Last night, in an unanticipated turn of events, I ended up in a pool practicing with the new gay water polo team in Chicago. What a blast! Oy. What a workout.
The team has a few experienced players, but it was mostly beginners so it was fun to just jump in and learn a new sport. We did some drills and scrimaged at the end of practice. It's definitely a game I could get into.
If anybody near Chicago is interested in trying water polo, let me know and I'll put you in contact with the guys starting the club. They are currently holding practice on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 8:30 to 9:30 pm at Gill Park on Sheridan just west of Broadway.
Watch for an announcement of the new club on the Outsports site.

I'd like keep an eye out for this opportunity as it is documented on the site.
I think a day of water polo would be a welcome addition to a Chicago visit!

Hey no problem Bluebird. Practices are totally open so pack your suit for your next visit.
The club is coming along nicely. Attendance is good and it looks as though we've settled on a name: Chicago Riptide. We are talking about trying to do the big aquatic event in San Fran at the end of August. We have HEAPS of work to do. But I'm having a blast learning the sport.
