Attention all Bay Area Outsporters!!!!
A friend and I will be visiting SF the weekend of 10/30. Would anyone be interested in getting together that Sunday for a day of Football/Drinking? It would be great to put the facelifts with the Screennames.... eek! I mean faces... wink Also, names will be dropped, stories will be told, gossip will be exchanged, pictures will be taken, and fun will be had by all.
So who is up for this, and where is a good place to see the games and have some beer?!?!

I'm giving this a bump up as some people may not have seen this on Friday or over the weekend.
Anyone interested in getting together??

When/where did you have in mind? SF doesn't have a gay sports bar (despite what you may have read here), but I'd be up for any suggestions you have.
Don't forget the "early" game on Sunday is at 10am here. Breakfast, maybe?

RGMike & Maddog, thanks for the replies. Anytime that Sunday would work. And beer with breakfast at 10am.... well it's Noon somewhere right!
Seriously though, I don't care where we end up as long as it has the games on. The NYC gathering last weekend was at a straight bar anyway, so it wouldn't be that different. This will be my first time in SF, so I really don't know what the options are for location. My only need is proximity to public transit as I will not be driving that weekend.

Being new to SF myself I went out last night to find a Monday Night Football Crowd. I heard that the Mix was sports-oriented so went there first. They had the Yanks-Angels on 5 screens and the football game on two. It was happy hour so the bar was packed but only maybe 6 people were watching baseball and I was the only one watching Big Ben. At half time I circumnavigated the Castro because it seemed to be the day for it...(did Columbus ever circumnavigate anything?) and really didn't find anything else Sporty.
And I found out that the Mix opens at 6:00AM everyday so it'll be open Sunday @ 10:00Am for Football. I say let's meet there and if it sucks we can explore and worse comes to worse all walk back to my place and watch the games there...lol. I've got a 52incher... Look forward to meeting you.

Sounds like a promising place. What's the address? And helping to open the place at 6:00AM might be a little difficult for my jetlagged body, but 10:00 ish could work. wink

Are you planning on doing Halloween in the Castro as well BP?
I'm working on a Benji Roethlisberger uniform since he'll hopefully be playing that night against the Ravens (how ap-pri-POE!) I've already got the Jersey and the pads so if he's not playing I'll just ice my knee and limp or something. Let me know if you wanna get a group together for that as well.
I've never tried the Pisner Inn but I'll be happy to try it out...this bar-testing is becoming quite fun...lol.

I just got a great deal on a full game worn Cal uniform with number 69 (Matt Melele) so I'll be suiting up in Blue and Gold on Halloween instead. (Besides Navy Blue really brings out my eyes)

I watched both division games and the sharks/jackets game at The Pilsner Inn last night and I have to agree with T-Daddy, this would be a good place to meet on Sunday. They open at 10:00 am and Mike the Sunday morning Beertender loves to chat you up on just about any sport. Let me know what you guys think. Pilsner Inn address is 225 Church St. near 14th and Market.

Pilsner Inn sounds good to me Maddog. How's the food? I need something with my beer otherwise I'll get stupid like PF's comments.
As far as Halloween costuming goes, I'm not quite sure what the deal will be there. We might go sans costume just to observe the festivities. Or my friend might take the toilet paper from the hotel and mummify himself for all I know. eek! I've got a couple of costumes around from years past, so I'll have to see which one looks like it will be easiest to pack.
RGMike, T-daddy, does are you guys in for that Sunday 10/30, at the Pilnser? Anyone else in SF interested in joining us?? C'mon, I'll even tell scary stories like:
The Night I Married PhillyFan!!!! (-- sound of thunder rumbling in the distance, horses neighing --)

I hope you've hired a writer to embellish the story. I mean, "boy meets boy, boy gets drunk with boy, boy wakes up in bed with boy and screams in horror, boy runs off to airport in tears while other boy, still drunk, chases him yelling 'wait, T.O, I didn't get your autograph!'" gets kind of old after a while.

