Just when you think you've heard it all, this one is really bizarre. USC place kicker Mario Danelo, son of former NFL kicker Joe Danelo was found dead at the bottom of a cliff in California.

Did he fall off the cliff? Or was he thrown off? Why would anyone want to kill a kicker? Did someone lose a bet because of a kick or a missed kick?

Here's the brief story:

I'm sure we'll here more details in the next few days, but wow. That's very sad news.

Lord...always jumpin to go to the morbid stuff lol. Perhaps he just stumbled and fell off and it was a tragic accident. USC won the game. I mean who knows..like was said...we'll know more about it in the coming days

This was a tragic turn of events for the Southern Cal team, after the big win earlier this week.
USC Kicker Mario Danelo Found Dead In San Pedro

My heart goes out to his family and friends at a horrific time like this. As this story is developing, nothing much can be inferred yet, whether it was murder or suicide or accidental.

Pretty sad news.

Well after that backup punter at Northern Colorado stabbed the starter, anything is possible. But it is more likely that the poor kid lost his footing. Truly tragic for the Danelo family and the USC football family.

A couple of days ago, the #1 in David Letterman's top 10 "Signs You're Watching Too Much College Football" was:

In bed, your wife says, "Get a Trojan" -- you come back with USC Kicker Mario Danelo

So weird that of all of the Trojans players this is the one he picked and then this happens.

And now we have the full story. USC kicker Mario Danelo was drunk, according to the coroner's results. How very sad! At least the family now knows how this accident happened and that it wasn't suicide.

Well its still unknown whether it was an accident or suicide. Finding out that he was intoxicated doesn't mean he still couldn't have jumped off the cliff. Why was he so drunk? Was he upset about something? I doubt we'll ever know if he accidently fell off the cliff or if he purposely jumped off. But, him being drunk doesn't rule out suicide.

MDTerp,

I heard this on ESPN radio yesterday. Very sad case. Unless someone comes forward with any news I guess no one will know exactly what happened beyond speculation.
