The Two Davids finale attracted big ratings up here in Canada on CTV. For the two hour finale the average rating had 3.1 million viewers watching peaking at 3.7 million at the end of the show when the winner was announced. And the right David won. Cook is the better overall performer with a much better stage presence than David A.

Next up for us north of the border Canadian Idol - which kicks off on CTV in a couple of weeks. Last year's winner up here - Brian Melo - is also a mid 20's rocker when he won - a very similar performer to David Cook - and he also beat a very young cute boyish opponent who had all the under 12 support. In fact much of this year's season of American Idol was in many ways a case of deja vous for those of us who watched Canadian Idol last year.

The last 5 minutes of this you tube link is Brian Melo's Radiohead song which was largely responsible for him eventually winning.

George Michael's performance that night made my eyes water. I don't know... maybe the song, or I felt that he is passing the torch to the winner. Him being on the big stage, looking so small--- perhaps unsure whether half of the audience know him. But it was just beautiful.

<purrrrrrrrrrrr !>

Me and my fellow kitties all voted for DC so many times. It was better than chasing string. The outcome was just purrrrfect..........

I agree that Archuleta should quit show biz for a while and do some growing up.

I know that 19 Management and Clive are going to try to wring every ounce of money out of this young man.

I just wish someone might have his best wishes at heart- although with his dad- I highly doubt that this poor kid is gonna be an emotional and physical wreck after a while.

David has a good amount of talent musically- not just vocally- would love to see him be mentored with different intruments, different vocal styles, some acting and improv and maybe even some movement studies...

I will feel so bad for this kid if all he really wants to do is be a math teacher instead of "famous".

I'm curious if anybody else noticed something that a friend brought to my attention over the weekend. On the second last week of Idol - the week Sayesha got eliminated - the 10-20 second clip 'highlights' of the three songs performed by each contestant that night, shown at the end of the show to remind viewers of the phone numbers to call - at least in the case of David Cook - were NOT from his actual performances that we had just watched.

That night I was late getting home from work so I only caught the tail end of the show in my time zone in the east - so I set my PVR (TIVO-like thing) to record the Seattle Fox Station's broadcast at 11PM ET. I was telling a friend who had not seem much of Idol this season - but did see the final week - that I thought Cook should have won - he thought Archuleta was better the last week. He was over at my place so I played him Cook's and Archuleta's songs from the week before that I had recorded to prove my point more or less as that was the week where 'Cook won the night' according to Simon.

As the show ended and they were playing the short clips of each of the three songs from each of the three contestants that night, my friend pointed out that the short clip they showed of Cook singing 'The First Time Ever I Saw your Face' sounded awful - and he didn't recall him sounding that bad in the actual performance. So we re-wound and watched that part of the song again and it was totally different in the performance compared to the so-called highlight clip. Same with the last song he performed that night - which again had a different performance on the highlight clip - where you could still see audience members - compared to the same song during the actual show. And in fact in the highlight clip he is holding the microphone still in the mike stand - whereas for those words during the actual performance, by then he had taken the mike out of the stand and was holding the stand down to his side. So there is no doubt that the highlight clips - for those two songs at least - were not from the performances we had just watched.

I'm just curious - are the highlights of practice rounds? Do they do practice rounds in front of audiences - because you could see portions of the audience during the 'highlight clips' that were not from the full performance. Anybody have any explanation?

The tech crew doesn't have enough time between the live performances and the end of the show (which in the case of the last singer of the night is just a matter of seconds), so the highlights shown with the numbers to call are from the dress rehearsal earlier in the day.

That's a pretty lame excuse. They can come up with replays instantly in sporting events, so they can do so with this show.

It is a lame excuse. During the Tuesday night show last week, Archuleta sang Image fantastic. Didn't have any voice cracks or anything. As they were replaying his songs for the "voters" the clip they showed of Imagine his voiced cracked. That wasn't his performance.

Part of what I originally liked about David Cook was that he seemed different, unique and not at all like those other Idol contestants seeking fame. I thought he was all about the music.

Now here he is already in a relationship with former Idol contestant Kim Caldwell (who has also been linked romantically to several other Idol contestants in the past), and they're hitting all the Hollywood hot-spots like Hyde and the Ivy, and he's talking about how he really wants to begin his acting career. Ugh.

And one of my favorite quotes from last night's Larry King Live with the Idol finalists was this one from Michael Johns: "Larry, if I had a body like David Hernandez, I'd strip too."

Someone who's all about the music isn't even trying out for Idol. They're out working on their craft, writing, performing, etc.

That's exactly why I haven't tried out.

Hmmmm.....I've been thinking about that. I'm not sure I agree. A creative person, be it a musician, an artist, a writer, etc. does generally create for the love of creating. But in order to create you need inspiration, and very often that inspiration comes from sharing one's creativity, from seeing the impact it has on others and how others react to it. I think there's somewhat of an infinite continuum at play, that sharing beeds creativity, which breeds more sharing, and so on. To me, it's natural that a musician or singer would seek out the greatest possible audience for their work.

He's just enjoying his new found fame with POOOH-ZEh... he just has to remember that his wood spit is just an addition to KC's collection.

Just a side note: I'm planning on auditioning for Season 8 when they come to the Meadowlands on the 19th. Keep your fingers crossed, and if anyone wants to get together while I'm up there, let me know. Thanks! biggrin.gif
