Well, since I did a thread for the new Ugly Betty season, why not one for this show? smile.gif Series creator Marc Cherry revealed some stuff...

QUOTE
In the early episodes, a gay couple will move to Wisteria Lane. One of the gay men will have "a hateful, fractious relationship" with Susan. Susan tries to be politically correct and misspeaks herself. The situation steadily worsens.

"I'm going to have the first male Desperate Housewife," Cherry said. "They move on the street, and they have as many issues as any couple."

and...

QUOTE
"There will be an appearance by Miss Sheridan in our first episode, and it will be amazing."

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm........
Gaga4Gaby
I don't know about this. I just don't know. I can't imagine DH without Edie and, if she's truly dead, my interest is gone.

I do like the idea of a gay male couple moving into town and one of them having catfights with Susan. That has potential, even if it is just a hollow Edie replacement.
softballstud
My guess is that Edie will be pregnant, this will allow them to revisit her Carlos storyline as well.
George Twins fan
Here are the actors who will play the gay couple:

Kevin Rahm Best known for Judging Amy.

Tuc Watkins Best known for One Life to Live

I don't know about Rahm, but Watkins playing gay won't be mcuh of an acting stretch.

mdterp01
That Edie sure is a scheming bitch. I should've known with her manipulative ass that it was all set up very well. When the nosey neighbor came though I did for a second think uh oh...her plan may backfire. But, of course...Carlos came just in time. Then, going through Carlos' things to find out about his offshore account. That one I'm not even going to put on Edie. That was Carlos' dumb ass fault for leaving that kind of information to be found at Edie's. That would be in a safety deposit box somewhere or buried in a secret spot. But wow....she's got Carlos by the balls.

What is the secret of the new neighbors? Is that girl a twin? Did the other twin die? Was whatever traumatic experience that happened to her cause her to have some kind of PTSD amnesia. You never know with this show. They'll make some mess up if need be. She was funny though asking Bree to cut her tree down. I was like ungh ungh no she didn't. Bree is not the one to try with that. Oh and Nathan Fillon, aka Joey Buchanan from One Life To Live is a nice addition. I always thought he was a cutie.

Bree's attacks on the old ladies were HILARIOUS, especially the one whose arm she grabbed real tight and then played it off when the guy asked if everything was ok.

Poor Gaby...whats a girl to do. Carlos won't be able to get away from Edie for awhile and she clearly made a mistake marrying the senator.

Lynette's cancer thing is tough. When she took the wig off and had the talk with Gaby, Lynette, and Bree it was a very emotional scene. I understand about her not wanting to tell them because of the pity looks and being the sick girl. Total understandable too because with them not knowing I would imagine you do have those girl times where you can forget about it for awhile.

I also look forward to the gay couple arriving at Wisteria Lane. Tuc Watkins, aka David Vickers from One Life to Live is quite the hottie as well.

That opening scene showing Edie faking the suicide was funny. But after the scene with her telling Carlos about his offshore account I was kind of wishing she would've actually killed herself. And taken Susan with her, with her stupid whining to Mike about their marriage being doomed. And now she's pregnant?

I'm still watching, though. The new neighbors are interesting. Let's see how things go with the gay couple.

My mom is a huuuuuge OLTL (One Life to Live) fan, as is one of my closest former co-workers, so I'm quite familiar with Tuc's body. I mean, body of work. He's really funny, actually, and I look forward to the new gay neighbors because I confident a lot of hysterical hijinks will ensue. Actually, the physical comedy and goofs with Susan (Teri Hatcher) usually fall flat for me (I don't think they're that funny...), but with Tuc Watkins in the mix, the show might actually become more of a bonafide comedy.
MiamiSpartan
Yes, I'm still watching...
Good episode last night, especially when Lynette accidently ate those hash brownies....
Also, the gay couple move in next week...
Boltergeist
Thank god for online on-demand. I can catch up with DH and Betty the next day.

After what I felt was a nosedive in season 3 and, moreso, in season 2, I really feel like Desperate Housewives has recaptured some of its season 1 magic.

I've found every episode this season to be incredibly funny and entertaining.

