I don't have a link, but both CBS News and CNN News have broken in with the announcement that the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, has passed away at the age of 73. CNN had on their website that he was in the hospital in Atlanta, but perhaps their webmaster has yet to update the information. Rest in peace, James Brown. Your gift from God made many people very happy.

You beat me to it, MB. I just heard this on the radio news. May James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, find peace now. He will be greatly missed!

And on the day before the release of Dreamgirls. The character James 'Thunderbird' Early played by Eddie Murphy is loosely based on Brown. Hopefully the performance will introduce him to a wider audience and another generation.

OMG! My brother-in-law & I were just listening to his greatest hits cd 2 nights ago. As a music lover he is certainly up there w/ the greats. To quote India.Arie, "This is in remeberance of our ancestors..."

Very, very sad, an amazing, visionary singer. Funk, R&B, hip hop, a generation of rock musicians, all bore his influence. And he spoke out for racial equality as well. A tremendous loss.
