If I were his bosses I'd still like to know why his water bottle has a secret compartment and why he was reportedly so reluctant to give it up. It sure isn't likely that it's to carry his keys.
mdterp01
Jan 22 2007, 08:40 PM
And what exact business is it of his "bosses" if he's carrying around bottles with secret compartments in them? Its suspicious but hardly illegal and since there was nothing to be found in the bottles as first reported its none of the Falcons business what he was doing. Sorry, this is the lawyer coming out in me. But, bottom line is that no crime was committed and you can't be convicted of having a water bottle with a secret compartment.

Even if the substance was not marijuana, the fact that they smelled it in the first place would lead most people to believe that marijuana was in it at SOME point, which would be enough to damage any rep further.

What legitimate purpose is there for a water bottle with a secret compartment? And why was he reluctant to give it to the security screeners if there wasn't pot in it? I can't help but wonder what actually WAS in it, if it wasn't pot.

Even if there was a little marijuana residue in there, that doesn't make it a security threat for airlines. And who knows what was in that secret compartment. Maybe he used it to hide prescription drugs that he was embarrased about. Or maybe it was just his cooking spices! Or maybe it was for hiding cash he didn't want people to know he had on him. New money does leave a smell. The point is, its none of my business and as long as it wasn't gunpowder or the like, I don't care.

QUOTE
Vick's publicist, Susan Bass, said it wasn't his fault. The quarterback was in Tampa, Fla., on Monday to play in teammate Warrick Dunn's charity golf tournament, then caught a flight to Atlanta that was supposed to arrive in time for him to make another flight to Washington's Reagan National Airport.
But the AirTran flight was late leaving Tampa, Vick missed his connection and wound up stuck in Atlanta, Bass said.
``He was really mad,'' she said. ``He was on the plane and everything, but the plane didn't come in until late.''
AirTran, which has an endorsement deal with Vick, gave a different account of Vick's travel arrangements. While acknowledging that the flight from Florida was late getting into Atlanta, causing him to miss his 8:35 p.m. connection, airline spokesman Tad Hutcheson said the player was booked on a 10:50 p.m. flight.
Vick failed to show and the flight left Atlanta with about 20 empty seats, Hutcheson said.

Two friends of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick are convinced he has been involved in illegal dog fighting at a home he owns in Virginia, they told SI.com on Thursday, despite Vick's denials.
"He knows what's going on in that house in Virginia," one unnamed source told SI.com. "There's not a doubt in my mind he's involved with it."
A second source, quoted by SI.com, said Vick has a longtime "affinity" for the culture surrounding dog fighting.

Add Clinton Portis to the mental midget list. I don't have the exact quote but he basically siad that whatever went on in Vick's house is nobody's business but Vick's and that if he wants to fight dogs, he should be allowed to fight dogs. What a douchebag!

Quotes from the article at ESPN.com:
QUOTE
"I don't know if he was fighting dogs or not, but it's his property, it's his dog," Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis told WAVY-TV in Virginia. "If that's what he wants to do, do it. I think people should mind their business."
When told that dog fighting is a felony, Portis replied, "It can't be too bad of a crime."
----------
"You want to hunt down Mike Vick over fighting some dogs?," Portis told the television station. "I think people should mind their own business."
Portis said that dog fighting is more common than people think.
"I know a lot of back roads that have the dog fighting if you want to go see it," he said.
Later in the day on Monday, Portis tried to back down from his comments, issuing a statement that was posted on the Redskins' Web site.
"In the recent interview I gave concerning dog fighting, I want to make it clear I do not take part in dog fighting or condone dog fighting in any manner."
Idiot.

I hope this is THE nail that seals the coffin for Michael Vick. As a HUGE dog lover (I mean I would do more for my dogs than I would do for members of my family), I cried when I heard about how the dogs were executed by wetting the dog down and electrocuting them and burying the dogs alive and drowning them, the rape stand that was used to hold female dogs down for breeding, etc, etc. It was absolutely sick and heart wrenching, and made me absolutely furious when I read the 18 page indictment. I just know that there are so many dog fighting rings that are going on across this country and its just terrible thinking about how many other dogs are going through this as I'm typing this right now; how many dogs are laying with terrible wounds from dog fights right now and are suffering. Its just so terrible. This thing is fueled by the hip hop industry which glorifies dogfighting. Its so prevalant and glorified in the inner city areas that there are programs now that tell these kids that this stuff is not cool. Where have we gone wrong as human beings? This is BARBARIC!! How can you torture a defenseless animal this way?
The times I drive through "the hood" in areas like Philly and Baltimore, almost every dog I see is a Pitbull. Its ridiculous and I hope the judge throws the BOOK at his f**king son of a bitch ass!! UGH!!! The details of this case have just ENFURIATED me to no end. I am really upset about this and the only silver lining about this is that the high publicity of this case can hopefully result in a more stern crackdown of this shit. I mean I knew this stuff went on, but after watching Nancy Grace tonight...I had no idea about the underground magazines and stuff. He was always a prick to me but now if I saw him on the street I'd want to set some dogs on his ass and let them tear him apart.

Too bad Harrington's "pretty looks" won't help in giving the Falcons a winning season. But, I suppose if there has to be an alternative, you want one that is at least decent to look at.
So, Mike pleads Not Guilty to the charges against him. Not surprising. His lawyer, Billy Martin is a very good and accomplished attorney so the prosecution better have their i's dotted and t's crossed. They seem to be relaying that they have a very strong case against them, and they better. Otherwise, Martin will make them look like idiots. I have a feeling though that all of Martin's talents won't save Vick from this one. There is already speculation of someone making a deal to cooperate with the prosecution, and its his property that this was taking place. I'm not sure that he'll go to jail but I expect a heavy fine. He should go to jail though if he's guilty, which I believe he is.

i know that this is going to taint my humanitarian pro-peace, blah blah standing on the boards but
can someone really explain to me why dog fighting is so bad? i grew up with dogs - german shepherds
to be exact - and i would never fight my dog, but i knew people that did when i was growing up and it
was just something that happened. it happens in russia all the time and there is a new league. i don't
encourage fighting and i personally wouldn't do it, but at the same time i just want to get other people's
thoughts. my neighbor dog used to harrass my dog starlight when she was a puppy and one day when she was older i let starlight out to go to the bathroom i went into the garage and had a feeling she was getting into a fight. she had kicked the neighbor dog's a* because it ran down into our yard and i came outside and yelled at her to stop. i told her she was bad as my neighbor watched but once we got in the house i patted her chest and told her she did good. and she wagged her tail because she had stood up to a bully. i know that may sound bad but it was just a natural feeling. um...yeah...anyhoo, thoughts..

I think the problem with animal fighting of any kind is the animals are not doing it for sport. It is a fight to the death not competition. When you couple the animal's instinctual brain with the barbaric brain of some humans you end up with the atrocities described in the federal indictment against Michael Vick. If animals were able to comprehend the nature of good hearted competition, complete with rules and safety equipment, then I could begin to understand someone considering their fighting a sport. Until then it is the equivalent of boxing with no protection and weapons supplied to the combatants. By domesticating animals we have a responsiblilty to care for them in the most humane ways possible, not take advantage of our alleged intellectual superiority.