Hopefully adding the gay couple will add to that.
Joe in Philly
Last night had me laughing a lot. Best show of the season thus far.

The tale of the new/old neighbor, her current husband and her daughter is intriguing yet confusing. Is there one mystery? Two? More?
aquaman
I never really fell out of love with DH, despite its ups and downs (though some episodes and parts of seasons made me ask why I continued to watch), but season 4 has me glued again. I think they've gone back to not being too serious, a la the Applewhites, and have recaptured what made me fall for the show in season 1.

One thing about the promo featuring the gay couple -- did one of the guys actually say to Susan, "we're life partners?" or did I imagine that? Who the heck uses the phrase "life partners" anymore? That's such a relic from the "Philadelphia" era, IMO. I could see not using the phrase "husband", but is "partner" or "boyfriend" too controversial?
Rick62
I am actually enjoying DH this year again too. I think the "Bree pretending to be pregnant" storyline is way over the top, but I am very interested in the gay couple storyline. I wonder if they can be role models for Andrew. I also think that Tuc Watkins is so hot! I remember him from Beggars and Choosers ( a Showtime series).
mdterp01
Susan tripping all over her words with the new gay couple was funny. I'm not a Susan fan at all. If she was killed off I'd jump for joy. But that scene was cute. She was trying so hard to be PC but it just came out ALL WRONG!!! Then, her fake baking those cookie bars and it blowing up in her face was funny. What is it about gay men and black women in their ability to shut people down so well with words? All that was missing was for him to snap his fingers. And Tuc Watkins can play gay for me ANY TIME!!!! He's kept that body nice too. Maybe Andrew will twink it out for him laugh.gif After all, we all know Andrew is off the hook. He did sleep with his mother's ex BF.

The thing with Lynette's husband freaking out when the wig came off and him losing sexual interest was kind of funny but also very real. I felt bad for Lynette and her husband (whose name I can't think of. Is it Tom? The lesser known characters on DH always escape me) Anywho...I'm sure this is an issue for many men whose wives are going through chemo as well as lesbians whose partners are now bald, and for gay men whose partners may now be bald.

Wow...I actually got a kick out of stupid Susan in tonight's episode. Her whole trying to get the new gay couple to like her, which backfired in every which way was funny. And if she was the reason my $2000 Dolce got paint all over it...yeah b*tch...you better cough up the cash.

Hot alert: Jesse Metcalfe (aka John) returns next week!!!! That boy is fine!!

And my favorite part of the show remains Mary Alice's words at the end of each episode. I agree with previous posts that this show is back on top with what it was in season one. I appreciate Cherry for trying to bring some color onto Wisteria Lane a couple seasons ago, but their storyline absolutely SUCKED (even though the hot son was nice to look at) Alfre Woodard was the only one to get nominated that year though so she did the best she could with that crap given to her.
MiamiSpartan
I thought the gay couple, especially the one, was really obnoxious....
The crabs episode was pretty funny...Edie has it figured out....

and FYI: My partner's bald, and I think he is just SO sexy! I've always had a thing for bald men!
mdterp01
Definitely Spartan. There are quite a few baldies that catch my eye. What I was pointing out though were people suffering with cancer who had full heads of hair and had now lost that hair because of chemotherapy. Its quite the change. I thought it was really good last night. What about the partner having to deal with the sickness of the one they love? One of my ex's was diagnosed with testicular cancer about 6 months after we broke up and it was hard for me then, and we weren't even together. It really makes you think of your own mortality and the fears. I think I may have reacted the same way Tom did with the wig thing.
George Twins fan
Twice I lost my hair due to chemo. While I was freaked at first about losing my hair, I came to actually not mind it and even enjoy it a bit. But I was really happy when it grew back! But men obviously have it so much easier than women.

