Well, it seems that Idaho Republican Senator Larry Craig was arrested in June on a misdemeanor for lewd conduct in a public restroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport.
The link doesn't work to Roll Call, so here's the brief description:
QUOTE
WASHINGTON — Sen. Larry Craig was arrested in June in Minnesota and paid $575 in fines and fees for a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct,
A Hennepin County (Minn.) District Court spokesperson said Craig's case was put off and could be dismissed after one year of unsupervised probation. A 10-day prison sentence was stayed.
"Sen. Craig was continued for dismissal. The conditions (for dismissal) are no same or similar" violations during his probation period, the spokesperson said.
Details of the arrest were first reported in Capitol Hill's Roll Call newspaper. The paper states that an undercover officer arrested the Idaho Republican during the course of an investigation into lewd conduct complaints in a men's public restroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.[/b]
What

Yep, I remember when this story broke about him being outed last fall I think it was and he vehemently denied it.....Larry craig is an ultra-conservative from an ultra conservative state, right next door to me here. I expect my Spokesman-Review tomorrow morning should have an interesting story about this. They did the first time. I also understand he is up for re-election this year too...another one bites the dust!

Senator Larry Craig (R-Freakville), outed last year as someone else noted, and implicated in a drugs-and-sex scandal back in 1982, is reputed to have a thing for train station bathrooms, so this isn't surprising. I love how this family-values conservative 1) tried to flee the stall after learning he was busted; 2) tried to intimidate the officer AFTER he was arrested, and 3) is now saying that it was a "he said/he said misunderstanding."
GIRL, PLEASE!
Let's put it out there: closeted right-wing queers, PLEASE get help and stop plaguing the rest of us with your psychological issues. PLEASE. Spare us your anti-gay legislation, your racism, your war-mongering wingnuttery, your hatred of liberals, who are trying to make life better even for self-loathing types like you, all of it. WE can deal with being gays, lesbians, bis and trans. YOU are the ones who need help, and don't blame it on Jesus!

Especially when they do it in His name, too! I can't speak for Jesus, but I'd kinda guess the Son of God would not be too happy with those who use His name to criticize others for behavior they themselves commit.

* Voted YES on prohibiting same-sex marriage. (Sep 1996)
* Voted NO on prohibiting job discrimination by sexual orientation. (Sep 1996)
Craig has a 0% rating in HRC's 2006 Congressional Scorecard.
One wonders where he stands on laws criminalizing gay sex in public facilities. Something tells me he's strongly for them.
And here's
Roll Call's detailed version of Craig's cruisy actions:
QUOTE
According to the incident report, Sgt. Dave Karsnia was working as a plainclothes officer on June 11 investigating civilian complaints regarding sexual activity in the men's public restroom in which Craig was arrested.
Airport police previously had made numerous arrests in the men's restroom of the Northstar Crossing in the Lindbergh Terminal in connection with sexual activity.
Karsnia entered the bathroom at noon that day and about 13 minutes after taking a seat in a stall, he stated he could see "an older white male with grey hair standing outside my stall."
The man, who lingered in front of the stall for two minutes, was later identified as Craig.
"I could see Craig look through the crack in the door from his position. Craig would look down at his hands, 'fidget' with his fingers, and then look through the crack into my stall again. Craig would repeat this cycle for about two minutes," the report states.
Craig then entered the stall next to Karsnia's and placed his roller bag against the front of the stall door.
"My experience has shown that individuals engaging in lewd conduct use their bags to block the view from the front of their stall," Karsnia stated in his report. "From my seated position, I could observe the shoes and ankles of Craig seated to the left of me."
Craig was wearing dress pants with black dress shoes.
"At 1216 hours, Craig tapped his right foot. I recognized this as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct. Craig tapped his toes several times and moves his foot closer to my foot. I moved my foot up and down slowly. While this was occurring, the male in the stall to my right was still present. I could hear several unknown persons in the restroom that appeared to use the restroom for its intended use. The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot which was within my stall area," the report states.
Craig then proceeded to swipe his hand under the stall divider several times, and Karsnia noted in his report that "I could ... see Craig had a gold ring on his ring finger as his hand was on my side of the stall divider."
Karsnia then held his police identification down by the floor so that Craig could see it.
"With my left hand near the floor, I pointed towards the exit. Craig responded, 'No!' I again pointed towards the exit. Craig exited the stall with his roller bags without flushing the toilet. ... Craig said he would not go. I told Craig that he was under arrest, he had to go, and that I didn't want to make a scene. Craig then left the restroom." In a recorded interview after his arrest, Craig "either disagreed with me or 'didn't recall' the events as they happened," the report states.
Craig stated "that he has a wide stance when going to the bathroom and that his foot may have touched mine," the report states. Craig also told the arresting officer that he reached down with his right hand to pick up a piece of paper that was on the floor.
"It should be noted that there was not a piece of paper on the bathroom floor, nor did Craig pick up a piece of paper," the arresting officer said in the report.

