Long just a club sport, Oregon will no longer be the only PAC-10 team without a Men's Baseball program when it reinstates the popular west coast sport beginning with the 2008 season.

The Men's Baseball team had been a victim of Title IX, but with the 2008 season, this will change.

Good to hear this! smile.gif

Wish Iowa State would reinstate baseball. They cut it in 2001, a victim of Title IX. We have club baseball now, but still miss seeing the Cyclones compete in the Big XII, even if we did suck.

It's about time! The Ducks last baseball season was the 1980- 1981 season and ever since I got there in 1982, there has been talk about resurrecting the baseball program. If I recall, baseball wasn't disbanded due to Title IX but because the school (which was a "have not" back then) didn't have the finances to support baseball. The baseball field (Howe Field) was converted to a softball field in 1987 so the team will need to find somewhere to play. Civic Stadium, which is down the street, and home to Single A Eugene Emeralds is a possibility. I guess there is also talk about building a new ball park where the Ducks and Emeralds will share the field.

My guess is that the powers that be at Oregon might have gotten just a wee bit jealous of their counterpart in Corvallis. But the Beavers have to love this, they'll have a team that they can get 5 or 6 wins off of for the next few years.

Do you think Nike will design the new baseball uniforms. If they're anything like the football unis, we'll have stuff to talk about for months! laugh.gif

Translation: Title IX was the underlying reason. wink.gif

My buddy Tim who lives out there apparently has a myriad of stories about Title IX. My assumption is that he isn't a big fan of it.
