Every since I saw Kiefer in a movie call "Eye for an Eye" I have such a difficult time watching him.He played such an evil bastard in that movie. ohmy.gif

We need a 24 countdown clock or something. Just over 7 days and counting! After last season, though, I worry that they won't be able to maintain such high intensity like they did. I sure hope it's a good season 6!
hockeyTom
Hope at least some of you caught the cast of "24" on Larry King last night. They had pretty much all the key/big players on. Covered just about any and all aspects of the show. Sounds like not only is it a huge hit here, but overseas as well. Kieffer mentioned S. Korea, and Japan, and South America. They also mentioned that they think a "24" movie would fly, and that they are thinking about it. The shows contract runs out at the end of this year, but it is expected to be renewed! Whew!

which has been out for a week, leaked on the net. And I was bad and already saw it, just incase watching TV is the furthest thing from my mind after the game today.
Crew Chief
Bad? I sure didn't think it was "bad." It's a different start, that's for sure, but it's only the start. More to come, and as usual, I'm out of breath after watching this show.
WhatWouldChrissieDo
I'm out of breath too. I swear that those 2 hours felt like about 20 minutes.

Definitely a slower build than last year's jaw-dropping opening episode, but they are setting us up for some heavy drama with a good cast of characters (some new, some old) and lots of action.

It took me the whole 2 hours to figure out where I'd seen that kid who lives across the street from the bad guy with the package: It was Jack's son from "Will and Grace". Right?

Most touching moment: Chloe cried!
Bryan
It took me awhile as well, but yes, that was Jack's son from Will and Grace only now with longer hair and rather sensitive. His friend across the street has an unfortunate habit of acting all his scenes with very wide eyes...! Even when there's no bomb in his backpack.

After episode one, I thought we were going to be subjected to two hours of torture Jack but smartly they got him moving. They were good, a worthy start, but I was surprised at how meek Wayne Palmer seems...as if he's not stronger as President only less sure of himself. It could be the actor, I don't know. I like Regina King who plays his sister and I have the feeling that there's lots of story coming from that character. I really liked Chloe's lover better this episode than ever before. Eric Balfour always looks good...

Peter MacNichol is obviously the bad guy within the administration...hopefully he and Karen Hayes will do battle royal.

Can't wait for tomorrow night. Hopefully I won't be tired from staying up and watching Serena's first round tonight...

Just read a review of tonights episode, and it said the last 10 minutes of tonights installment, CHANGES EVERYTHING! How is that for something to look forward to???

Yeah, instead of the big shock coming in the first 10 minutes of the 2-day premiere, they're saving it for the last 10 minutes.
Crew Chief
Oh my. The nuke actually detonated. And Jack had to kill his colleague and friend, Curtis.

This show certainly doesn't hesitate to do the unbelievable or unexpected, does it?
calguysd
The first four hours were amazing. Hope they can keep the pace up.
Marc
Wow! Even though I was stunned by Jack having to kill Curtis, under the circumstances it did not stretch the credibility of the show. I vaguely remember Morris and Miles being introduced last season (when Homeland Security took over CTU, I think) but was puzzled by the tension between the two, although it now seems evident that Chloe had been involved with both of them and chose Morris over Miles.

Bad guy Hasan Numair (who detonated the bomb last night) is played by Shaun Majumder, a regular on the popular Canadian comedy-satire show "This Hour Has 22 Minutes". Last week on CBC, there was a humourous exchange between Majumder and fellow Canuck Keifer Sutherland. Majumder was trying to convince Sutherland to let him play a role on '24', going as far as to boast that his talents as an actor on 'This Hour Has 22 Minutes' should be enough to let them split the difference and re-name Sutherland's show to '23'. Needless to say, Sutherland wasn't impressed. I guess we can assume that Majumder/Numair was killed in the nuclear blast, but given the surprise twists on the show, maybe that's a dangerous assumption!

The really cool thing about this show as far as I am concerned is how it puts out the possibilities, like an African American President. Could it possibly be in the future of the US? I for one, certainly hope so! smile.gif
Bryan
After all the mugging, the glaring looks Curtis kept giving Assad, I wanted someone to kill him. God, that was annoying just to have Curtis give this dirty looks for an hour or two....Shocked though of course that they killed a lead character on the first show but hey, that's how it works. And yes, the mushroom cloud was devastating and shocking. Too bad Peter MacNichol's character couldn't have been closer to it! smile.gif

My sense is that however much I love 24, it's the beginning of the end creatively. Part of the joy, the hook of the series is that Jack saves the day. Clearly, the day has been ruined. And nothing will be less interesting than to have Jack spend several episodes saying 'I just can't do this anymore.'

Clearly, we need Jean Smart back, and Miles on a nude beach.

It's Milo, no Miles. Milo was a character back in Season 1, while IIRC, Chloe didn't come onto CTU until season 3. The whole Morris/Milo stuff had me confuzzled til I saw that clip.

24: the hour after
George Twins fan
Ok that guy being Jack's brother is one of those "Jump the Shark" moments. Disappointing season so far.

Worst moment so far from last week with Milo, Morris and Chloe where Chloe explains how she dated Milo but chose Morris. Ugh! Double douche chill!

Oh God and now the brother's wife had a thing for Jack? Who wants to bet their kid could end up being Jack's? He sure looked more like Jack than like Graham! Is this 24 or Dynasty?
Crew Chief
But do you remember, George, where we've seen Jack's brother before?

