I'm spending the first week of 2007 sick as the proverbial dog
I caught a cold over the weekend. I spend my New Year's Eve hacking up parts of my lungs.
My question is whether you starve a cold and feed a fever or feed a cold or starve a fever?
I hope it's feed a cold because I bought enough soup yesterday to feed an army. The store was also having a sale on pudding.

As I recall the old wives' tale, it goes, "Feed a cold, starve a fever."

Well, I'm not a doctor, but I work with a lot of medical professionals - you feed EVERYTHING. That is, if you're sick and have an appetite, eat. If you're sick and don't have an appetite, force yourself to eat.

I think the soup is what will help the best.I guess when you have a fever broth might be preferred to soup as long as you keep hydrated.Either way,get well soon.

Vick's Vapor Rub. Three words that mean relief when you have a cold. The only bad thing is no one wants to sleep with you when you slather this stuff on your chest. It will be worth it, though. Here's to a speedy recovery!

Feed a cold, starve a fever. Plus, I am convinced that one cannot gain weight when one is sick, even though I have never seen any kind of proof to back this up.

My kickass homemade chili will cure ANYthing! No, it's not overly spicy, but it IS damn good! Original Louisiana Hot Sauce is what does the trick.

When I'm sick, I inhale food. Particularly good for you in recovery are apricots, bananas and orange juice.

I do the exact same thing. I'm eating a lot when I'm sick.

Alright, it looks like I have to feed my cold now.

I despise being sick, and a cold is just nasty business to cure.

I am cute but 30 pounds overweight right now so if I start walking, I should be able to burn most of it off by the time I get to Illinois

Pretty interesting topic for me to write my first post about....
But, it's starve a fever and feed a cold.
To remember it easily, just keep in mind the biological reasoning...
When you have a fever, your body temp rises (of course).....the proteins in your stomach and intestines, which help digest your food, can only stay in their particular twisted patterns and function, at a certain temperature. Once your body temp rises too much, the proteins become denatured, unravel and can no longer function as they should. So, you vomit. Which means, don't eat when your body temperature is high.
Yup. I'm a technology/science dork AND I love sports...

I like to feed a cold, feed a fever, feed a skin rash, feed a hernia...
