Former Russian president Boris Yeltsin has died at the age of 76. I believe that Yeltsin's legacy is an extremely bad one. Organized crime continues to thrive in Russia and unemployment is at a staggering level. Boris Yeltsin suffered from uncontrollable alcoholism and had severe liver damage.

One of my favorite moments was when he just had this funny response to something at a press conference and Bill Clinton could not stop laughing... really my only true memory of Boris.

I saw several clips of that yesterday. Clinton was so tickled. Boris Yeltsin was a highly intelligent person. Its sad how the bottle destroyed his mental health.

He was a mess but also one of the most important figures, alongside Gorbachev, in Russia's transformation from the Soviet Union to the quasi-democracy that it is today. My favorite Yeltsin moment was that dance he did, on stage, during his reelection bid. He was obviously not physically well, and possibly very drunk, but he did a Blues Brother-style shimmy that was unforgettable. RIP!
