Team DC is coordinating Night OUT with the Nationals for July 19, against the Colorado Rockies. Only $10, what a bargain!!!
We're hoping to sell 450 tickets to this, so we need a big community response.
We'll have tickets for sale tonight at the Chicago Gay Games presentation at the Beacon Hotel at 1615 Rhode Island Avenue, NW at 7pm.
In addition, we'll be selling tickets at the Bear Happy Hour at Titan on Friday, the Pride Parade Beer Garden by Jr's on Saturday, and the Team DC tent at Pride on Sunday.
We're also in the process of setting up a web site where people can buy tickets for the Night OUT at the Nationals online, via the Nationals web site. I'll keep everyone posted.
Again, we need a huge community response to this, as the Nationals are happy to have us in attendance. Please forward this information on to anyone you know who might be interested in attending the game. Who knows, we might even still be in first place!
If you have any questions, you can email nationalsnightout@yahoo.com
Thanks! And spread the word!

Great news! There's a big contingent of Outsporters in the D.C. area, so I'm sure you'll get lots of support.
I've listed the event on my
website. Might I recommend that you put some info on the event on the Team D.C. website, such as dates/times/locations of where people can purchase tickets.
Also, you should try and get some prominent gay/lesbian politicians to attend. That'll raise the profile of the event, attract attention, and help with ticket sales.

dupont red - Well I'm glad that you were able to work with them - they never even responded to my phone calls or emails (maybe you got to them first).
However, why did you have to schedule a game for a night I won't be able to make it?!!! I have to be in NC that day, and won't be back in DC until at least 7 PM, so I don't think it will be possible to go - phooey!

Actually, this was in response to a Blade article a few weeks ago. Team DC had originally talked to the Blade about buying 25 tickets or so for its member teams, and then the Blade called the Nationals too see if they'd be interested in a Gay Day.
Well, we're not calling it a Gay Day, but the Nationals are happy to sell tickets to whoever wants to buy them!
Sorry about the weekday game

We were able to get the cheaper tickets on that day.

New
Blade article on "Night Out with the Nationals."
QUOTE
Team D.C. has reserved a block of 450 seats in the stadium’s upper deck, directly behind home plate, at a price of $10 per seat, $5 less than the regular price of $15 for the seats, Minor said. As part of its group sales policy for all community groups, the Nationals will arrange for a pre-game ceremony on the field for Team D.C., and announce the group’s presence over the stadium’s public address system if the group sells 250 or more seats, (Team D.C. president Brent) Minor said.

Team D.C. plans to sell tickets for the event at the Capital Pride festival this weekend and expects to arrange for ticket sales at the Lambda Rising Bookstore near Dupont Circle.

I sent an e-mail to nationalsnightout@yahoo.com, and got a link to purchase to tickets for the Nationals/Rockies game within about an hour! While I am not crazy about bringing a sheet of paper as my ticket (e-ticket) to the game, it is hard to complain about 7.50 seats. Even if my boyfriend and I cannot make it for some reason, I am only out 15-20 dollars. So, I give this thread a bump and encourage you guys to support the Nationals (or Rockies, if you wish)

I used the Ticketmaster "print your own ticket" option a time or two when I went to Orioles games the summer I was living there and it worked fine. For some unknown reason I printed my ticket this year for the game I'm going to see in September in Boston, so I'm hoping for a similar outcome.

Just a general fyi for people in D.C/Nationals fans...
When I was going through picking a game I was going to see, I noticed that there are several games where tickets are buy one, get one free. They were all weeknight games obviously, maybe a Friday game too.
Great deal!

Hey...just as a heads up. The online ticketing system had a bit of a glitch yesterday, but it's back up now. If you still want to buy tickets, send an email to nationalsnightout@yahoo.com.
We've sold about 500 tickets so far, and hope to reach 1,000 before all is said and done.
Would love to have a bunch of DC Outsporters there in full force.

