Not the best Valentine's Day thats for sure. The boyfriend and I had dinner reservations but they called and said that they were closed because of the ice storm. So.....now we're just gonna have a quiet evening at home. But, Happy Valentine's Day everyone

I decided a few years ago that I enjoy cooking @ home on Valentines 4 my bf & I rather than going out...So tonight we're having prime rib, jumbo shrimp, asparagus, baked potatoes (w/ the fixings), sour dough bread, wine, & a lil dessert. It's much more

I can't top it (I'm sitting in the library rather than waiting for a flight), but I too am totally single with no immediate (or even future) prospects. I've been miserable on V-Day before, so I'm used to it. This year's no different -work sucks, romance is nonexistent and it's snowing.
Oh, well: At least my Jayhawks are playing CU tonight. That's sure to cheer me up!
If we must have Valentine's Day (and I suppose we must; otherwise, the florists would suffer), why can't we have Singles' Day to make the loveless feel better?

When I went out for lunch I was a little sad and then I passed by the local Papyrus (Card Store) and there was a checkout line that snaked out the door and into the street. And every guy in line looked like they were being punished for something. It made me feel a little better about being single.

I'm not depressed at all. Not one bit! Although I've had this Carpenters song in my head all day...
I'll say goodbye to love
No one ever cared if I should live or die
Time and time again the chance for love has passed me by
And all I know about love is how to live without it
I just can't seem to find it.
So I've made my mind up I must live my life alone
And though it's not the easy way
I guess I've always known.......
I'd say goodbye to love.
There are no tomorrows for this heart of mine
Surely time will lose these bitter memories
And I'll find that there is someone to believe in
And to live for something I could live for.
All the years of useless searching
Have finally reached an end
Loneliness and empty days will be my only friend
From this day love is forgotten
I'll go on as best I can.
What lies in the future is a mystery to us all
No one can predict the wheel of fortune as it falls
There may come a time when I will see that I've been wrong
But for now this is my song.
And it's goodbye to love
I'll say goodbye to love.

My boyfriend is Mexican. When we first starting going out and Valentine's Day rolled around, I noticed that he and his amigas all wished me a
feliz dia del amor y la amistad, which is a happy day of love and friendship. I think that sentiment is far more lovely than the sort of narrow, cupid-focused Valentine's Day of the United States. Being surrounded by people who care - from family to friends to lovers - and taking small appreciation of that is a nice way to celebrate Valentine's Day in my book. My novio prepared a very intensive dinner for me last night; I brought him flowers and a shadow box picture frame that I filled with momentos of our three years together; I called my mother; I sent e-cards to my friends; and that was that.
What I do remember about the years I was single is that Valentine's always seemed more monumental to me than to the people who were in relationships or had dates. I would beat myself up over it. But then, the next day, it all seemed like a lot of fuss over nothing. So, to anyone who was single this year and feeling blue, the sun has risen on February 15th. Happy Day After Valentine's Day!

I admit I was a little more pessimistic than usual yesterday, hence my gloomy contribution to this thread. Most of the time I'm OK with my singleness, but it just struck me with greater force than usual yesterday. (I think I'd even be OK with Valentine's Day if people didn't make such a big deal out of it.) As it happens, I watched KU trounce CU last night and had a nice dinner with a couple of beers at home, so it turned out to be an OK night.
I still think a Singles' Day, with some of the trappings of Valentine's Day for single folks, is a great idea. Why should lovers have all the fun?

I picked up an order of extra hot buffalo wings on my way home last night along with a really cute teddy bear I had bought for the hubby. We had a great time chowing down on the wings, celery and carrots and then later relaxed in front of the TV set and vegged out. It was awesome.

I know, I know, I'm late on this subject. But working nights and weekends gives me little time to respond in a timely manner.
I too had a wonderful Valentines Day. A sweet, quiet and romantic evening along with my left hand. And, like many times in the past, my right hand got jealous. They got into a major fight. Of course, I was stuck in the middle, again. But once they made up and we all were in sync, we had a wonderful time.
And for those who need to use two hands to have a special evening. My question is: which one controls the DVD remote?

