Hey Aus, did you see that Houston waived Erin Grant on Wednesday? Any clue what was up with that? I was surprised there was a cut made after the final roster trims were made last Friday. There actually were a few this week, including a second Houston player. Hmm... Just wondering if you knew any details.

I'm excited that I get to go see Brittany Wilkins and the Sacramento Monarchs play the Los Angeles Sparks in Sacramento this coming Saturday. Last year when we went out to see her, she didn't get to play. I'm hoping that is not the case this year. I'll be going with my high school best friend, Kirk - his first pro basketball game of any kind. Too bad there isn't another Big 12 player on either team. Would like to be able to see more of our girls in action in the pros. I will post about the game after I get back from CA early next week - if I don't post about something else sooner.

I was shocked too. Considering they need back court help in the worst way and that there are tons of Lady Raider fans in the area who'd come to games to watch her play, bad move. Not really impressed with the Comets, but haven't been for a while. More than any other franchise they seem to blunder every chance to build a championship team. Hopefully the new coach is a better talent evaluator than Van was.
Erin will most likely play overseas and take another shot at the league next year.

Disappointment for Brittany Wilkins. I went to see her in Sacramento last Saturday and she didn't play - didn't even dress, actually. Got to spend a few minutes with her after the game to catch up for the first time in a few months and she seemed optimistic that there would be a chance for her to play since DeMaya Walker had gone down with a season-ending knee injury that night. But much to her, and everyone else's, surprise, she got waived from the team two days later by the general manager who was their head coach last year and their league championship year in 2005.

On the plus side, her agent had mentioned there was a good chance she would be able to play in an Australian league from September to March on the same team as another Iowa State alum, Tracy Gahan, who has been down there for two or three seasons now. So there is that opportunity ahead for her. Hope it works out. Would be nice for her to see real playing time somewhere and get the chance to excel.

BTW, Sacramento ended up beating Los Angeles 88-85 in a fast-paced, hard-fought game. The game was a lot of fun, but I can't say I will be paying a whole lot of attention to the Monarchs anymore without Britt there.

Sounds like fun! I've been thrilled by what P. Pierson has been doing in Detroit. Not surprising at all to anyone who has followed Tech or the Big 12 but Laimbeer's style seems to fit her to a T. I'm going to try to hit a Comets game once Swoopes comes back from her back injury.

Good news about Pierson. Not surprising that she's doing well - she was such a force at Tech during her years there. I always loved watching the Pierson/Welle matchups when we played!

Update on Brittany Wilkins - she signed her contract to play this winter in Australia in the city of Adelaide. She will be teammates with former Iowa Stater Tracy Gahan, who has been playing there for the last few years. In the meantime, she is working in the front office for the Sac'to Monarchs and still a part of the practice squad. She'll be doing that until September when she leaves to play overseas.

Thought this was interesting - the Big XII led the nation in attendance again, breaking it's own record set a few years back. Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Iowa State were all in the top 10 for home attendance across the nation.

AusTech - saw Erin Grant got RE-signed with Houston. That must make you feel good! smile.gif

Yep! They realized what I'd known for a while, they made a mistake cutting her. I watched her play limited minutes in the Indiana game which was a fun game to watch. Jia Perkins and Plenette Pierson had incredible games in the Detroit/Chicago game. Former Tech asst. Redding was on the bench coaching as well. Nice to see them all doing so well. smile.gif
