I'm sure that any good photographer during any big sporting event, the World Series, the Super Bowl, the Olympics, could go to a sports bar or some other venue dispensing alcohol to pretty young things and find people pulling up their shirts, revealing their chests/breasts, touching one another.
Actually, major sporting events increase the prostitution in a city. I remember stories about the Super Bowl in New Orleans about how the demand was going to be so high, girls were coming in from accross the country to get in on the action. The Olympics constatnly battle this. I remember reading stories about both Sydney and Athens regarding the issue. At least at circuit parties, which is what gay games parties are, most people are giving it away.

jqueer, you make a good observation, and come to think of it, I've heard those stories about prostitutes having to be shipped in to fill the demands. And Lord knows they're not just catering to the athletes.

A-ha! So THAT's the problem! If we just "give it away", that means less coin being spent inside city limits, and fewer taxes collected.
Guys - do your part! Charge!

Lex...the emphasis on Gay Games 2006 will be 'sport', that will be the focus and primary reason this Gay Games will not lose money (past Gay Games lost money due to, partially, the focus on the 'parties'). The circuit parties, and other parties, will not be funded or related to Gay Games 2006. It's all about the sport for this one.
Montreal's event, on the other hand, is all about the parties, tourism and less focus on the athletes and sports.

I've posted a reply to CHIathlete's previous comments about Montreal, disputing his claim that Montreal is going to be all about parties and tourism and not sports. However I've posted my reply over in the 'Schism' thread, which seemed to be the proper thread to reply in, since this is straying from sponsorship and Kraft.

Funniest thing - notice the automatically served up Google ads that offer you a chance to, among other things, buy a single share of ... Kraft Foods.

I didn't even notice the ads. wink But I did see where they want people to write, call and e-mail the Kraft CEO, Roger Deromedi. So I wrote a short note thanking him for Kraft's support -- and since that page has an e-mail address for Mr. Fowlwell, I cc'd that proven liar.

Happy Pride to everyone.
Much to our surprise and appreciation, the Cook County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted this week on a
special resolution of support for the Gay Games, and a specific thank you to Harris Bank and Kraft Foods, the two of our 75 sponsors who have received the negative attention of the extremists. Check out the link for details about Cook County.
All levels of government in our very blue city, county and state have now specifically RE-endorsed the Gay Games in the last few weeks following the right-wing attention. A lead editorial in the Chicago Tribune, the suburban Daily Herald, and a pending letter from our city's top mainstream business group (Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce) round out the support of the Gay Games and the rebuke of the right wing fringe.
Mayor Richard M. Daley and Human Relations Commission Clarence Woods both made specifically supportive comments about Kraft Foods and Harris Bank at this past Wednesday's Mayor's Pride Reception.
LGBT Advisory Council chairwoman Laura Rissover noted this was the largest audience for a pride reception ever, and most of the applause lines were all about the Gay Games. It it seems that everyone is working on some aspect of the planning and preparation. The reception draws all of the city's top LGBT community, business, social and religious leaders and there were over a dozen politicians in attendance. Four TV crews were there, including a special crew from Q Television, here all week and all weekend for Pride.
Enjoy your weekend, everyone.

Which is why the moment I heard that Kraft was supporting the Gay Games (despite my opposition to FGG) I sent 3 execs at Kraft a "Thank You" for supporting us.
It's also that when I heard of the AFA urging people to boycott Kraft for supporting us, that I again sent the same 3 Kraft execs notice that once again, they had my support and that I would do all I could to encourage all my friends and family to buy Kraft Products!
In both cases it was very easy to do and cost nothing, except about 15 minutes of my time.

Well done to Kraft for sticking to their guns.
It helps disprove that not all of the US is becoming right-wing and intolerant.

Meanwhile, Johnson & Johnson is under fire. They ran an ad for their nighttime Tylenol in the Advocate that shows 2 shirtless men in bed. One says "My backache is keeping me awake" and the other says "My boyfriend's backache is keeping me awake". Sure less explicit than the beer commercial where the woman's breasts "look even bigger close up", but Focus on the (hetero only) Family is running a link with an advisory and asking their supporters to bombard J & J with hate mail. WEll, that's not how they say it but that's what it is. So go buy some night tylenol.

While anti-gay groups are sponsoring boycotts, a pro-gay/pro-equality group in Florida is supporting a
buycott. That is, they are encouraging people to buy things from companies that support equality.

"The AFA is now using on its website four photos taken by Outsports at the 2002 Gay Games in Sydney to show what 'offensive acts' take place there."
So when are you going to sue the bastards for the use of your images???....
Even if you filed in Small Claims in the State of California that would be - what $5k for your website + a hell of a lot of publicity + a court order for them to stop (and if they then want to defy a CA State Court order, well then...).

A kiss is offensive?
Good, then, stop straight weddings with their "kiss the bride". Why don't they ever say "kiss the groom"?

Have you seen this article on agapepress.org?
Walgreen's Plan It actually says the reason Walgreen's contributed $ for the gay games is because "homosexual encounters will take place by the thousands, in bars, public parks, and shopping mall restrooms" causing gay peple to become sick and need medicine from Walgreen's. I never cease to be amazed how low "christian" groups will go to demonize gay people. I sent the editor an email expressing my opinion of this article. He/her address is 'editor@agapepress.org'.

Joe in Philly,
I found a link to egapepress on goodasyou.org. It's a blod. Maybe you should read sometime.
Jim,
I read the article on outsports. What it didn't address was that agapepress printed their assertion that Walgreen's actually supported the games to get gays sick so they would need more hiv medication. The article here was more about the pictures and etc which is a concern for outsports.

Yes but demonizing big business for their ulterior motives is a common tool that is not only used by "christian" groups.
While I think the idea that Walgreens is supporting the gay games to get gays sick so they will by drugs at Walgreens is absolutely ludicrious, they are supporting the gay games just because it is the right thing to do. They are a business and they are using this as a marketing tool.
What impresses me is that Walgreens and other business know that this could alienate some customers but have made the business decision that this is still beneficial to them.

A wrestler, whose photo was used on an antigay site to bash the Gay Games, wrote the site and demanded his pic be removed. It was taken down almost immediately. Read
the letter he sent to them. Scroll down in the story for it.