I'm still wondering just where in all this that cabal of "board members" from last season fits in. There were something like a half-dozen of them, and Jack's brother seemed to be the hed honcho or something.
George Twins fan
I remember. I think it just makes it all the more preposterous. There are just too many interpersonal connections. CHloe is dating Morris and has dated Milo. Jack's brother is involved soemhow and Jack had a prior hinted-at relationship with his sister-in-law. And I have a sneaky feeling they are at least trying to make us think that Jack's blond Nordic-looking nephew may be his son. Bill and Karen are married. The current President is the brother of the late President. The President's sister is a lawyer for a Muslim group and her boyfriend (the head of said organization) is now being held by the FBI and spying on suspected terrorists. It's all a bit too convoluted at the moment.
orsino4
What? 24 convoluted?

Who would have thought!
George Twins fan
Well of course the plots are always a bit convoluted in that'suspend disbelief" kind of way. But so far this year (and we're only 5 hours in) there has been much more of the personal stuff than we've had in previous seasons. And we've still got Jack's dad to meet. We can only hope they don't bring Kim back!

I agree with you, George. I've been growing mildly annoyed by some of what I believe is preposterous storylines. Sure, it's television and entertainment and all, but this show lately has been approaching the "Aw, come on already" or "that's way out there" feeling.
hockeyTom
Damn, if Jack doesn't have a heart attack soon, I will be surprised. The torture scene with his brother was INTENSE! And what, nest week, another 2 hour episode. WE are really getting our moneys worth out of this season so far!!
Bryan
I'm glad the brother's dead, he was terribly annoying. Of course we knew that the father would turn out to be Mr. Baddie, that much was obvious. The question is just how bad is he going to get...James Cromwell seems more suited to good guy roles but he's a strong actor no matter what. The brother's wife is rather useless so far but we'll see. Does anyone else want to see Karen Hayes put a bullet between Peter MacNichol's brow?

In order to have the show end in May sweeps (the Monday before Memorial Day) they have to do a 2 hr show sometime in the season.
hockeyTom
Heads up for a 2 hour show tonight people. smile.gif
George Twins fan
Okay so we now know Jack's daddy is a bad guy. But I've got a couple of real problems with how it played out.

Why did they go through the entire charade of pretending they were going to execute Jack and his father? the point was to kill Jack. Why was his father along for the ride, handcuffed, etc.?

And why was Gray still hooked up to the IV when dad was allowed to have some alone time with him? ANd then fact that they even allowed this was just ridiculous.

This season is really testing me so far. I guess because last season was so great I'm just a bit disappointed so far. I'm still willing to go with it but there have just been a few too many "Oh come on!" moments so far.
HryMscLNyc
I am a fan of the show but have been noticing that Jack's character only talks in an incredibly annoying 'whisper/bad-ass' voice LOL> I haven't noticed quite as much until the episode last night....DAMN speak up man! smile.gif Also...would Morris really just freakin program the nuke device....come on guys....ya gotta know the baddies are gonna put a cap in your ass no matter what so why not go out as a hero..especially when you know the good guys have surrounded the building....wierd....
hockeyTom
Damn! I just finished the last half and am now caught up. Holy moly, this was quite the 2 hour extravaganza......... smile.gif

How funny, bringing back Logan on Prez Day
George Twins fan
This show is just becoming too predictable. I knew that the Chad Lowe character was going to be right outside the door when Lennox went to leave the utility room. I knew Jack was going to blow away the baddies as they were about to kill Milo. I knew Jack's dad was going to be gone after Jack's "apology".

And while I'm glad to see Loagn back, shouldn't he still be in jail? I hope there is some sort of plausible explanation.

How funny would it have been if Marilyn had, in a panic, blown Josh away as he came running in the doorway! He at least that would have been somethiing I couldn't have predicted!
George Twins fan
Ugh! This show is just getting so predictable. It's especially disappointing in that last season was it's best and this season ranks right down there with the worst.
Marc
But George, I think even you'll agree that Martha's attempt to kill Charles wasn't predictable! Great to see the former First Lady back in the show.

One thing I find mildly annoying about '24' is that one of the countries supposedly involved in the nuclear attacks is not identified. It's obviously supposed to be a Muslim country, but they always awkwardly refer to it as "that country" or when speaking to the ambassador, it's always "your country". Why not come right out and say Pakistan, Iran, Syria or whatever...are the producers afraid of provoking a real-life 'international incident'? I find this to be quite inconsistent, as they seem to have no problem naming Russia (or at least certain Russians) as being equally responsible for the attacks.

BTW, can someone tell me why that new pompous jerk (played by Rick Schroeder) assaulted Morris? When re-playing the tape, the picture froze up and there was no audio for about 30 seconds, so I don't know what Morris said or did to deserve that treatment. Incidentally, the actor who plays Morris is Carlos Rota, is also busy on a great new comedy called Little Mosque on the Prairie . But it's a Canadian production on CBC, so I doubt if many Americans are able to see it.
George Twins fan
Well I knew Martha was going to do something to Charles. And the way the camera made sure to show a close up of her handling a knife like 3 times, I knew she was going to at least TRY to plunge it into her ex.

As for what Morris said, I don't remember exactly but it was something flip, which is another thing I have tired of. The country is under attack and these CTU people are busy being smart asses.

That said, this week's show was a bit better than the last couple so maybe they're moving in the right direction.
Boltergeist
South Park does '24'
George Twins fan
The South park episode was hilarious. Way more entertaining than anything 24 has done this season. The past couple of weeks have just been so mind bogglingly ridiculous. If this was season 1 I would have bailed on this show already.
CycloneMatt
We've actually stopped watching. It seems like they're just recycling ideas from the last few seasons and throw in some "shocking" scenes every now and then. Can't say it's 'jumped the shark,' but it's certainly in the water. wink.gif
