Somebody please pinch me. The Chiefs went a perfect 5-0 in preseason, and capped it off last night with a perfect drubbing of our arch rival Tri-City with a 6-0 shutout. I can't recall a Chiefs team ever doing so well in preseason. Speaking of seasons, it begins this Friday, as the Chiefs get a nice long 14 hour bus ride way up to Prince George B.C. for 2 games in 2 nights.....let the puck drop! laugh.gif
hockeyTom
The Chiefs kickoff the season with 2 back to back games starting tonight up in Prince George. I understand the WHL Coaches have picked us as a deivision contender this season. Thats refreshing!!! Edmonton got the season under way last night by beating Kootenay 4-3...and with that a hearty GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!
hockeyTom
And Spokane opens the season with a win, 5-2 against the Cougars. Woo-Hoo. Hopefully can take the second game tonight.

Rest assured River I will be pulling for Prince George when they take on the Tri-City Ams here next up. The Yams as we call them are 4-0, and we are breathing down their neck at 3-0. WE have a home and home this next weekend with them, our home opener. Good luck to the Cougars!!!!!!!

ITS BAD WEEKEND

Since losing back to back games against Dri-Shitty over the weekend, Chiefs are in a slump. Lost to Chilliwack yesterday afternoon after getting the first goal. I am concerned. Winless now in 4 games after starting 3-0. Good Lord!

Once again the Chiefs are on fire and have now won 3 straight and move to within 2 points of first, after their second straight win up in Kelowna last night 4-3. Tonight they get the tough task of taking on the Memorial Cup Champs, the Vancouver Giants in Vancouver.

Well the Chiefs continue to impress, and are off to their best start in at least 10 years after posting the WHL leading 7 straight wins and a 2-0 shutout of Seattle here last night....Thanks to the Everett SilverTips beating Tri-City 2-1 in the desert last night, Spokane is just 2 points back of Tri for 1st again. Lets GO CHIEFS!!!!!!
hockeyTom
Sunday night the Chiefs bombed Protland, 9-1 for their 8th straight win. Meanwhile they are getting the respect they deserve from the WHL Coaches poll, and are now sitting pretty in the #2 slot. Woo-Hoo!!!
Joe in Philly
They poll the coaches and rank the teams? Seems redundant since the actual standings determine things.

I wonder what that would be like if the NHL did that, though?
hockeyTom
Yep, its a point situation done weekly.
hockeyTom
Chiefs are in the hunt for their 9th staright win tonight, as they take on Seattle, whom they shutout 2-0 in their first get togther last week, then the Moemorial Cup Champ Vancouver Giants pay us a visit on Saturday before the Chiefs head off to Seattle on Sunday for their 3rd game in 3 nights.
hockeyTom
And Spokane does get its 9th straight win with its second straight back to back shutout of the Seattle Thunderbirds, winning 3-0. Woo-Hoo!! Tonight its the Vancouver Giants who should be truely pissed off because they got smacked by Tri-City 8-2 last night in Tri-City. So, still tied with Tri-City for first in the U.S. Division...just amazing.

It sure is looking that way River. Chiefs FINALLY beat Tri-City this year in their barn over the weekend 5-3, now with a 3 point lead over the Am's for first. Chiefs now have won 6 in a row, again, and getting ready to go up to Calgary now to play the Hitmen on their Central Div. swing.
Marc
The two best teams in the WHL met tonight in front of 7,800 fans at the Saddledome, with the Chiefs beating the Hitmen 2-1 in overtime. Ironically, the kid who scored the winning goal for the Chiefs is from Calgary. I only caught the last few minutes of the game on the radio, while driving home from work tonight. Congratulations on yet another win, Hockeytom!
hockeyTom
Marc, that would be our Captain, and cutie, Chris Bruton....nice crowd up there too in the Saddledome. Chiefs now 21-3 on the season and take on Medicine Hat in their 5 games in 6 night Central Div. road swing.
hockeyTom
It appears the hype of the playoff series for the Western Conference Championship of the WHL, has lived up to its billing and then some, as Spokane scored the only goal of this game at the 46 second mark of the 2nd overtime last night. Chiefs have a 1 game lead in this best of 7 game series. Game two is in the desert again, before the series moves to Spokane early next week. Way to go Chiefs!
hockeyTom
Game two, and this time its the Tri-City Ams' who score the only score of the game, in yet ANOTHER double overtime thriller!! Series now tied at 1-1 and now shifts to Spokane for game 2 and 3. I wouldn't be shocked to see yet another overtime game here. Quite the series...
hockeyTom
Chiefs shut out Tri-City here last night 2-0 and now have a 2-1 lead in the series, with game 4 here again tonight. Chief goalie Dustin Tokarski is just steallar in net. Has about a 1.22 ga which is the leagues best right now.... laugh.gif
hockeyTom
Poor Chiefs goalie Dustin Tokarski, as a clearing attempt from his zone put the puck right in ths hands of a Tri-City player who scores the winner and the Chiefs lose 3-2 in ot. This incredible series is now tied at 2-2 and the game goes back down to Tri-City for game 5 with game 6 in Spokane. If the Chiefs get the win down there, they could come home and take the series.. laugh.gif
hockeyTom
The Chiefs who I will dub the King of overtimes did it again last night down in the desert, and won the game in the second overtime to take a 3-2 series lead. Woo-Hoooooo. Now we come home to Spokane for game 6 where we can close the deal. Third double overtime game of this series.
hockeyTom
Game 6 tonight in Spokane. Chiefs can take this series with a win here. I expect them to do just that. Its time to bury the hatchet, or in this case the Tri-City Americans. lethbridge who will be a formidable opponent awaits, as they swept the Calgary Hitmen, not an easy task. I am concerned though, as to how much gas will be left in the tank for the Chiefs against Lethbridge because of all the overtime and double overtime games in this series...
hockeyTom
All I can say is like the Quizno's commercial M-M-M-M-M. Chiefs had every opportunity in the world to end this and close out the series at home last night. But they could not and did not. mad.gif Again, nothing on 5 powerplay chances, and the Am's win in a single overtime. So, it should come as really no surprise there will be a game 7 in the Tri-Cities tonight. Who ever survives this series is going to be at a huge disadvantage to play Lethbridge, Alta. in the next round. Chiefs and Ams have played sooo many overtime games in this series, they both gotta be running on fumes.
Marc
Congratulations to your Chiefs, Hockeytom! I see they beat your arch-rivals from Tri-City and this time no OT was required. biggrin.gif Now they will go on to face the Lethbridge Hurricanes (who swept the Calgary Hitmen in four games) for the WHL title. Good luck! This year's Memorial Cup finals will be played in Kitchener, ON.

