Full Version: Pretty Boys?

Not sure if this has been brought up before....

In Pittsburgh over the weekend, listening to postgame of the WVU-UCLA basketball on the radio, one of the WVU players was discussing about his teams play against Pitt (where they lost) the previous outing and he referred to his team as playing like a bunch of "pretty boys".

He's not talking like Joey Porter and using any inappropriate language. He is using an expression. Do you guys think that's a knock to us? I don't often get offended but it's interesting hearing that, cause it almost sounds like it. A pretty boy doesn't necessarily have to be gay or straight but there's often the stereotype.

How's it goin' Ultimate? .... I don't think "pretty boy" is necessarily the equivalent of gay. There were guys in my high school who we used to call that and they were not gay; they were kind of like "metrosexuals' --guys who spent a lot of time primping and who wore ultra-fashionable clothes. To me "gay" and "pretty boy" are not synonymous. So, if the coach was just trying to say that his team played like they were affraid to mess up their hair, or wrinkle their clothes, or something like that, it might be okay....

Well as a well-documented pretty boy I'm thoroughly offended. Just because we're pretty doesn't mean we can't play basketball effectively. He should have said they played like cavemen or something! Not cool!

Even if a pretty boy is straight, they still get the tricks of the trade on how to look good from us.

Ironic that i brought that up on the board this evening, as my Pitt Panthers didn't just looked pretty, they looked 'fabulous' in losing at home to Louisville by double-digit points and never really showing muscle.
