I am not a regular viewer of "Cold Case" on CBS. However, tonight's episode description intrigued me. I watched the episode and am glad that I did.

The episode was about the death of a police officer in 1968. He was shot in what appeared to be a botched drug bust. As always with these shows, there was much more under the surface.

The officer (played by attractive Shane Johnson) was actually romantically involved with his partner. Who happened to be married with kids. The two were somewhat at a crossroads where they were trying to figure out if they should try having a life together.

A fellow officer (as well as the married officer's wife) discover the romance, and tries to head it off by talking to the single man's father who is also a police officer. He has no luck talking his son out of the romance, so he asks the squad Lieutenant to speak with his son. Instead the Lt. sets the guys up to be shot on a failed drug bust.

The married officer realizes the night of the incident that other officers are talking about him and his lover. So, he chooses to ride with another officer. He hears his lover call in "officer down" on the radio and spends the rest of his life missing the one person he truly loved.

It was a really beautiful, but sad episode and was handled quite well by the show. I don't know if anyone else caught it, but it was nice to see the topic dealt with so sensitively. They actually showed them kissing quite passionately, and holding hands/being affectionate. I was happy to see it on the show.

I did see the episode (because Housewives and Brothers and Sisters were reruns), but I was not expecting the gay angle, so when the two cops got in a fight and then started kissing, I about fell out of my chair. The kiss was rather passionate and there was real chemistry between the two guys. You could feel their yearning, especially in the scene where they talk about trying to have a life together.

The episode was a complete rip off of Brokeback Mountain, though from beginning to end. Not a bad thing, but just obvious.

It's funny how you see guys kissing on tv quite often now and it's not a big deal. There was an episode of Cold Case just a couple of years ago that at the end, featured a gay wedding. Though the show made a big deal about the ceremony and the romance and that the two guys were in love, the camera cut away during the kiss. Not anymore, I guess.

Cold Case has often done shows featuring gay elements and they've always handled them with sensitivity and open-mindedness. One of them featured Brandon Routh (from Superman Returns) as a gay man.

Yes they did lift scenes from "Broke Back Mountain" but hey thats not a bad thing- the show was very good and the final shot was very moving.

After Elton has an interview with Shane Johnson, the actor who played Coop. He seems like a pretty nice guy.

It appears plagarism is the sincerest form of flattery...

I like this show though I don't always get to watch it (it is one of the few I record and then watch later).

God I miss being able to watch American TV anytime I want, last night there were two dog training shows, a gardening show, a talent show, two old soccer matches, a month old american football game, and a bad soap on... at least thats all I could stand looking at before my eyes glazed over and I switched the damn thing off (Iain turned it back on and found a cricket match to not pay attention to while he studied).

Do you guys know if & when there'll be a rerun?
Anthony D. Langford
I don't know, but I am sure they will rerun it at some point during the summer. You also might want to keep an eye on Saturday nights as CBS reruns recent Cold Case episodes there sometimes. But if you don't want to wait, I archived the episode and can make you a copy.
