That's a toughie because I find basketball terribly dull but forced to choose, I would go with dunk. Especially when it draws a foul.

Men's game? A 3 pointer in a clutch play, especially if they had to work to get open.
Women's game? I LOVE seeing Candace Parker dunk. Love it.

Or if they hit one of the insane shots from around 30 feet. Dee Brown was good at doing that back in 04-05. A three from that distance can et the crowd more fired up than a dunk.

Its a tough call. It depends.
High School Basketball:
I would say the Dunk is more effective because its a more rare occurence than college or the NBA. A dunk usually ignites a team.
College Basketball:
A 3-point shot is considered more exciting especially one from 25 feet at a crucial time.
NBA:
I would say both are just as important. Some of those Michael Jordan dunks back in the 90's in the 4th quarter in close games would absolutely paralize the opposing teams.
Personally, I never dunk a basketball ( my hands couldn't palm a basketball) at 6'0 even though I could easily dunk a volleyball. I get more excited when guards shoot from 20 feet and beyond

And it's basically Rich McBride's forte now and I have to say that everyone gets amazingly fired up when he (or any other player) hits one.
But, the dunk is still a big game changer, especially on the alley oop.

Bump, Set, Dunk?
Well now that I am thinking. What about if someone jumped from beyond the three point line and dunked the basketball?
3 points? or implement it as 4 points?
If only my hands could palm a basketball.

Teen Wolf did it but I think that he did it before the 3-point line was implemented so I think he only got 2 for it. But it was totally gnarly!

3 pointer......gosh, speaking of long threes I can still remember that 40 footer that Vermont put up against Syracuse in a 1st round NCAA game a couple years ago to effectively finish the Orange....

I find the 3 point shot a lot more exciting. On the flip side, a 3 point shot made by the opponent can really deflate a crowd.