The WHL trophy had been re-named from the President's Cup to the Ed Chynoweth Cup just last year in recognition of his service to the WHL; sadly, Chynoweth died just a week ago.
hockeyTom
Thank you Marc. I was somewhat surprised and pleased we won, but expected yet another overtime in this the 7th game. Many fans here are saying this series will be long remembered as an instant classic. Hard to say we can know much about Lethbridge, who we only played once this season, and lost 2-1, but since they swept your Calgary Hitmen, who are always competetive, they will be formidable....Spokane hasn't been this deep in the playoffs now since about 2000...
hockeyTom
Game 1 tonight in Spokane between the Chiefs and the East Champion Lethbridge Hurricanes. The Coach of the Canes said both teams are pretty similiar, both clubs are speedy skaters who have very stingy goaltenders...should be interesting....I just hope there aren't as many double overtime games in this series that there was in our last series.....
hockeyTom
The Chiefs D just totally shut down the Canes offense last night and Spokane takes a 1-0 lead in the series. I didn't see much fatigue factor for the Chiefs given the death match series with Tri, but then Lerthbridge had been sitting around waiting for our series with Tri-City to end for 9 days. Looked like TSN ( Canada) is carrying the games to fans up north while we got the Comcast feed. Game two here tonight, and we expect a much tougher opponent than we say last night. The winner of this series gets a ticket back to Kitchener, Ontario..
hockeyTom
Spokane scores on 2 of its first 3 shots, and cruises on to take game 2 last night here with a 5-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes...Chiefs now have a 2-0 stranglehold on the Canes and the series now shifts to Emmax Centre in Lethbridge for games 3-5...way to go CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! laugh.gif
hockeyTom
Chiefs are in Lethbridge, Alta. for game 3 tonight. Incidentally, Lethbridge is south of Calgary. A story in the Lethbridge newspaper is pretty much laying the blame for the Canes 0-2 start against Spokane to the Calgary Hitmen, who Lethbridge swept 4-0 in order to play the Chiefs. The paper said if Calgary would have provided more opposition to the Canes, they would be in much better shape. rolleyes.gif laugh.gif
hockeyTom
The overtime guys did it again last night in Lethbridge as the Chiefs win 2-1 ot, and are 1 win away from a trip back east to Kitchener. Shaw cable has done an outstanding job of showing and calling the game. Very well done. smile.gif laugh.gif
Marc
Well your Chiefs did it Hockeytom, congratulations to the WHL champions, who swept the Lethbridge Hurricanes in four games (BTW, that's an odd name for the team; we NEVER get hurricanes in this part of the continent!) I saw part of tonight's game on TV here. So now it's on to the Memorial Cup round-robin next week with teams from the Ontario and Quebec junior leagues and the host team Kitchener Rangers.
hockeyTom
Wow. Amazing group of hockey players. Had someone told me at the start of the season that the Chiefs would be where they are today, I would have asked what are you smoking???? Its been sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long since we have come this far. I couldn't be prouder of this group of kids. They have been on a mission in the playoffs...and now go back east to battle for the Memorial Cup...I understand that former Chief Coach Bryan Maxwell ( formerly of Lethbridge) was in attendance at Enmaxx Centre. Maxwell coahed the Chiefs to their first and only Memorial Cup victory back in 90'91. smile.gif Incidentally Marc, based on a story in my local paper yesterday regarding the name Hurricanes. Guess because the wind is usually blowing in Lethbridge, someone came up with this name. smile.gif