I hadn't heard of this event until I decided to visit the board today, but will definately get a ticket or two. Hopefully I can coerce some of my friends to go. None of them like baseball (or any sports for that matter), but they might turn out for a event such as this.

I am thinking of visiting DC and taking in a game... currently in nyc area where i am staying for an extended visit... how do I get to the ballpark? (was thinking of amtrak to dc). is it easy to take the metro there? Too bad the "night out" is on a weekday or I would go then. any info is appreciated.

Welcome to the board, Jim -- according to the Nats website you take the Blue/Orange line to the Stadium-Armory stop at 19th and E. Capitol. A short walk on E. Capitol takes you to RFK.
If you're based in NYC a while and want to take Amtrak, you might want to take in a Phillies game as well at Citizens Bank Park. wink

Yeah, it's definitely very easy and recommended to take Metro to RFK Stadium for the baseball game. Once you get off the train...well, just follow the throngs of people.
We've sold about 750 tickets so far...and the totals keep rising every day. Community response has been great! Of course, it helps that the Nats are in first place.
Email nationalsnightout@yahoo.com if you want to purchase tickets online.

Hmmmm so possibilities for my amtrak wanderlust:
[10 Sun] PHILLY nats @ philly 1:35
next week could be:
[16 Sat] BOSTON yankees @ redsox 1:15
[17 Sun] BOSTON whitesox @ redsox 1:05
then the week after that could be:
[23 Sat] DC houston @ nats 7:05
[24 Sun] DC houston @ nats 1:05
weather permitting.

750+ for a first-time event for a new team... great news, dupontred!
Might I also recommend that you encourage people to wear coordinated clothing in order to help your group stand out. For example, sports teams could wear their team uniform. Not only will this make you stand out, but it will be sending a good message to the public--that gay & lesbian people are active participants in team sports. Rainbow flags, banners and signs are good, too, to help create a community feeling.

You skipped a week, there, Jim. The Red Sox play the White Sox on Sunday 7/24. On Sunday 7/17, the Yankees are still at Fenway.

Well, today's the day! And we're happy to say that we've sold over 1,100 tickets. Not bad for a first time event, and a first year team!
About 50 tickets still left for sale online, if anyone still wants to get in on the fun. Send an email to nationalsnightout@yahoo.com
Oh, and I get my picture taken with the mascot on the infield right before the game, too, so keep an eye out for me if you're there by 6:30.

Just make sure we get to see the picture of you with the mascot. wink

No pic with the Mascot. Apparently it was too hot. (About 95, 102 with the humidity.)
But we did get our photo with the first pitch thrower: actor Djimon Hounsou (Gladiator, Amistad, In America), in town to promote his new movie, The Island.

It was a fun game, even if I was a little exhausted this morning and came in late. John Patterson pitched a brilliant game! Thanks for being involved with this project, Dupont Red.

As Cattledog said, the game was nice, especially if you are a Nationals fan. Good pitching on both sides, for the most part, and some timely hitting by the Nats. However, I do admit to a bit of scoreboard watching to see how the Yankees were doing.
Looks like gay day was a success with 1100 tickets sold. It appears that most of these tickets were in adjacent sections on the 500 level, and from what I can tell, almost all, if not all, the people in our section were there for gay day.
Congrats to Dupontred for his work and success in getting this together.

A terrific result for a first-time event with a brand new team. It just shows ya all the gays (and lesbians) in Washington. wink
Does anyone know if there was any coverage of this event in the gay or non-gay media?
Great work dupontred and Team DC!

Great article and pics! Interesting quote for our politically minded friends:
QUOTE
Among those attending with gay fans were D.C. Councilmember Carol Schwartz (R-At-Large) and Montgomery County Councilmember Howie Denis (R-At-Large).
“Let it be known that the only two elected officials here tonight are Republicans,” Schwartz said.

Just remember a Republican from D.C. is more liberal than a Democrat from just about any "red" state ... And being a resident of MoCo, the republicans elected are elected for fiscal conservatism, not social .. so it is no surprise that those two republicans went.
