"Environmental Ruling Fallout

April 4, 2007, 4:44 pm
By Nick Bunkley, NYT

Nearly every executive at the auto show has been asked how their company could be affected by this week’s Supreme Court ruling directing the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate carbon dioxide as a pollutant.

General Motors’ vice chairman, Robert A. Lutz, today said he does not know yet whether the decision is good or bad for G.M., but he said reducing vehicles’ tailpipe emissions is not as easy or cheap as environmentalists contend. He did, however, remind reporters that carbon dioxide is not produced exclusively by the automakers and their vehicles.

“All of us standing here right now — anybody who exhales is polluting like mad,” Mr… Lutz said. “If we have CO2 limits, I think we should all contribute, and we’re all going to have to train ourselves to breathe fewer times per minute.” ..."

Proves you don't have to be terribly bright, pr conscious, or politically savvy to pull down $1M a year.

Quick, somebody please get Mr Lutz a muzzle, er... I mean mask.

GM needs more help than I could have ever imagined. With a klutz like Lutz at the helm, the once largest auto maker in the world is doomed. So what is his answer...have everyone walk around with a potted palm to absorb the CO2 emissions? Hey Sparky, why don't you work on getting a hybrid to market, you know, like Toyota and Honda have ALREADY done?
