With the release of the nbc tapes and transcripts of Cho Seung-Hui are we seeing a new evolution in potential terror threats?

We have associated previous acts of terror with foreign (WTC bombing) or domestic (Oklahoma) radicals. But Mr. Cho was born in a nation we invaded decades ago, for reasons that are largely irrelevant now - and he apparently still holds, albeit partially subconsciously, a hatred for a society that he did not fully understand and and felt he could not fully integrate into, while feeling isolated from the one he was born into.

It makes one wonder what we will be seeing 40, 30 or even 10 years from now as Iraqi refugees are further dispersed around the world. The culture into which they are born is even more alien to ours than the one into which Cho was born. For now we have allowed only heavily screened and monitored Iraq immigrants.

And the gun control that we have attempted to impose upon a foreign culture in Iraq has largely failed because we are outsiders - invaders more different from them than the Greeks and Romans were from their conquests. But we can make gun control work in our own neighborhoods if we see the light soon enough.

The Greeks and Romans married into their conquered societies and integrated them, often by force of rape. But still their empires failed - for the usual reasons of greed and insensitivity IMO. What will be the destiny of our own? Will we elect a leader who can see the span of history and be wise enough to find a better path?
