How in the world could they think that was funny? Utterly appalling.

[Edited to Add]

I just noticed it was from 5 years ago. I wonder how they are doing now. Hopefully they've learned something.

But why is this in the College Football thread? Nothing sporting about it.
theodoresdaddy
well the Clemson (I think it was Clemson) party scandal was more recent

Disgusting! Wow! People thought this was funny?

This has little to do with college football except I guess that it was at a fraternity party. But I love how you twist their bad taste into once again slamming the SEC. I guess NO ONE ever makes any bad jokes or racial slurs in Big East and NEVER anyone from West Virginia!!!!!!!!!! It's funny but it seems you post more topics and comments about SEC then any other member including those from SEC schools.
theodoresdaddy
I think he also slams the ACC equally

Calm down Skippy.

Im an equal opportunity basher. LOL!

Couple points... You would certainly not see this type of behavior at WVU. It would not be tolerated- Period. WVU ad paticularly Morgantown is a pretty prrogressive overall. It simply wouldn't happen.

The reason I mentioned the SEC is pretty simple.

1) Auburn students were the culprits in this paticular issue.

2) The Same thing happnened at a South Carolina frat party 2-3 years ago that made news.

3) While I was a student at the University of Tennessee, a fraternity did the same thing. However, their fraternity was shut down as a result.

These acts seem to be a SEC thing. I understand perfectly its a minority that does these actions, but it seems like many who thrown sterotypes at certain schools and programs don't like it when their dirty laundry is exposed.
theodoresdaddy
I thought I was the only one who called people Skippy!

LOL

I don't know if this is an SEC thing or just a southern thing...
There still seems to be people in the south that think this type of thing is totally acceptable.
While it isn't as bad as that, we still have homes in my neighborhood here that proudly fly the Stars and Bars....

Its limits are neither SEC nor Southern.....a quick search on the internet and you can find racially motivated incidents at UCLA, Texas A&M, Johns Hopkins, Univ. Of Cincinnati, Dartmouth, Syracuse, MIT, and Harvard, as well as schools such as Clemson, Mississippi and Auburn.

And though I'm not defending the practice.....was there much of an uproar 2 years ago when the Wayans brothers released a movie called "White Chicks"--where they put on whiteface and parodied white sorrority girls?? Isn't it a bit of a double-standard when we condemn white guys for dressing up in blackface, but two black guys dress up in whiteface and make $70 million off the laughs?

WOW, I can't even believe you would compare the comedy Movie "White Chicks" to fraternities emulating hangings of African Americans during from the early 1900's until the Civil Right's movements by the KKK and other hate organzations.

White Chicks is a comedy movie that had a happy and good endng that is fictional who's purpose was to make people laugh. . The other is disguisting reality of life for African AMericans where tens of thousands were beaten, tortured, terrorized, and murdered thoughout the South.

Only a clown would make an idiotic analogy that would compare the two.

Calm down Drama Queen.

I didn't make any analogy involving lynchings, hangings, or torture from the early 1900s. I was only comparing wearing blackface to wearing whiteface and the double standard that often goes along with that. I'm not making any inferences as to the reasons behind it. Read my comments above and you'll see that.

You're more goofy than I originally thought. Ever thought about joining a circus so you could fit in?

Recently, a fraternity party at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore had a similar party where they had their guests in black face, simulated a lynching, and had signs up about how Baltimore is the Black HIV capital in the country. Its just appalling.

What I'd like to know about the Auburn students is how they had the audacity to be wearing Omega Psi Phi t-shirts. Omega Psi Phi is a historically black fraternity and it is sacrilegious to wear any paraphernalia of a fraternity in which you don't belong. I bet Omega Psi Phi fraternity members were looking to kick some of their ignorant asses after seeing those photos. Thats extreme disrespect. Oh but racism isn't that much of an issue anymore, right? rolleyes.gif Meanwhile, after each of these parties, a spokesperson comes out with some shallow apology basically saying "we didn't mean to offend anyone" and "we're so sorry if we offended anyone" and blah blah blah. How anyone could be comfortable posing in black face with a noose around their neck is too disgusting for words. They are going to hell in a jet plane with gasoline underwear on.

Its a sad party of reality MdTerp. These little fraternity priveledged boys from the SEC still practice underlying racism. They will show up and cheer for athletes on game days, yet pull stunts like this when in the safe surroundings of their own houses and own kind. This example is just another example of how racism is alive and well in America. THese kids are products of parens who exhibited racism openly where their kids practice it in "the good ole boy" approach.

Very sad........
