At school, there's a big brouhaha going on between the teachers' union and the administration over the alleged use of keylogging software installed on the computers in the buildings. All our computers are networked, and we can all access the Internet on most computers. In the teachers' lounge, only the Intranet can be accessed.
Even though we can access the Internet on the computers we all have in our classrooms and can access our private Email as well as our school Email, we cannot access blogs, forums, retail sites (for example, Amazon.com), auction (ebay, Ubid, etc.) sites, message boards--none of this--on ANY computer in the building. (Outsports.com comes up blocked under the category of "provocative attire."
All these types of web sites have been blocked for the last three or four years at least. Even anonymizing or proxy sites to try and get people to such banned sites can't be accessed (we've caught kids trying this all the time, which is why even those "workaround" sites can't be accessed).
Because our ability to use the Internet for years has been and is severely restricted, the union believes there's no reason to install Keylogging software on the system, that it's an invasion of privacy.
Granted, a school isn't the same as a typical business or company, but I was wondering if anyone here has such restrictions or keylogging software installed on their work computers.