I like this season okay so far. But, as someone pointed out, the gay couple's introduction left something to be desired. The one guy especially was pretty obnoxious and a little too stereotypically fussy. And the scenes where we first see them living in the big city were just ridiculous. What the hell city were they supposed to be living in that looked like that? I can't imagine the fussy one tolerating that neighborhood for a nanosecond.
dachs
I'm really disliking Lee, the exceptionally arrogant and condescending half of the gay couple. I hope they change the writing for his character soon. One of the main charms of DH is that each character has a likable side, but there's nothing to like about Lee at this point. He's just a jerk.
dfwAggie99
See, I have to disagree with you, dachs. I try to be a nice, pleasant person, but if I had to deal with neighbors like Catherine or Susan, my claws/bitchiness/rudeness might slip out too. wink.gif
mdterp01
dfw...I co-sign on that one!!! If I had a neighbor like Catherine it would be ugly because she thinks her sh*t don't stink. She surely got set straight though from the gay couple since they know why the good Dr. was booted from the hospital in Chicago. Susan is just flighty and I can't stand women like that so she would definitely work what last nerve I would have left after having to deal with them broads. I don't think Lee has said anything wrong or acted in a way that wasn't warranted from one of Susan's stupid comments or Catherine's nose in the air "Perfect Patty" aura.
dfwAggie99
mdterp01, I can tell by your response that you're good people biggrin.gif

Good episode- but what ever happened to the gay couple?

DAMN IT - I read a spoiler w/out realizing it earlier this week. An online article didn't give anything away, *EXCEPT* that the McCluskey house was gone. When the show started, I thought, "Oh... they'll have to go back to Lynette and Tom's house because of the cat, and Lynette will feel really guilty..." Then, when Victor got the picket fence plank thru the sternum, I thought, "Phew, I thought they were going to kill Tom..."

I mean, that IS where the weathervane turned at the beginning of the episode, right? Right after Mary Alice narrated that one of the ladies would lose her husband.

But, ummm, with McCluskey's house missing??? Maybe Tom saves the kids somehow. I hope. I can't believe they'd kill those kids (for ratings? I mean, the show is plenty dramatic enough). I don't know I'd want to watch the show if they did.

Just wondering the same thing....maybe the tornado took them off to Oz....

Also, have the writers ever been thru a tornado??? No one runs around preparing their home by taping windows...No one even discusses if there's a watch....

Good episode, tho....And Susan finally got a chance to act...

when is the next one running??
WChip
Yeah, I figured for sure they'd have the gay couple and some Wizard of Oz references- glad they didn't- also glad we don't have to watch Victor anymore- he never seemed a good fit. I wonder if Mike Farrell will continue to be part of things somehow- contesting the will perhaps.

Tom and the kids and Ida are under the rubble, but I'm sure they'll be dug out alive.

Mary Alice specifically said that one of them would lose her husband, and that husband was Victor. But ABC's promotion of it -- showing Lynette's blood-curdling scream in the promos -- sure made it seem like it would be Tom.

I was thinking the same thing - spent a lot of the episode yelling (well, not quite) at the tv or just rolling my eyes. I think someone was confusing 'tornado' with 'hurricane' when they were writing this episode.

Nobody seemed to be too concerned about the teen kids either. I know Andrew moved out, but he didn't move THAT far away. And Susan seems to hate Julie as much as we do. And even Katherine's daughter was MIA.

Also the openign said one of them would lsoe a husband and that they would lose a friend. If that friend was that loon locked in Bree's bathroom, well that's just bogus. Therefore I think Ida may have died. Just a theory.

Dylan and Julie were off on a class trip (somewhere away from the storm). Katherine was on the phone with Dylan when she was taping up the windows and told her to tell Julie that she'd keep an eye on her mom.
Rick62
I was thinking the same thing when the woman who locked herself in the bathroom was killed off. It was like when Orson's ex wife fell off the roof trying to 'warn' him about his mother's plan to kill Bree! I remember reading somewhere that 2 characters would die on this episode and I don't think Victor or the loon could have survived their ordeals!

The poor cat is also still unaccounted for ... tongue.gif

I thought the episode was great, especially the last half. Sure, it wasn't particularly realistic on all fronts, but it's not the first or last time that will be the case on Desperate Housewives. I liked Gaby and Edie's fight over the money and then when they were locked up together in Edie's crawl space.

Victor was the worst character. I was so glad when he was impaled by that fence!

The setting is not California. All the cars' license plates have a fictional state nickname of "The Eagle State", not California plates.

