Tulsa Drillers coach Mike Coolbaugh died after being struck in the head by a line drive during a game. He was coaching first base at the time. What a freakish tragedy!

Considering that a pitcher is a little closer to the hitter than the first base (or third base) coach, and how many balls are hit hard through the middle, it's amazing that you don't see pitchers more seriously hurt or even killed.
And there are many worries about aluminum bats used at the college and other lower levels, yet this was in a league that uses wooden bats.
