Which of course means if Title IX was a woman, her husband would be trading her in for a younger model.

GTF, I have seen and experienced great improvements at the high school level under Title IX. That having been said, there are also profound disappointments at the college level in athletics. Sacrificing sports to make way for other sports is something no school should be forced to do. Why can't they have it both ways? It just boggles the mind that even today we are still having such horrific setbacks for athletics all around.

As you pointed out, Title IX would be traded in for a younger model. Why not revamp Title IX for a more modern and moderate version? This would make far more sense than what is still happening, even today.

I agree. Although golf hasn't had it as bad as many other sports, teams across the country are either on the chopping block or very close to it. The University of Minnesota's team was going to be eliminated, along with women's golf and men's gymnastics -- and then they won a surprise national championship in 2002. There has to be a way to promote women's sports that doesn't involve cutting smaller men's programs.

One of the biggest sacrifices made at the altar of Title IX at the college level is wrestling. Sadly, it has been eliminated throughout the country at too many schools.

The quota link of enrollment to athletics participation is probably the most ridiculous way to deal with this that I know of. The best way is to give incentives to meet the quota but not to use it as a hardline enforcement measure.
