The Outside Line

• TOYS ARE US: When the temperature spikes, the toys come out. Seen on a balmy Friday in the parking lot across from Angler's Inn on the Potomac River: a station wagon carrying a touring kayak, a whitewater kayak and a road bike. Clearly, people are getting itchy to get outside, but you can't do much unless you've got the right gear. On March 14 paddlers can stock up on boats, spray-skirts, paddles, helmets, lifejackets, paddling partners and tall tales (\"The waterfall I jumped was sooo huge,\" etc.) at the Canoe Cruisers Association's swap meet -- postponed from December because of bad weather -- starting at about 7:15 p.m. at the Clara Barton Community Center, 75th and MacArthur Boulevard, Cabin John. The featured speaker is U.S. Geological Survey hydrologist Dan Soeder. For directions and more information, visit Canoe Cruisers Association.