So much of the story reminded me so much of the (sad) Jim West saga from a couple of years ago...
AS mentioned above, the Idaho Statesman ( Boise) is reporting that a similar situation occurred in a D.C. train station awhile ago..
This story was all over the talking head programs last night. Craigs reasoning ( excuses) were hilarious! My personal favorite is him explaining his footsies: " I have a wide stance"...Oh my Gawd!!!!
According to the story his office is receiving calls from all over the world, and the fallout has begun. He has resigned from his connection to the Mitt Romney campaign, and now will be watching to see if he decides to seek re-election.....stay tuned...

Craig is going to have a press conference out of Boise this afternoon at about 1:30pm (pst). My noon news lead off with the fallout from this story. A Reporter in D.C. said this is ALL they are talking about in D.C. right now, and Craig didn't even bother to inform any other colleagues (Repubs) to give them any kind of a heads up about this fiasco beforehand. If I was Repub. I would truly be pissed.....it should be interesting to hear the press conference....

I have a total feeling of deja vu after watching Craigs press conference which CNN just carried live. Craig is going after the Idaho Statesman now and blaming them for causing all kinds of stress he said, and he also accused them of a "witchhunt". He must have said " I am not gay" 100 times at least. Said that he regretted his decision to admit guilt in this incidence and now is obtaining legal counsel, thinking I guess, that they will overturn the guilty verdict??! I think not!! He said he is going to be making a deicison to run again soon, made it sound like he is going to, but I don't think his colleagues will be too happy about this, should be decide to run again. This is the Jim West affair, all over again...

Keith Olbermann tonight mentioned how bizarre it was for Craig to start his press conference with "thanks for coming out today." I also noticed that he said he pled guilty to the offense to "make it go away" - I am sure you'd LOVE to make IT go away Senator.
As for the wife, apparently Craig married only when he was in his 40s (much after he proactively denied being part of the page sex scandal of the early 80s), and adopted her three children. Hmm, ready made family, how

Statement by Matt Foreman, Executive Director
National Gay and Lesbian Task Force
“What’s up with elected officials like Senator Craig? They stand for so-called ‘family values’ and fight basic protections for gay people while furtively seeking other men for sex. Infuriating pathetic hypocrites. What more can you say?
“There is sad irony that a United States senator from Idaho has been caught up in the same kind of thing that destroyed the lives of dozens of men in Boise in the 1950s, so tragically chronicled in ‘Boys of Boise.’
“And by the way, why are Minneapolis tax dollars being used to have plainclothes police officers lurking idly in airport restroom stalls?”
What more can you really say when the whole despicable story speaks for itself? I'm glad he's "not gay" because it gives gays a bad rap. He's a miserable latent homosexual locked in the closet wrapped in a blanket of hypocrisy with an oblivious fag hag for a wife/beard. Disgusting.

Love this, from Dana Milbank in Wednesday's
Post:
QUOTE
Standing next to his wife, who wore sunglasses and looked as if she felt ill, the senator almost shouted as he asserted his heterosexuality.
"Let me be clear: I am not gay. I never have been gay," Craig said. Evidently, Craig did not think this was clear enough, because moments later, he explained why he kept the arrest a secret [. "I wasn't eager to share this failure, but I should have anyway -- because I am not gay!"
As the Craigs departed, somebody in the crowd that had gathered called out after the senator: "Hey, what if you were gay?"
Heckling the disgraced lawmaker at that moment seemed over the top, but the question was a reasonable one. Craig didn't get into trouble for being gay; he got into trouble because he "engaged in conduct which I knew or should have known tended to arouse alarm or resentment."

If you were gay--that'd be OK. But Senator Craig is not gay, just a lying, cruising, closet case who votes against the gay community every chance he gets.
I have some sympathy (and some empathy) for his being gay, and even for his cruising, but I have no sympathy for his hypocrisy, or his anti-gay record.

I have to add my 2 cents here.
When I was a closeted married guy, this is the sort of sick nonsense I would participate in. I have been there there, although never arrested, praise God.
One of the multiple blessing I have received from coming out is that I don't have any desire to do that craziness anymore.
The tragedy in this story is not for the senator. He made his choices. He choose power and influence over honesty, and now is paying the price. I feel for his family who are unwittingly trapped in this morass.
Here in Indiana, there is a similar case with a Republican state senator I think. I don't get this with Republicans. It is like they can't keep their pants on.
