Did anyone watch the premiere of Damages tonight on FX with the FABULOUS Glenn Close? Ok...I have a new favorite tv show. As soon as I heard the description and that Glenn Close was going to play the lead of a hard nosed Manhattan litigator I knew it would be my cup of tea. Plus, its on FX so they can curse and be a bit more graphic than the regular tv stations. The premiere episode was commerical free. I absolutely loved it. Glenn Close is no nonsense in this and plays the part perfectly. She is my favorite actress ever. From Fatal Attraction to 101 Dalmations to Serving in Silence to playing Sunny von Bulow in Reversal of Fortune, she has such range. She is just in a league of her own.

I saw the show and liked it as well. However it was late and I wasn't paying the closest of attention at the end. Did Glenn have the new attorney's boyfriend killed? What did she throw in the water? Answers appreciated.

Well see you had to watch it from the beginning. In the VERY beginning, the new attorney working for Glenn Close ran out of the building with blood all over her. Then it showed her in the police room. Then it said "6 months earlier". The new attorney was going to sign with another firm, but then said she had an appointment with Hewes and Associates. Glenn Close's character is named Hewes. So, apparently down the line, the boyfriend is killed and they are making it look like she killed him. The attorney's sister is involved in the high profile case involving Ted Danson. Glenn Close apparently had the sister's dog killed as a way to make it seem like it was Ted Danson's people because some guy had been watching her. The attorney that Glenn Close fired then came with the dog leash that belonged to the dog that was killed, making the point that it was Glenn Close who was behind it, and not the people working for Ted Danson. Glenn is ruthless in this and there is some speculation that Glenn only hired the new attorney because the sister is involved in the Ted Danson case. Its early but I love anything that Glenn Close has been in and she's perfect for this role. This is my type of show too in that it involves legal stuff and its on FX so I appreciate more the mature audience content. I don't know...makes it more realistic to me.

I agree wholeheartedly, mdterp, it was a terrific premiere and this is an ideal part for -no one does crazy/angry/devious better than- Glenn Close. The show's heavy with legal complexity and clearly Ms. Close is kind of...evil. Love it.

Wow...I don't know if any of you who responded to this have been keeping up with the show but its been so good and is climaxing to the finale. Glenn Close is awesome in this role and the storyline is so good. I guess it will be on for a few more weeks being as though Nip/Tuck takes over its Tuesday @ 10pm time slot on October 30th.

I'm right there with you. LOVE this show. And the guy playing the boyfriend (Noah Bean) is fine! (as long as you can get past the images of him dead in the bathtub . . .)

OMG!! OMG!! OMG!! This show's first season finale did NOT disappoint!! I PRAY there is a second season. Apparently the ratings are not what the show was hoping for and the president of FX says he wants to order a second season but also has a business to run. I will be so upset if this show doesn't come back for a second season. I'm in shock because I really didn't believe that Patti set up Ellen to be killed. I was sure it was Frobisher!!!! The bearded guy is a cop. Patti talked about having her own investigators to do stuff. So obviously that guy is I guess working for her. Then the old guy at the end of last week had me thinking he was a bad guy but he's actually working with the feds. Now, Ellen knows that Patty tried to kill her and is going to go back to Hewes and Associates to work with the feds to bring Patty down. I have not been this happy with a drama in a long time. I've always loved legal type shows. This one delivers. I am really going to have a Damages withdrawal because I've really looked forward to Tuesday nights to watch it!!! Wow...that was just superb. Definitely have to get the first season DVD. I wish the timing of the show was different though. If it had gotten some emmy nominations and wins that could go into helping it survive if they are still unsure of ordering a second season. But, it started over the summer so it wouldn't be emmy time before they have a chance to be nominated. However, there is still a Golden Globe possibility...even Screen Actors Guild. Glenn Close better be nominated for something. That woman plays the HELL out of that role!!! This is by far my favorite new show!!

This show was terrific! The actress who plays Ellen (Rose Byrne) really kicked it up as the season went on. Her scenes with patty the last couple of weeks were so good!
Now about Patty's dead baby. Me thinks Frobisher was the father or somehow had a hand in it's death. This would certainly explain her obsession with him. And if the show comes back I sure hope Frobisher isn't dead. This show had a higher body count than 24-Gregory, George Moore, Ray and David-that's a hole lot of dead regulars!
As for the show's renewal, I sure hope they bring it back. If they can renew Dirt and The Riches, FX should certainly give this show a second chance. But they haven't renewed Rescue Me yet either so maybe FX is thinking a new summer plan?
Oh and I was on 7th Avenue two weeks ago when they were shooting the scene with Ellen in the car with the other lawyer and the FBI agaents. Caught a quick glimpse of Rose Byrne. Always fun to stumble across these location shoots when trapsing around the city.

