Actor Peter Boyle, best known for playing Ray's father on Everybody Loves Raymond and for playing Frankenstein in one of my all time favorite movies Young Frankenstein, has died at the age of 71.

Good night, funny man!

Holy crap! That's sad news. I loved him in Young Frankenstein. Just getting around to watching Raymond reruns recently.

His acting was very abby normal.

Dr. Frankenstein: H's got a rotten brain. It's rotten, I tell ya. Rotten!
Monster: Raaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Igor: Ixnay on the ottenray.

I loved him. He was stellar on Raymond. My all time favorite moment is when Frank & Marie return the engraved toaster that Ray & Debra give them for Christmas and then go to the store to desperately get it back. Frank tells Marie that he will do the talking. Marie then responds by saying that she can speak, she has a mind and opinions of her own, and that she's not just some trophy wife.

Frank: "Trophy wife? What contest in Hell did I win?"

HA HA HA HA HA HA. His comedic timing was great. Of course, it was also nice when they'd soften him up and give you glimpses at how much Frank really loved Marie or his family ...

The last couple of years, he hasn't looked so good. Even the last few years on the show. He will definitely be missed.

To be technical, Boyle played Frankenstein's monster, Gene Wilder played Dr. Frankenstein, the next generation (okay, Young, but you get the point).

Truly sad news.

Here is a clip from "Young Frankenstein."

Perfect sentiment. Somewhere the 2 of them have a lot of people laughing right now.

And probably with Gilda center stage.

He will be missed.

Sad news. He was perfect on "Raymond" and it's too bad he never won an Emmy for that role. They always seemed to give it to Brad Garrett.

I do seem to remember a really good guest appearance on the X-Files though. I think he won an Emmy for that.

In addition to being a terrific actor, he was also a very cool guy. Did a lot of antiwar stuff in the early '70s. How many people can say John Lennon was the best man at their wedding? The movie that gained him national attention was Joe in 1970, in which he played a right-wing construction worker who went on a hippie-killing spree. When he found out that some conservative audiences were actually applauding the scenes where he kills longhaired kids, he vowed not to play violent roles -- he turned down The French Connection as a result. (For which Gene Hackman was eternally grateful!)
