I hadn't heard of them 'til I saw a link to the group yesterday.

Last Friday night's concert in Columbus was the last the group would perform under that name. The members (Bo, Bo, Bo, and Bo) have decided that a new name is called for. The proceeds from Friday's show are to be donated to a charity of the Schembechler family's choice. I think that's pretty classy.

My big regret is that I didn't save to my hard drive the image of the poster for Friday's show. It featured four Stuka dive bombers on a hot pink and lime green background. The colors are those of the Sex Pistols album "Never Mind the Bullocks; Here Are the Sex Pistols."

I'm sure I'll get an earful but that has got to be one of the more offensive posts. sad.gif

Well, it's punk, so it's supposed to be offensive by nature.

But I don't get it. Why do they hate Michigan? And what's a Schembechler? I feel like I must be missing something here.

I'm absolutely serious. I googled the name, so I found out he was a college football coach and I see he recently died. But I still don't know why they'd hate Michigan or why they'd use his death to name their band. Is it just a juvenile college football thing?

Oh, and PS, what the hell is Ohio's "Hatecore" scene?

I've asked my officemate and she has no idea what any of this is about either, so I don't feel that out of the loop.

There has been a long rivalry between the football teams of Ohio State University and the University of Michigan. So the hate,I'm sure is aimed at the school, not the entire state.Bo Schembechler was an extremely successful coach while he was with U of M,several years ago.As far as the name of the group goes,I think they picked that name long before Bo's death.

Oh, so then it was a joke because they didn't like the team/coach, and now that he's passed away, they are going to stop being known by that name. Their final concert gives procedes to the charity of his family's choosing. Not being a follower of college football, I had no clue about any of this.

That sounds nice to me. So then I have to ask ... why are you offended?

Because he actually passed away on Friday which is the same date as the concert,so I don't see the point in posting that HIDEOUS poster. Not too mention that I absolutely hate that type of music.

Oh, okay. I see where you're coming from. I think it was probably more meant as a tribute of sorts, but admittedly throwing a punk tribute is a fine line to walk. I could see thinking it was ill-timed and in poor taste. Thanks for the info and clarification!

I'm sure now more than ever,Bo could care less and I probably shouldn't either.I guess I was just
over-reacting. unsure.gif

It's actually a pretty nice gesture though I doubt the family would take the money. There was also a band called the Dead Kennedys. Not familiar with their work though I imagine they are proaoblya punk band as well.

To fenwayguy, who displayed the poster:

That's the one. Thanks for posting it.

The DS's had used the name for years. When, on Friday, life imitated art, they decided to change the name of the group. What that new name will be is not known yet. By that time, it was too late to change the posters. I think the name on the venue was removed.

I suppose that outside of Columbus, the work receives little attention. I'd never heard of them until last week.