DAMAGES SEASON 2 PREMIERE TONIGHT AT 10PM COMMERCIAL FREE!!!!!
Oh my gawd I have been waiting FOREVER for this show to come back on. This is the best show on television to me. I am so intrigued to see how its all going to pan out. Maybe Patty didn't really try and kill Ellen, but perhaps someone tried to set Patty up. I don't know. The previews show Ellen saying she "thinks" Patty tried to kill her. I mean I just can't believe my girl Patty is going down. I have never anticipated the premiere of a show as much. Glenn Close truly deserved that emmy win, and I'm looking forward to the same riveting drama picking right back up again.

I've been reluctant to add a new show particularly since Nip/Tuck is back on, but your raves have worn me down Terp. I'm catching up on Season 1 this week and will join you next week on the boards.

LOVE it! been watching since day 1 of season 1.
Thought they wrapped things up a little abruptly with the whole bribe scenario, but other than that, thought it was great.
What's with the little Frobisher cameo with his "green" building? Think they are setting that up for next season?

I can't believe I just now saw this thread! I've watched every episode of the first two seasons. Yes, it's an excellent show. A good friend of mine works for Sony TV and he said there WILL be a third season, despite the terrible ratings. My guess: The next season features Ellen at another law firm and she has to go up against Patty Hewes. Just my guess.

Yeah i love this show though i found this season to be not as good as last. And I have one quibble. So Patty sat there in that meeting with Ellen after she'd been stabbed? Come on! But so long as Timothy Olyphant is coming back I'm willing to let stuff like that go.

I just read today that production on season 3 starts in September and the show will likely return in February/March.

I can't believe how good season one was, and how bad season two was.
Please don't read below if you don't want any spoilers.....
So many things in season two didn't work...like Ellen going back to work for the women who tried to have her whacked, Frobischer (sp?) deciding to "join forces" with Patty, Patty getting stabbed but still having the meeting with Ellen, etc...just plain lame, after such a great first season, too. it almost seems like they didn't expect there'd be a season two, and when the first one did so well, they had to throw it all together too quickly.
See or rent season one, it's incredible. My advice also would be to give season two a pass, it's frustratingly ridiculous.

The bitch is back!!! My girl Patty is back as Damages opened season 3 last week. Already some interesting things developing for season 3. I like the storyline of the Bernie Madoff like Ponzi scheme storyline. I love the fact that Lily Tomlin and Martin Short are on this year's cast. Can't wait to see how this season develops.

Wow, after just a couple of episodes in season 3, I'm already giving up on the show.
They're re-using the same formula from seasons 1 and 2 (show something horrible in the present, then start the flashbacks with constant jumps from past to present to show how it all happened) with the same kind of corporate villain whose wrongdoings screwed over all kinds of innocent people and the ruthless bitch lawyer engaging in acts that would get any lawyer disbarred within two seconds to bring said villain down, while the corporate villain engages in all kinds of acts of vicious, immoral, and sleazy obstruction. Yeah, yeah, yeah....
Even worse, the villain and his son, and their entire family, are whiney and un-interesting. Patty's still a completely unlikeable bitch, and you can tell they're already trying to find ways to bring Ellen back into the circle, even after all that happened in seasons 1 and 2, where any normal person with even a single iota of sense of self-preservation, let alone common sense, would avoid having anything to do with it.
I'll just be happy with season 1 as it was probably some of the best TV ever made. Unfortunately, it left nowhere to go for later seasons if they were to have even an ounce of credibility...unless season two were to have been the last, and Ellen got her true revenge on Patty and had her ass disbarred and thrown in jail, or better still, whacked Patty herself. That's hardly the direction the show took, though. Bummer.

I agree with you Tennis Guy about the Ellen angle. It's beyond any disbelief suspension that she would ever even talk to Patty or Tom let alone meet up with them. But I love the way they tell the story with the flashbacks and all...it's their signature. And this story is way more interesting than last season's arc. Plus William Hurt is gone thankfully...

Damages Season 1 and 2 are available on DVD and you can rent it from Netflix.
The season is getting very interesting. I do love the format of the show and how they fast forward to give you pieces of things each week. I too love to see Martin Short and Lily Tomlin in these serious roles and Glenn Close is my fave. I f*ckin love Patty Hewes. That is a bad bitch!!!