Well Joe, it's soooooooo obvious how I could have gotten them confused. Both PF and TO have that brilliant smile, that lithe chiseled frame that makes you think you're in the Renaissance and everyone should be painting, and of course, who would could forget to mention an enourmous.... EGO!
But enough of this silliness! Is anyone else in SF wishing to come to our event?? (BPT bats his puppy dog eyes to all)

Maddog, thanks for running with the ball on this one. I've been busy as hell with work the past few days and haven't had a chance to bump this thread up.
Obviously I'm in (as well as my friend) so there are two at least coming.
Kenny, you are more than welcome even if you will have to leave early to catch your game. But leave that Cadillac at home.

We're meeting up at Pilsner Inn: address is 225 Church St. near 14th and Market (if I copied that correctly).
Gotta get back to work now.... frown

A gathering of Outsporters here?! Why didn't I see this thread earlier?
I've got a 10:30 obligation, but I can put in a cameo appearance.
One cautionary note I'd like to add about Halloween in the Castro... Saturday, the 29th is the night for gays to strut their stuff in the Castro. The 31st has become a nightmare -- lots (250,000+) of bridge & tunnel drunk straight people. We, locals, avoid it like the plague.

Thanks for the info Pusch!
If that's the case and since I paid out the yang for this game used football uniform, I guess I'll just wear it for three straight days/nights...wear it Saturday night, get some lovin in it, sleep in it, get up and make cinnamon rolls in it, get drunk and watch football sunday in it, get some lovin in it, go to sleep in it, go to work in it then go out and tackle drunken straight people in the Castro in it Monday night.

Ramada on Mkt. is just OK - nothing great, but decent value and close to BART and MUNI and the SoMa bars. Ask for a room on the top floor, back from Market or 8th St., and you'll be OK.

I stayed at the Ramada on Market St. last year. It's ok, but not great. It's in an older building and the rooms and bathrooms seemed rather small. Like gmg mentioned, it's convenient to public transportation.

It's VERY convenient to public transit as an entrance to the Civic Center BART and Muni Metro station is right at its front door.
If you stay there, you'll want to take Muni Metro (underground streeetcars) the K, L or M line "outbound" to Church Street Station. The Pilsner Inn is about 100 feet from the south entrance to that station.
Regarding that Ramada Inn, it servers as the host hotel for the International Bear Rendezvous every February, if that's any recommendation.

Well, I am literally in SF a total of about 66 hours with only set in stone plans of the game. Sat night will probably consist of roaming the streets. Sunday morning at Pilsner and who knows after the game what trouble I will find! wink I am really looking forward to some cooler temps as well.

LMAO! ...bridge & tunnel drunk straight people. I agree, and I couldn't have said it better. Lots of straight people out to cause trouble. Not worth it.
I've never watched a game at Pilsner, but the Mix in the Castro is a great venue to see the game. Nice atmospere and friendly people, and if you get bored, you don't have far to stumble onto another bar.

Bumpty Bump.
Spent yesterday at the Pilsner Inn and it wasn't very crowded on a Sunday Morning which is good because we can control which games we wanna watch. They have the direct tv thingy so we can watch any game. Mike the bartender is a cutie loves talking sports although I found out he's straight. (Which isn't a bad thing just puts a cramp on my fantasies)
I also bought homemade greeting cards from a 79 year-old artist named Shirley. She'll talk your ear off. She's promised to bring more next Sunday so you all have that to look forward to as well! (I go all out when hosting an event...lol)
They open at 10AM so I'm going to try to get there as close to opening as possible. Guess it just depends how Saturday Night goes...
Seeya Sunday!

What time is the the Rugby thing? I have to get my hairs cut tonight (both of em) but that's the only plans I have.
When I was looking for an apartment a tall Irish rugger named Hugh interviewed me as a roommate. But as I was coming in for the interview, there was a beautiul boy coming out and when I didn't get a call back I figured he took the cutie over me.
Hugh was a hottie. Wouldn't mind buying him a drink if he's there. wink
