Ah, a trip to Hickory Park Restaurant is a MUST when visiting Ames.
Also, contact CycloneMatt....he lives in Ames. :-)
Des Moines is about a 1/2 hour south, if you get bored in Ames.

Activities in Iowa? Isn't that an oxymoron? Good luck with that. I'd suggest making sure you have your laptop, Ipod, and lots of lube to pass the time. Seriously though...I'm sure there is something to do there. Go to one of those websites where you can check out the goings on in each town for the month. Perhaps something interesting will be going on.

Reminds me of when we left here to go visit straight friends who had moved from here to Iowa City...
My partner tells me, "I've always wanted to go to Iowa." I had to tell him, "Listen, if there was anything to do there, we would have already gone there."
We did have a good time, tho....It was a football weekend, so there was lots of stuff going on in town....
Needless to say, our friends moved back to Miami....
We were the only people who visited them during their 3 years there...including family!

If you get bored in Ames, it's only a 1/2 hour drive to Des Moines???
Yeah, that's a really selling point.

How did they end up in Ames for you to have to go there to visit them in the first place?
And MiamiSpartan, about your sig: the Bears are the
2006 NFC Champions even if the title game was played in 2007. The 2007 season hasn't begun yet.

How did I ever miss this thread before? And after reading some of these posts, I'm almost sorry I found it. Anyway Ung already has been in contact with me about stuff to do. But a big, hearty "thanks" for all those who chipped in to say what a great town Ames is, no doubt without ever having been here.
Ames is a wonderful town. It's beautiful, the people are friendly, there is virtually no crime, the weather is actually pretty decent (but I like four seasons) and it's my home. If you're expecting more, you're not going to find it in a college town of 50,000 people in the center of a state with less than 3 million. That's just the way it is. There isn't much I would trade Ames for.

I think that would be Ames' best selling point by far! I have only passed by Iowa on the flights, and I don't think I would have the courage to try to stop there in real life. That would make you a much braver man than me, ung.

ok.. thanks guys for your input....
Some of these comments.......I think you're stepping on a few toes here ... and those toes belong to Matt.
Cheer up Matt..... Show me a few of those husky cornfed Iowa boys. Mmmmmm.... I probably like 'em better than some of these manicured girls I see on South Beach and Wilton Manors.
Anyway... to answer a question. My sister took a position with Iowa State asked my mum to move in with her family.... and Voila... "move to Bev-erleeeee"
It's Ung in Iowa. That should be interesting.... and to be honest.....I never go anywhere w/o my Laptop, Video ipod, 3-g cellphone, etc etc. We'll see what happens....
But thanks for te imput guys... and Matt. I'm looking forward to meeting ya!

Oh - Puh lease - its all in fun.

I chose to move to rural New England for heaven sake. I happen to love small town; but that doesn't mean I can't tease you about yours!
I would have thought the little emoticons might have provided a clue to humor...
Actually I have been to Iowa, and I thought it was a very pretty state.

I've never been to Ames, but I've driven through Iowa a few times, spent a few days in Des Moines and about a week in the Quad Cities on the Illinois side. (Sorry.)
I get the appeal of bucolic places, but I'm a bright lights, big city kind of guy. My problem is I go catatonic in rural settings even though I grew up out there (Kansas).

My dad did all of his post grad at Iowa State (which is in Ames), and my sister did hers at Univ of Iowa (which is in Iowa City).
So every couple of years we would go to Iowa for reunions. WHen I was about 20, we went to U of I for my sisters graduation from Medical School, and my experiance is that if there's 50k students on campus, the you can be darned sure there's an active gay community.
And as for Iowa guys, yup. Blonde, corn fed, and yummy. I had GREAT times both in Ames and Iowa City. I won't go into details, other than to say it's there if you look for it.
And yes, Iowa is a very pretty state. Way too much corn tho.

So here I am in Iowa.........
One main difference betweenhere and Miami.... No latino men.... in fct .. I hardly see any foreign people at all.... My brother-in-law says.... "there's a lot of asians here. There's a chinese couple in the next block."
Meanwhile... everyone I see looks like they're from germany. .. not that it's necessarily a bad thing. I saw a member of the ISU Swim team in the gym while I was working out at 5:30 this morning. .... Nice ASS!!!!
and there was one dude who I thought possibly could be gay at the day spa while my mother was getting a massage.... But if he was gay, he was too scared to make it known.
So far the the weather is cooooooooold up here. at 1:30 pm it was 55 degrees. That's abig dro from what I'm used to... AND! It seems I got to Iowa in the middle of Monsoon season... non stop rain ever since I got here. Not sure... But I thnk I saw Noah building that damn ark again.
Gonna meet Matt this evening and go workout with him....
Meanwhile a friend in Boca just called and said the weather's amazingly beautiful down in Miami.... Ugh!

Cael Sanderson BABY!!!!!!
Went to "Legends" restaurant. Cael Sanderson who looks just hot hot hot (NCAA wrestling champ... undefeated all 4 years of his collegiate career.. coach of ISU team) was at the next table along with his wrestling team posse.... I would have enticed him with my wiles.. unfortunately, his wife and baby were penis-blocking me. :-)
The waiters were all hot....... except our waiter. He was the only unattractive waiter... and of course he's the one that says "what would you like to have?"
I was like... "I would like to have another waiter..."
This morning it is 45 degrees... if this were Miami, the locl news team would be doing a live shot from the homeless shelters about getting people off the streets from the freezing weather. And I'm not kidding.
met Matt and his other half yesterday evening.... Interesting conversation about the bootyliciousness of Matt Harpring and Mike Alstott..... We agree that Mike Alstott probably is a bottom. I think Cael sanderson is too... although I hope and pray that he is "versatile" that would be ideal. :-)
