Police Plead for Clues in NJ Slayings
This story is a few days old and it has just seriously disturbed me. Gangs have always been an issue but if this was a gang initiation murder thing, this will be one in a number of stories I have heard recently about innocent people simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time and chosen to be the ones to die so that sick thugs can be initiated into gangs. Its absolutely terrifying to think that a person is that vulnerable. I am just so sick of this shit in our country. The guns are out of control. The murder rates in Philadelphia and Baltimore are HORRENDOUS and the year is just barely half over.
Thank god I have the fortune of living in a "safe" community. Whatever safe means anymore. That murdered family in CT certainly wasn't safe from the maniacs who strangled the mother, sexually assaulted and burned the daughters, and beat the living crap out of the father. But, instances like that are more isolated in those kinds of communities. I mean I count my blessings that I do live in what would be deemed as a safe community and not someplace like north Philadelphia or West Baltimore. I certainly don't live in fear but I am very aware of my surroundings and I do tailor certain things to make sure I'm not in a deserted area late at night or going to be walking to my car from the mall or some store late at night.
I recently attended a seminar on the rise of gangs and I had no idea about it. There is this gang called the MS-13's that I had never heard of before this seminar. They originated from Central America and according to the FBI they are growing to be one of the most dangerous gangs in the country. This country is long overdue in really addressing the problem of crime in this country, particularly youth crime. Violent crimes amongst youth is rising big time and it has to do with poverty, isolation, hopelessness, and gangs providing a sense of belonging, family, and monetary opportunities for people. Most importantly though...it starts at home. I don't know what some of these parents are doing but they've got to step it up. Then you have people in communities who are fearful of going to the police in fear they will be killed...something I totally understand. What I don't agree with is the whole "don't snitch" mentality, not because you fear for your life, but simply because you think its bad to be a snitch. What the f**k is that shit? Excuse my language but we are losing way too many people, young and old to this nonsense. God bless those 3 kids who were trying to do something positive with their lives. Thank God there was a survivor who can hopefully identify these bastards. This story just broke my heart and had me in tears.
