Full Version: Paul Wolfowitz vs. The World

Paul Wolfowitz, the neocon who was the point man for the Iraq "strategery", is now embroiled in a controversy at the World Bank.

================================

Quoting directly from the Yahoo! story:

"In a last pitch to explain his actions in the agreement he directed for World Bank Middle East expert Shaha Riza, which sparked controversy in the bank, World Bank President Wolfowitz promised to make changes to his management style to regain the trust of bank staff.

" 'I respectfully submit, to criticize my actions or to find them as a basis for a loss of confidence would be grossly unfair and would be contrary to the evidence we have presented to you,' Wolfowitz said in a statement to the board distributed by his lawyers."

================================

Yes, Wolfie has dug himself a big hole and is trying to keep everyone from throwing the dirt on him. I, on the other hand, am just giddy as a schoolgirl at the thought of him being fired and embarassed publicly. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Paul Wolfowitz shoud be fired from his position. He should never have been hired in the first place. He and his fellow neocons were rabid about invading Iraq. Paul Wolfowitz has continued to bring shame on the U.S. as head of the world bank. Its time that he was retired into private life.

Wolfie refuses to slink away quietly into the night over the deception to promote his significant other at the World bank. The board has largely given him a way to skulk away with a shred of dignity intact. Unfortunately, he refuses to take the easy way out.

I am sick of this story. He blamed his girlfriend yesteday for thsi problem because no one wanted to deal with her and he had to move her. WHATEVER! Mr. Wolfowitz needs to resign with some dignity - not that he's shown any - and go hang out on a beach.

This story has the 'smell factor' going all the way.

Wolfowitz is a jerk. He is a lousy manager because he has no management style except to be domineering. I think he is autocratic, conceited, arrogant, and doctrinaire; and everyone who I have ever met that has actually worked for/with him confirms that opinion. But then look who appointed him!

Wolfowitz doctrine for the initial version of the Defense Planning Guidance Report for the 1994-99 fiscal years when he was Undersecretary of Defense for Policy with his deputy Scooter Libby should have warned everyone

The document was incredibly imperialist as it outlined a policy of unilateralism and pre-emptive military action to suppress potential threats from other nations and prevent any other nation from rising to superpower status. Due to public outcry the document was hastily re-written under the close supervision of U.S. Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney before being officially released. Although the initial release was denounced at the time it was leaked many of its tenets have since re-emerged in Shrub's policy and doctrine.

Wolfowitz was a protégé of Albert Wohlstetter, the father of hard-line conservative strategic thinking at the University of Chicago.

He is a totally unqualified political wonk who never had a job in the real world - and certainly never a position in international finance before Bush appointed him to the World Bank.

Like all of Shrubs appointees, he wasn't appointed because he showed any skill or brilliance, he got there because he was a knee jerk conservative and loyal to the Shrub.

It is only a matter of time before he goes, and then the US will not be able to appoint his successor this round.

Let's Make a Deal.

Heard on NPR that that deal could involve a year's salary and some, to get rid of him - nearly half a million dollars. Some would be happy to see him take it and go. Others think he doesn't deserve it after the damage he's already done to the Bank.

The Europeans (the biggest bloc of contributors) will be the deciders and they are almost united against him.

What was done in Iraq during his tenure was abominable, and an early indicator of how he approaches developing nations' economies.

I don't care if the "Commander Guy" throws a tantrum from Portland, Maine to San Diego, California, Paul Wolfowitz has GOT TO GO, and he shouldn't collect a DIME from the World Bank or be exonerated in the least. He is a scumbag, pure and simple. How dare he lecture countries on their scandalous, corrupt behavior when he was engaging in his own!? Yes, I know it's the Republican way, but still! On top of which, there's some question as to whether this good neocon liar is still married to his wife OR married to his "girlfriend" Shaha Riza. And she's getting paid from World Bank funds even though she's now at State. It's just such a mess, but the arrogant, hubris-ridden, comb-licking Wolfowitz thought he could do no wrong. Yet another loyal "Bushie" who's had to face reality, though it's taken far too long.

Wolfowitz will stay as long as possible. The Bush administration are a stubborn lot who will fight to keep Wolfowitz at the World bank and Gonzalez as Attorney general. Wolfowitz always seemed to hate middle eastern Arabic people and wanted the U.S. to wage a war against Islam. I was surprised that he is shacking up with an Arabic Muslim woman.

And he's gone. He's resigning the World Bank effective June 30. Too bad the SOB didn't get fired.
UCLAfan
Elemental and Elrond, we would have been much better off if Wolfie were fired. We missed out on the humiliation and public closure his firing would've provided. rolleyes.gif

About as surprising as minister Ted Haggard getting a massage from a gay escort.

Didn't the first president George Bush once refer to his grandchildren by Jeb's Latina wife as the "little brown ones"? But then PC is sooo yesterday after Imus.

Wolfowitz doesn't necessarily respect Arabs because he's screwing one, outside of marriage BTW - something that would get him no props among most Muslims or conservative Christians.

Though Rudy Giuliani might consider the OM thing a recommendation for future consideration as, say, embassador to...France? rolleyes.gif

I agree with UCLAFAN that the bastard Wolfowitz should have been fired. Why he was allowed to take the position in the first place escapes me. GOOD RIDDANCE THAT HE'S GONE.

It seems former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young cares little about your mangerial style as long as your money is green.

He defends Wolfowitz, blames the Dutch and confuses everyone else.

Perhaps he is right. Perhaps Wolfowitz was a great World Bank president.

I would think they could find someone less inclined to preach one thing and practice another.
