disrespectful-once he found out that they were worked for the network, he started playing them and they went right along
the sheriff knew that the guy had been arrested in Los Angeles and had been brought back to whatever the town's name was on an outstanding arrest warrant
