It was a pretty good game. Too bad Gonzaga BLEW a 15 point lead in the first half. Geez Louise. More lack of defense late in the 2nd half when it counts and a few mistakes, and Nevada walks away the winner. First time in 6 years the Zags have lost 3 in a row. sad.gif

Looking forward to tonights matchup with Virginia. Their coach is very, very leery of playing Gonzaga at this moment, because he is keenly aware they have lost 3 in a row. Zags and Few have been riather quiet this past week. But its clear in their comments after the Nevada loss, they don't like losing. Here's hoping they can turn things around tonight! Go Zags!!!

This Gonzaga losing streak is now kind of concerning. Four straight losses? Wow. When I saw the halftime score (Virginia leading 60-26), I almost fell out of my chair. Was this the Zags last game before WCC play starts? I really think Gonzaga will be pushed by both San Diego and Santa Clara in the league this year... though I still think the Zags are going to get an at-large NCAA bid even if they don't win the league tourney.

Seemed like everything UVa threw up there went in. They were hitting from all over the floor. That being said, Gonzaga doesn't seem to be playing any defense at all....They keep this up, and it'll be the NIT for them...
hockeyTom
You got it. Lots of finger pointing and grumbling going on here in Zagland. I think Few way way way overcommitted this team and its travel schedule this year. Its nice to play all these tough teams, but if you don't compete, whats the point. That was humiliation last night, is what that was. Embarassing to say the least! mad.gif
WSU Cougars
I think the Gonzaga is just a bit tired and needs some days of rest. They'll march through the WCC but Santa Clara, LMU, and Pepperdine could provide some challenges.
hockeyTom
It should be interesting this afternoon from the MAC, when the Zags open WCC play. Both teams enter on a losing streak. But, Gonzaga is going for its 46th straight home court win today......longest in the nation. Lets Go Zags!
WSU Cougars
Micah Downs will be back soon too which will be key.
hockeyTom
Nice easy win for Gonzaga which was JUST what the doctor ordered yesterday. smile.gif
WSU Cougars
We love easy wins! Lots of easy wins will happen in Pac-10 play.
hockeyTom
Meanwhile, Pepperdine is in town tonight. Should be an interesting matchup as the Waves are described as run n' gun........
WSU Cougars
I remember when Pepperdine had teams in the NCAA tournament. I'm sure they'll be a challenge for Gonzaga. But all the WCC teams get up for Gonzaga.
hockeyTom
46 in a row on home court now for Gonzaga. Nobody can touch that. Woo-Hoo. laugh.gif
hockeyTom
Victim number 49 here last night was San Diego. With the win Gonzaga retains sole posession of first in the WCC. Woo-Hoo!!! Bouldin and Pargo were huge!

It'll be interesting to see how the Zags fare as we welcome them to Palo Alto tomorrow night. It's quite an exciting time for the Stanford guys, with the Lopez twins really coming into their own, but you have to believe that Gonzaga will be hungry to get a high-profile win. For once, the Zags need this one more than the Cardinal! And allow me to put in a good word for my boys the Santa Clara Broncos, from the underappreciated WCC -- lots of size on the inside, a resurgence of 3-point shooting ... and many of our readers would find them seriously easy on the eyes.
hockeyTom
It really will, as the Zags take to the road yet again. So far they have loogged an estimated 18,000 miles this season, and continue to add to it. Few knows this will be a big test. It should be a great game!
hockeyTom
Well after a HORRIBLE start, which has come to be kind of typical for my Zags, it took 2 overtimes, but we come away with a rather impressive 90-86 win.over Stanford..Thank you Jeremy Pargo!!!! This should be a needed confidence booster.
WSU Cougars
I'm not use to see Gonzaga have 2 regular season losses. LMU deserved to be the Zags last night.
hockeyTom
Neither am I, but keep in mind, the Zags are a young team this season, but the amount of turnovers they have committed in the past two games is just astonishing. Thank goodness even with so many they got that win against Pepperdine. But, if we win the next two at home, and the odds are good we will, we will be right back in the drivers seat. laugh.gif