Happy Valentine's Day weekend to all.
The bf & I usually stay home on V-Day & I cook my usual surf & turf. Well this year my hubby surprised me w/ a prize he won @ his job's X-Mas party. It's a $120 gift certificate to
The Bistro Garden, a romantic restaurant down the street from our home. It's actually a cute story cuz he had won another prize & one of the lawyers he works w/ had won the Bistro prize. He went up to his co-worker & asked if he could trade w/ him cuz he wanted to take me to the restaurant as a surprise. He was hesitant @ 1st cuz his wife wanted the gift cert too. He then cleverly turned to his wife & said, "Honey, we can go to The Bistro Garden anytime we want. Besides he really wants to take Ray." In short, my bf doesn't make nowhere near the salary that he does so...She caved.
I can't wait...Yummy! Chocolate Souffle.

We went to the spa yesterday and each got mani-pedi, massage and facials. After that we went out to a favorite restaurant in Little Italy and then home. We were just snuggling up on the couch when there was a knock at the door. I went to answer and it was a couple of Mormon Missionaries, I said not interested and was closing the door when one stepped closer and attempted to put his hand on the door. Kind of lost it, said look we're gay & married and your church doesnt like us or acknowledge our marriage so shove off. I then called the concierge downstairs to complain before joining hubby back on the couch for some Valentines lovin.
Found out this morning that the concierge called security & tracked them down and removed them from the building. He said one of the other residents brought them in as guests and then allowed them to go knocking on doors. That resident has been advised he is in violation of the building rules so hopefully no more holy rollers.

Om My God, swiminbuff, your story reminded me of a great aunt who answered the door bell to find two Jehovah's Witnesses at it. Blessing herself, she proceeded to throw holy water on them, before slamming the door shut. To this day, I cannot understand why she had holy water in such easy reach!!

Yipes! I've got two vials of holy water in my fridge...our church gives them out Easter Sunday. Does it work against Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses? I had two separate groups of Jehovah's Witnesses come to my house last week alone! I try being polite, but that doesn't seem to help...it seems to encourage them.

Had a great night. Made ribs and pork tenderloin stuff up the ying yang with garlic. The ribs, the meat just fell off of the bone. Movies at home, then a, well, I think it was a 4-5 hour romp and then bed.
Parents gave the house to me for the weekend. Clean up clothing this morning was most amusing. I somehow found my red trunks strewn across a stair landing pole grip. Must have done something on the stairs, can't remember.

I'm not sure what makes Vday different than any other day of the year. If you are in a relationship you should surprise your lover with nice things or be nice to them regardless. If you are single, well, you're still single. I really like my own company so my day spent playing music and rearranging my house was time well spent I think. I repotted some plants too. I haven't had a real boyfriend in 3 years. It seems like my friends, especially girlfriends, are much more stressed about this than I am, because I "want kids and a partner"; true but all
you can do is live your life. And I'd much rather be alone than with a cheater or sociopath. Not commenting on anyone on this site, just observations from my world.
Maybe if I can convince Joe in Philly to pull together another Outsports Convention we can all date one another. Oh wait... what about an Outsports dating link a la match.com? I'm much better at match making so if you guys email what you like in a guy and your own personal qualities I can forward the info to Cyd & Jim and get the ball rolling.

Eh, that's quite true, Jay. It's another brilliant scheme by corporate America, however, it's up to you or any guy out there to, err, umm, mix it up for some snazzy stuff. <-- Sounds creepy.
Personally, I know the date I started seeing the person I'm with. Although we were friends in the beginning. I never knew he was gay and I was absolutely unsure of myself. Up till March last year, I always dated girls and had sex with them, enjoyed everything but a lot of things were left unfilled. No pun intended.
Something just felt missing, after drowning out my sorrow in alcohol at a party and having to be driven home by friends I spent a very long time thinking about my past and whatnot.
V-Day was never too special for me, but I just owed it for someone who's put up with my changing mood and my rants.
Don't know what I've got in plan for next month.

Mine actually wasn't that bad...
Disregarding the fact that this is the 24th consecutive valentines day I spent alone -ok well there was Maggie in 4th grade, but for obvious reasons that was never really going to work out- this was fairly good. I ran my first 18 mile training piece for the marathon I'm going to do in may in 2:10. Then got all you can eat Sushi, watched a movie and had a couple pints with friends. Also I am going into the first reading break I will have ever spent not at a training camp where I have to row three times a day and am fairly on top of all classes.
