Single and Looking?

The your chances of finding a mate may be determined by which side of the Mississippi you live on according to the US Census Bureau. Apparently there are more single men in the West, and more single women in the East according to a recent article in the National Geographic.

A Few or the places where Men most outnumber Women are :

Los Angeles - Long Beach - Santa Anna (Largest male plurality: 40,000+ more single men than women)
Dallas - FT Worth
Austin
Houston
Denver
Seattle
San Francisco - Oakland
San Jose
Las Vegas
Phoenix

While Woman most outnumber Men in :

NY-NJ-CT urban area (Largest Female plurality: 185,000 more single women than men)
Boston
Baltimore
Washington, DC
Chicago
Detroit
St Louis
Memphis
New Orleans
Miami

Area's with more single women are thought to exist because of their predominance in colleges and the white collar labor force, while area's with more men are because of huge numbers of illegal immigrants working either in agriculture or booming construction sectors.

It's funny - looking at the demographic map it took me a moment to catch on that a lot of the mid size dots (the area's just below the top 10) for women were big college/university towns, while the mid size dots for men were mostly around large military bases or high tech centers.

Significantly, I expected to see at least a small predominance of men in some of the major 'gay' enclaves; but almost all the eastern ones showed a predominance of women (Ogunquit - P'town - Rehoboth - Key West, etc).

Some I was stumped - why were there more Men than Women in Palm Beach; Naples, FL; or Winston-Salem, NC- and why were there more Women than Men in Cleveland, El Paso, Albuquerque, and Santa Fe?

Now given that the largest male plurality was only af around 40,000+, and that gays are approx 5% of the population, that is still ~2000 extra gay guys out there in LA - Long Beach somewhere.

Not true.In many ways I am very lucky. In fact sometimes I even feel lucky that there isn't a man in my life, believe it or not. smile.gif

It's hard to find a man when one lives in the sticks, surrounded by a few rednecks. It's also hard because I'm not what people would call a stereotypical gay man. I don't frequent gay bars. I don't dress "gay". I don't speak "gayly". I don't flaunt my sexuality. I attract lots of women. Some girl friends even say they had crushes on me before I came out. But it's guys like myself that i'm attracted to and they're hard to find.

Well then you should be happy that you live in the state with the second largest plurality of men; in addition to the three metro areas mentioned above there is also Galveston,Beaumont,Orange,Bryan-College Station, Freeport, Williamson, and Longview. Actually, living in Eastern Texas you have it a lot better than if you lived S or W of Austin. Be grateful you don't live in El Paso or in NM, AR, MS, AL, GA, or TN.

I suppose you could move to Alaska: the highest ratio of men to women among all states; or maybe Paradise, Nev., an unincorporated suburb of Las Vegas. This is one of the highest ratios of any place with 100,000 or more people. Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Tempe, Ariz.; and Sunnyvale and Santa Ana, Calif., follow.
All have large surpluses of men to women.