Anyhow, I think the tornado idea was ridiculous, both from a scientific standpoint and as a plot device. I got the sense that last night's episode put DH one huge step closer to jumping the shark. What next, revolutionaries at Carols and Gabby's Moldavian wedding?

I noticed on Mikes pill bottle that it said Fairview, ES - so THAT'S what ES stands for.

According to an article I read, because of the writer's strike there's only one more new episode. I saw a promo for the new show on Jan. 6th, which I assume to be that final episode. It showed Lynette asking something like "Why can't we hear them?" So I guess the whole episode will be stretched out until Tom and the kids are finally pulled from the rubble.

What I wonder is if they're going to spend a few episodes showing Wisteria Lane being rebuilt, or will the next episode they make start with a "six months later" graphic and everything back to normal?
MiamiSpartan
I enjoyed last night's episode...
The scene where Bree is pimping out her son to get the gay contractor to rebuild their house was classic!

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!

What I liked about the show last night is that it saved the kids and Tom early on and did not drag it out as some sort of cliffhanger. I think that Gaby's character is becoming too cartoonish. I did not like the part where the gay couple labeled themselves as '9's' but the contractor as a '3'. It is just another stereotype. Overall, I liked the show especially having Ida being a women baseball player. I hope they realize that they might be able to sell her stuff on Ebay!!

It was out of place with the rest of the show. They should have included it as part of the last episode. And the way they hyped it, to get it out of the way in the very beginning was kind of a cheat. Perhaps ABC's promo department is more to blame.

I thought the Ida storyline makes another valid point why this show can be great. Even though Ida is gone, I would really like to see her "bitchy" niece come back on the show. Also, I like how the writers are giving more screen time to Mrs. Karen McCluskey - she is a quality actress - and anything that takes time away from Susan being on the show is fine with me. Karen's poem she spoke during the releasing of Ida's ashes really moved me. I would really like to know who penned it...
mdterp01
I missed last night's show to watch the premiere of the last season of The Wire on HBO, but I watched it a little earlier on ABC.com. Oh...my god....HILARIOUS!! I don't care what anyone says...I love Gabrielle. She had me rollin when she got busted in the garage and was like "WHY...WHY DO PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE!!!" Classic, over the top, histrionic Gabrielle Solis. I liked how she was booted out of the funeral too. "I'm delivering the eulogy and if I see you still sitting in this pew I'm going to tell everyone in the audience what a lying, cheating whore you are". She sure got to high stepping.

I'm glad that they resolved the tornado early in the episode too. I know that dragging it out is dramatic but it didn't bother me. Bree trying to "pimp" Andrew onto the contractor was too much. "Our son Andrew is a proud and out homosexual" says Bree in her conservative, matriarch voice. Loved it!! Susan sabotaging it was funny too.

I liked the thing with Ida and how Lynette switched the ashes with vacuum cleaner dust to give to her obnoxious relatives. And WHAT is the secret of the new family. What the hell was in that note and what the hell did the mother do to that girl that she doesn't remember? Thats what I really want to find out. The way they are dragging that out is good. Its really keeping me intrigued to find out what thing they did. It must be horrible.

Sucks that the writer's strike is affecting the shows and awards shows, but I support what they are striking for and hope that they get what they want.

The poem is by Mary Elizabeth Frye

Last night's ep was great, really funny. I even enjoyed Susan during this ep and I usually hate her with a passion. I didn't miss Mike on the show at all. The Susan and Mike storyline really is just dead weight. Gabby is just so over the top, but Eva Longoria just kills her scenes. And how can you not love BJ Honeycutt calling Gabby a lying, cheating whore. I surprised by how much I'm loving this show this season. I'd only had a passing interest in it the past couple of years. Too bad this is the last episode for a long while.
CHIathlete
Sunday's episode was the best of the past two seasons. I agree that Gabby's character is cartoonish and WONDERFUL. The scene with the garage door opening was a riot.

Thanks Puddy for providing us with info on the poem. I've become such a huge fan of Mrs. McCluskey (Kathryn Joosten). What a great actress. I found her resume on line: http://kathrynjoosten.com/res.html

She didn't start acting until age 42!

It may be a stereotype, but it seems to fit those characters, at the very least. The "3" they were talking about wasn't really hideous.
