With season 1 coming to DVD in about 3 weeks, here's a bit of news from this
Entertainment Weekly item about a recent panel discussion at Outfest in L.A. featuring some of the cast and producers...
QUOTE
The character with perhaps the most resonance with the audience, Betty's 12-year-old, musical-theater-adoring nephew Justin, was a obviously a popular topic. But show runners Horta and Pennette were loath to speak plainly about when the character would begin dealing directly with his sexuality -- "if he is gay," Horta said, before quickly adding, "which he probably is." What was crystal clear, however, was just how proud everyone on the stage is that a character like Justin exists, and that, as costar Ana Ortiz, who plays Justin's mother Hilda, put it, he's "a happy kid."
There were some season 2 developments that Horta and Pennette let slip: Judith Light -- who plays Eric Mabius' felonious mother -- will be a series regular, and speaking of mothers, Patti LuPone will reprise her role as Michael Urie's ma, whom we last saw rejecting her son after he came out to her. Perhaps she'll be meeting his new beau; to Urie's obvious delight, his character will (finally) land himself a boyfriend. And when an audience member began his question by mentioning that Justin's father/Hilda's fiancé died in May's season finale, Pennette interjected: "May have died." Oh, and there also may be a musical episode, which hopefully should make Justin doubly happy.

Well, no one ever actually heard the words "Santos has died" on the show. I'm figuring that since that Fox show "Drive" was quickly dropped, the actor is now available for them again.
I am holding out hope that he's in a coma. Or, if they really want to be outrageous, they could have a scene that starts immediately where we last saw Betty, with Hilda sobbing in her arms. The cell phone rings..."Hello? Yes...What? Mix-up??? What do you mean, it was some
other person named Santos???"

Ya know...I considered the possibility that he was just in very grave condition and not actually dead as I've thought about that finale as the summer has gone on. We didn't see anything after the shot and it really was up in the air so I guess we should've assumed the possibility that he could survive and that it was just all for drama. It was a cliffhanger after all. I hope Santos survives. He's hot and I'd like to see the relationship with Justin flourish more.

EXTREME SPOILER ALERT!!! Don't read any further if you don't wanna know!
This is a question to TV Guide spoiler guru Michael Ausiello re: Ugly Betty:
Question: Does Kevin Alejandro getting a part on Shark mean that Santos won't be returning to Ugly Betty next season to miraculously recover from getting shot?— Anna
Ausiello: (Spoiler alert) Alejandro will be back on Betty next season. I won't say in what capacity or for how long, but he will be back.
Just read that Vanessa Williams' ex and former NBA start Rick Fox will appear on a couple of episodes this season as Wilhemina's bodyguard.

I loved everything they did with Amanda. From the first time you saw her to "that's the kinda dirty that don't wash clean" and "shut it, pink berry." I thought she stole the episode.
The ending, however, was shocking!

OMG!
Junior and I were both so happy to see Santos alive, although as I was watching I was thinking it didn't make sense that they were holed up in Hilda's room for three weeks. Still, the sudden turn at the end left us pretty stunned.
I totally agree that Amanda was the star of the episode. And it's great to know that Judith Light will apparently be around for a bit - we love huh!
So Junior has decided to be Ugly Betty for Halloween this year. We bought his poncho last week.....

Strangely disappointing, I thought.
The writing seemed sort of wan, many of the jokes sort of forced, although all of it performed well by the great cast. However Mark Indelicato seemed sort of self conscious and thus restrained and thus a bit dull. Sad. I guess he's hit that age....
And just how many times can we watch Betty rage against the fashion machine? How many touching scenes between Betty and Daniel can we take, wherein she teaches him a lesson, and he makes her feel good about herself?
Perhaps not such a long shelf-life, this show.

What a fantastic start to season 2. Everyone was clicking on high gear I thought.
The Hilda/Santos storyline was perfect. It was quite shocking at the end. I think it is great when shows do plots like that, because I think it is kind of real life. I think you might just hide out in your room and daydream about how it might have gone differently.
Eric Mabius is just so darned cute.
Amanda's story is going to be interesting this season. Perhaps she will become another Meade and battle her siblings for the magazine.
And Alexis waking up at the end and forgetting she had her bits snipped. That offers a very classic storyline as well.

I'm in agreement with the majority here. It's great to have Betty back. The supporting roles/story lines stole the show last night.
I was getting really choked up at the sweetness of the Hilda/Santos story line and being couped up in Hildas room, hearing the wedding vows.....then BAM!! I am not ashamed to say a bawled like a baby.

To say goodbye.

I was sort of expecting it. I guess Kevin Alejandro found a job on another series, or else they could've had him in a coma instead of Alexis.
It was great to have the show back, though. It didn't seem quite as funny as the best of season 1, but I think it was because it was picking up the pieces from the finale.
Munson Man: Judith Light is now a regular on the series, I believe.

I LOVE Ugly Betty, but have to say that I have barely laughed out loud at all this entire season. One or two lines make me smile, but the show seems to have gone for dramatics a bit too much (Santos, Alex's coma, Daniel's guilt over the accident, the accountant's paternity issue, etc.). So far, season 2 is not nearly as good as season 1, IMO.

I think it's less funny (I disagree) because the show is based on a telenovela, a soap opera.

I was starting to lose interest, but tonight's show was back on track. Loved the Marc romance! Kudos to the show for putting him with an "average Joe" kind of guy, rather than someone similar to himself. Obviously there will be issues (you know Amanda's going to have something to say about it) and they'll have to deal with the fact they both have very different lifestyles... but the hand-holding and footsies at the end... so cute!

Marc's romance storyline was cute, but my favorite part from last night's episode was Hilda realizing she had to get it together to get her son in check! Her scene with Justin at the end was my favorite of the night. That kid was fast on track to really getting into something bad. Fortunately, the car crash only hurt the car. But, the scene was touching about how he just wanted to make his dad proud. It was funny trying to see him be all machismo with such a swishy walk. His scenes are always some of my favorite on Ugly Betty.

Lock up the liquor — and hide that cute Eric Mabius, too. (Can't be too careful.) Hopefully reformed party animal Lindsay Lohan is in talks to join Ugly Betty for three episodes, playing a former high-school classmate of Betty's who manages the fast-food joint where our heroine's pop punches the clock, sources tell the New York Observer. Natch, good-hearted Betty will try to give LiLo a leg up with a gig at "Mode."
When TVGuide.com asked ABC about the buzz, they issued a firm "No comment," which to my thinking is the next best thing to a "Yes, it's true! Isn't this exciting?!"
