Wow this could be a first that one actress (Helen Mirren) could win two awards for portraying two different queens. tongue.gif

I can see her on the phone with her agent. Get me more Queen Scripts. How about Queen Victoria, or Queen Rania of Jordan...or even Freddy Mercury! Dairy Queen? Sure...just get me more Queen scripts!

And to see Chiwetel Ejiofor nominated twice. I loved Kinky Boots and he's the only reason the movie worked but I'm very surprised at the nomination. I didn't see the Tsunami thing.

I haven't see Ryan Gosling's performance in "Half Nelson" but it's supposed to be amazing and I really like him as an actor. Maybe by not getting nominated here it will get him some positive press at oscar voting time.

I was hoping for some nominations to Nip/Tuck.....am I the only one who thinks the show has superb acting and directing?

Helen Mirren was AMAZING as Queen Elizabeth in "The Queen". When I saw her performance I said she's gonna win the Oscar. I mean her portrayal was so good it was scary. The movie itself is in my top 5 for 2006. Just a fantastic film.

One of my favorite nominations -- aside from all the Dreamgirls noms -- was Bobby for Best Picture (Drama). As I wrote in another thread, I saw Bobby last weekend and wasn't really expecting much going in. I'd seen a couple of reviews that gave it 4 stars and called it outstanding, but the majority of the reviews I read called it good and not great. Plus, it kind of hit the theatres at an odd time in early November so that's probably another reason it was overlooked.

However, the movie was, indeed, great in my opinion. Admittedly, it started a bit slow and it was a little hard to follow at the beginning with all the storylines... but it kept building and building to the dramatic finish with a gut-wrenching and incredibly moving last half hour. It was filmed beautifully and the acting was very good all the way around, especially Demi Moore, who probably could've earned a nomination with more screen time. I'm glad the film wasn't overlooked in the Best Picture category.

I also think the Aretha-Mary J. song from Bobby has a chance to beat out Listen for Best Original Song at both the GGs and the Oscars.

What, no dramas released before November are worthy? United 93 is still the best picture I've seen this year.

I'm a bit disappointed that Babel received so many nominations. I'd heard nothing but rave reviews about it going into the theatre, and I came away with a shrug. I felt the events were sensationalized, much in the way that Crash was (don't GET me started on that movie; I get too angry talking about the accolades it received). And Brad Pitt getting nominated? He didn't have very many lines and I didn't notice anything terrific about the performance!

Otherwise, I was happy to see Thank You For Smoking and Devil Wears Prada nominated; both movies were entertaining (although Devil... was much different from the book, which was of course much better). Also, Bening's performance in Running With Scissors was incredible, considering the movie was atrocious and did a tremendous disservice to the awe-inspiring book.
