To open the new season's thread on a minor note, the Dodgers have sent pitchers Duaner Sanchez and Steve Schmoll to the Mets in exchange for Jae Seo and Tim Hamulack.

Damn it to hell. My boy Gagne's star pupil and Phoenix hot tub buddy wink Duaner Sanchez has been traded to the Mets. BIG mistake, Ned.
Next to Eric, Duaner was only decent closer on the team.

But they still have Brazoban, Jonathon Broxton, and Franquelis Osoria (granted, none were all that consistent last season; maybe the additional year will help) and it looks like Colletti aims to sign another reliever, possibly Jim Brower.

Bolstering the bullpen, the Dodgers got Danys "Don't Call Me Joan" Baez and Lance "Don't Call Me Rosalynn" Carter from the Devil Rays for prospects. Baez, who had been the closer for the Rays will most likely be the set up man for Eric "Don't Call Me Simon" Gagne and if Gagne isn't ready to go at the start of the season, Baez can fill the closer role.

How highly ranked are the prospects that the Dodgers gave up in this trade?
Oh and f**k tampa bay real hard. When the Mets were interested in Baez, they wanted Heilman (a pitcher with major league experience) and Lastings Milledge (who is our based offensive player).
Seems they took a lot less from LA plus through in another reliever to boot.
I hope next time contraction talks comes up they kick TB right out of the league.

The prospects the Dodgers gave up for Baez and Carter are generally viewed as being a year away from the bigs. Colletti praised both of them but stressed he wanted to win..... NOW.

The Seo acquisition may not be "minor"; he would've been the Dodgers' best starter last year. I'm angry at the Mets for giving up a useful, innings-eating rotation guy for what could be dime-a-dozen relievers.

My babe Eric Gagne started spring training with his homies in sunny Dodgertown, FL Thursday and Friday, and even uncorked a few rusty curveballs during practice. Gettin' there, slowly but surely! Some nice pix on the website; first time I've seen him bunt, lol. You go, Darlin'!

Vin Scully, whose mellifluous tones have described Dodger games since 1950, has signed a contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2008 season. Listening to his easy-going play-by-play coupled with his occasional Americana-style stories makes a perfect afternoon of baseball.

This is especially for rsteradio: Your favorite, Eric Gagne, has shown something new this spring. Pitching to Cesar Izturis and threw a slider, a pitch he hadn't attempted since becoming a closer. He says he's been working on it and hopes to add it to his arsenal this season.
In other--goofier--news from the Dodgers, Grady Little has instituted some new clubhouse rules. Players will not be allowed to listen to music without using headphones and card games/board games and cell phone use are also banned. Additionally, all TVs will be tuned to footage of that day's opposing pitcher. In the past, at least one TV was set to one of the Spanish language stations. Little did allow that these rules would be relaxed "during particularly long rain delays."

Thanks, Adam! I noticed during his few games last spring he had slipped in some lower velocity surprises since he knew his speed was down, and they still got the job done nicely. He's displayed some amazing versatility, and I hope this season is a healthy one for him and is his best yet.

Time for another linking lesson.
Since you put them in bold, the links aren't actually links -- you can't click on them and go directly to the page (at least not on my computer, but I suspect it's this way on everyone's). Plus, you can use the URL button to post the links and not only make them actual links, but you can integrate your clever remarks. Like this:

Since this will be available to fans at the Dodgers' single-A affiliate, it's appropriate in this thread. They will offer something called the Doughnut Burger: a bacon cheeseburger on a bun made out of a Krispy Kreme doughnut.

Grady Little says Eric Gagen (rst, are you paying attention now?

) is ready to go and will be used in the ninth inning exclusively. As the season moves on, Gagne may be used to get the final out in the eighth inning as well, but will
never be used for two full innings. Using Danys Baez and Yancey Brazoban more often should save Gagne's elbow. At least that's the hope.

Well, at least it's a lot better plan than last year, lol. In light of this news, hopefully my Quiche will get to further specialize his specialties with minimized risk. I found it delightfully devilish how his first pitch to his former teammate LoDuca on Wednesday was the new and improved slider. I'm sure that surprised the crap out of Paul, who apparently had once said that Eric's slider was lacking. No doubt LoDuca was treated to a Gagne grin after being struck out.

Yep, the no umbrella deal is BIZARRE. They've never allowed signs, either, evidently. I guess they're worried about blocking views or what-not. It would help with views if they told the pinheads who stand up before deciding what they want to do next to sit the f**k down. Add the wingnuts who wave at the camera while on their cell phones.

As for Gagne, this surgery really came out of the blue. His work in spring showed no sign of problem. Fortunately, this surgery won't be as extensive as what he underwent before but it'll still take awhile for his rehab. At least the Dodgers signed Danys Baez in the off-season, so we aren't wholly dependent on Brazoban this year.
