It has been a rainy beginning to the summer, here in Southeast Texas. Someone requested Rihanna's song "Umbrella", saying how appropriate it was for the weather.
That got me to thinking about what other good songs about rain. there was. I could come up with a few like "Singing in the Rain", Blame it on the Rain", "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head".
Do you know of any others? I bet there could be enough to make a CD out of them all.

I'm gonna love you like nobodys loved you "Come Rain or Come Shine" A classic and one of my personal favorites.
Harold Arlen / Johnny Mercer
Im gonna love you like nobodys loved you come rain or come shine
High as a mountain and deep as a river come rain or come shine
I guess when you met me it was just one of those things
But dont ever bet me cause Im gonna be true if you let me
Youre gonna love me like nobodys loved me come rain or come shine
Happy together unhappy together and wont it be fine?
Days may be cloudy or sunny
Were in or were out of the money
But Im with you always, Im with you rain or shine
Im gonna love you like nobodys loved you come rain or come shine
High as a mountain deep as a river come rain or come shine
I guess when you met me it was just one of those things
But dont ever bet me cause Im gonna be true if you let me

We already have about 40 rainy songs, more than enough for a CD, but here's a few more I thought of for you, which I don't think have been mentioned yet:
November Rain (Guns & Roses)
Rainy Day Woman (Bob Dylan)
Rainy Day People (Gordon Lightfoot)
Rainy Night in Georgia (Brook Benton)
And here's one where the word "rain" is not in the title but certainly in the lyrics:
God Save the Queen. I remember it well because we had to sing it daily in elementary school, as it was our national anthem back then. (
O Canada did not officially replace it until 1980, even though Britain had granted us independence more than a hundred years earlier). Anyway, for the purpose of context, here are the last few lines:
"Send her victorious
Happy and glorious,
Long to rain over us
God save the Queen!"

I've always liked "Songs About Rain" by Gary Allan. A song about songs about rain. Does that count?
Artist : Gary Allan
Song : Songs About Rain
Well this town has closed down way too early,
And there’s nothing to do,
So I’m driving around in circles,
And I’m thinking about you,
Today I heard you got a new last name,
Sure didn’t know it was gonna hit me this way,
And the radio just keeps on playing all these songs about rain
Now there’s all kind of songs about babies and love that goes right,
But for some unknown reason nobody wants to play them tonight,
Hey I hope it’s sunny wherever you are,
But that’s sure not the picture tonight in my car,
And it sure ain’t easing my pain all these songs like,
Rainy Night In Georgia,
and Kentucky Rain,
Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again,
Blue Eyes Crying In The early morning Rain,
They go on and on,
And there’s no two the same,
Oh it would be easy to blame all these songs about rain,
Well I thought I was over you but I guess maybe I’m not,
Cause when I let you go looks like lonely is all that I got,
Guess I’ll never know what could have been,
Sure ain’t helping this mood that I’m in,
If their gonna keep on playing me songs like,
Rainy Night In Georgia,
and Kentucky Rain,
Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again,
Blue Eyes Crying In The early morning Rain,
They go on and on,
And there’s no two the same,
Oh how I wish I could blame all these songs about rain,
All these songs about rain,
Songs about rain.......

Singing in the Rain
Here Comes that Rainy Day Feeling Again
Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head
Come Rain or Come Shine
And, just for its camp value, It's Raining on Prom Night. (Sample lyric, if I remember correctly): "It's raining rain from the skies/It's raining tears from my eyes.")
And please, don't include "MacArthur Park" in a list of the best "rain songs" I heard it for the first time on the radio a month or so ago and concluded it was one of the worst, if not THE worst, song ever written.

There's a great song by Quasi called "It's Raining" - the drummer for Quasi is Janet Weiss, also the drummer for Sleater-Kinney. The lead singer for Quasi is the guy from Built to Spill, he and Ms. Weiss were married but divorced, they still record together.
Also: "Rain Down Rain" by Holly Golightly
The White Stripes have a pretty nifty song called "Red Rain" on Get Behind Me Satan - but I think all the Stripes stuff is pretty nifty
"Who Loves the Sun" by the Velvet Underground mentions rain without ever saying the word, except the few times they actually say the word "rain," which they do - they mention showers, which implies rain. But they definitely say rain! Can anyone back me up on this? Anyone?
Has anybody said "Laughter in the Rain" by Neil Sedaka?
Also, Pavement's second album is called Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, and it's awesome. But that probably doesn't really count, I'm just being showy there.

This thread seems to have turned into a list of all kinds of rain songs - not necessarily the best. In that vein, here are two more: "Remember (Walking in the Rain)". (I don't know who originally sang it, but the a capella group The Nylons covered it sometime in the '80s.) and Delbert McClinton's "Sitting Here Watching the Rain." (I think that's the title — at any rate, it's part of the lyrics.)
And what about the nursery favorite "Rain, Rain Go Away"? (My computer won't do the smilies properly, so here's an old-fashioned :-). )

Can I come out of my room now, Eddie?

By the way, I liked Donna Summer's disco version of
MacArthur Park too, but still prefer the original by Richard Harris. He just put SO much emotion into it, almost like he was trying to be serious, but if one listens to the lyrics it's hard to take the song seriously at all!
As I'm typing this, it's pouring rain here, so I was inspired to think of a couple more oldies that have not yet been mentioned:
The Rain, the Park and Other Things by the Cowsills, who were from Rhode Island. Even for those who don't remember the song, I think most who hear it will recognize it as late '60s bubble-gum, but IMO it's still a very likeable tune. Historical note: The Cowsills were once considered for the early '70s TV show "The Partridge Family". Four of the original members are now deceased, most recently Billy Cowsill who spent his last years here in Calgary, and his brother who died in Hurricane Katrina.
Rain Dance by the Guess Who, circa 1971. A modest hit for the Winnipeg-based group led by Burton Cummings. I liked a lot of their stuff, although this one wasn't among my favourites.

Thanks for the correction!
The ones that pop immediately to mind for me:
Red Rain, Peter Gabriel
Have You Ever Seen the Rain? CCR (also Who'll Stop the Rain)
Here Comes the Rain Again, Eurythmics
Raining in Baltimore, Counting Crows
Of course, the first three songs are probably not about literal rain at all, and the last is mostly about homesickness.
Certain artists seem to use rain imagery a lot--CCR among them obviously. There's also Here Comes the Flood from Peter Gabriel. And there are tons of rain references in Eurythmics. My personal fave is at the end of The Gift.
And I can almost--I can almost hear the rain falling
Don't you know it feels so good, feels so good
So let's go out into the rain again
Just like we said we always would
