Dallas quarterbacks coach and former player Wade Wilson has been suspended 5 games for buying and using performance-enhancing drugs while he was a Bears assistant. He says he used them to treat his diabetes.

The NFL confirmed that an investigation by the Albany, NY district attorney's office into illegal substance distribution via the Internet led to the Wilson suspension and that of Patriots safety Rodney Harrison.

"I've dealt with [diabetes] almost half my life. I had no idea what I was doing was against league rules," Wilson said, adding that he regretted any embarassment he may have caused the Cowboys.

Wilson spent 17 years as a player in the league, and led the Vikings to three playoff appearances in the 1990s. He said he's had diabetes for the past 24 years, and he wears an insulin pump to help monitor his condition.

When asked if he was trying to help anyone else by supplying them drugs, Wilson, 48, said there was "no other reason at all."

"The idea that I was trying to get this for anyone else is absolutely ludicrous," Wilson said. "What competitive advantage could I gain at this point? I'm not trying to make a comeback."

"Outside of myself and my fiancée, no one else knew that I was taking anything," Wilson said.

Naturally, Jerry Jones says Wilson will return to his job after the suspension is over. Jones has always been soft on crime. tongue.gif

Many diabetics - especially those in sports or serious about fitness - take hgh.

I know of several others who do so.

Hell, I take it along with Metformin and my diabetes is much more recent and milder than Wilson's apparently is. Though I take it primarily for other reasons (prescribed).

The truth of the matter is he is right - he is not playing anymore - what personal benefit could he get?

If he was a dealer or middleman procuring for someone else - like a player - that would obviously be different; but this seems like a bit of a harsh over reaction.