Well the Zags found a way to beat St. Marys' last night, did so, and keep the nations longest home court win streak alive at 50 wins in a row. What a gut check win this was giving the controversy swirling around Heytvelt and Davis. At the half, it was tied, and you could tell the days news definitely had an effect on them, but each one of them stepped it up in the 2nd half, and after the game Coach Few he said he couldn't recall a time when he has been more proud of a team. According to a story in the local paper, we will now wait to see what punishment Heytvelt and Davis receive. They are already suspended indefinitely from the team, and will most likely have to have some form of counseling. The school has a very strict drug policy....will post more details when I know them. Way to go Zags.!!!!! Nice win last night guys.
hockeyTom
Its the battle for first as the Santa Clara Broncos come to town. I guess the Broncos are really big as in tall, and its not gonna be easy as the Zags are still dealing with the fallout fromt he Heytvelt/Davis debacle, and we are still waiting news re: the punishment/fines if any............big game tonight at the Kennel as 50 straight home court wins are on the line. Lets Go Zags!!!!
hockeyTom
The nations longest home court win streak is toast at 50 games. Last night beofre I went to bed, I had a gut feeling that it would end, as the Santa Clara Broncos gain first place in the WCC by beating my Gonzaga Zig-Zags. Feeling a fair amount of anger this morning over what happened with Heytvelt. It feels magnified from where it was Saturday morning right after the incident. This happened at such a critical time. Based on how the Zags opened the game, its quite clear this has really affected the team. sad.gif But I can't take away anything from Santa Clara who played really well and took full advantage of a somewhat crippled Bulldogs team.

Kudos to SC in a way. I didn't really care for Danny Pariseau and his little antics but I know he really wanted to be Gonzaga cuz he never got that done while at Eastern Washington. Oh well..Zags will still go dancing.

that in my opinion remains to be seen.....currently we are in 2nd place in the WCC with 3 games remaining. Gonzaga has a big game with Memphis at the Spokane Arena soon, which should be very interesting to say the least. Yeah we have knocked off North Carolina and Texas but, nothing is in writing at this point. Meanwhile the Heytvelt/Davis incident remains front and center in Spokane.

The timing couldn't have been worse for the Zags with one of the toughest WCC opponents coming into town. But on a good note, my Cougars now have the longest home court winning streak. Until I just jinxed it. wink.gif

Memphis comes to town on Saturday. Big test for the Zags...it might be possible that if we lose the WCC crown, and win against Memphis and win the WCC Tournament, we can go dancing, but there are some hurdles in the way first. Cougs are playing brilliantly. smile.gif
WSU Cougars
oh Gonzaga will they make the big dance this year!
FutuLion
Gonzaga definitely isn't a shoe-in for the tourney this year. If the Zag don't gain the WCC auto-bid they could be NIT bound. It's vital they win out and don't drop one to USF or San Diego.

I'm glad that the lions were able to steal a win against the zags pre-Shroomgate.

We'll have a real uphill battle in the WCC tourney.

Go Lions!
Cougar Fan
How many years in a row have the Bulldogs made the tourney?
FutuLion
8 consecutive appearance streak
WSU Cougars
Zags had a nice win over San Francisco today.
FutuLion
They also pulled into a 1st place tie with Santa Clara due to the Loyola Marymount upseting the broncos tonight.

Go Lions!

As it currently stands, Gonzaga has an RPI of 70 which is not good .. but wins over Top 50 teams in Stanford, Texas and of course UNC. Where is the WCC tourney being held this year? When was the last time Gonzaga didn't win the conference tourney?
FutuLion
Not sure, can try to find out.

The big news is that Santa Clara was also beat by Pepperdine tonight. That causes Gonzaga to capture the #1 seed in the conference and take home the conference champ title alone. The broncos seem to have lost the wind out of their sails.
WSU Cougars
Let's see if Gonzaga can win another WCC. Will they have the services of Heytvelt in Portland?
