The hockey team is VERY organized. If I knew how to ice skate...

The softball team(s) seem pretty organized, too. The guys I met on the team are very nice, and I think the team(s) travel a fair amount during the summer, too.

I helped revive the football league, but got really busy with grad school. I'm not sure who is in charge of it now, but I think they're playing in Brooklyn. They may be on break until the fall.

The is a Boards, Balls, and Blades (or something sounding like that...) event in the fall each year to raise awareness of the various gay athletic teams. I know there is soccer and tennis, and think there are gay volleyball, rugby, and basketball teams, too. And water polo, if memory serves me correctly.

I was going to join Sundance but just never did. No reason, really. I did go on their walking tour of the Botan. Gardens in the Bronx. AMAZING exhibits. I was impressed they picked it as a trip. I found everyone with whom I communicated in Sundance to be responsive and helpful. Some of the other teams haven't been good about getting back to me...

Good luck! There is a lot out there...

Check out Urban Outings too ... it's not strictly sports, but it seems to have enough variety to include what you're talking about. (Chicago doesn't have anything like it that I know of.)

I found out about it on a recent, too-brief business trip (trade show at Javits), where I also saw a listing (in the New England gay weekly, which was at the same trade show) of gay sports groups in New England (mostly Boston area) ... way more than I expected. I was impressed. smile.gif

I play in the Gotham Volleyball League. If you are a new player or expreienced we have levels for everyone.

I do believe in the next two months there will be an event called the Sports Ball.

It is a great night where you get to go around, meeting all the different gay sports organizations, get pamphlets and there is usually a bar and dancing. Last time I went it was held at Webster Hall.

Not sure of the exact date but when I know I will post it.

I currently play in the softball league. We were to start last weekend but got rained out! sad.gif We're scheduled for this weekend. New people can still join. Email or PM me if you're interested and I'll try to get you some info.

Gotham Volleyball was also fun. Not as friendly as softball, IMO, but still fun. Bowled for one year. I made some good friends, but the season is a bit too long for my taste. Also met some really nice people through Metropolitan Tennis Group, though I'm not involved anymore.

I've heard good things about the Sundance group, though have no personal experience.

The tennis group is called MTG and our website is www.metrotennisgroup.com.

You can email the organizers of the Balls Boards and Blades events (you just missed one last night) at bbbsportsparty@aol.com. The organizer of those events is also very active in the hockey group and with a group he's started called Out Of Bounds, which is kind of an umbrella organization for gay local sports. His name is Jeff and he'd probably have information on alot of the various gay sporting groups in NYC -- I'm sure he could point you in the right direction.

So, get out there and join in the fun! biggrin.gif
