Just curious: Is enjoying porn (straight or gay) a sign of immorality? And at what point does enjoying porn cross over into becoming an obsession?

I'm looking forward to seeing what people have to say about this?

Mmmmm...this is a good one. I love porn, gay and straight. I don't think that makes me immoral. For some people, it does nothing for them. But, considering how much money the porn business pulls in each year, I'm hardly the only one watching. Why would it be a sign of immorality? Whose judgments are you listening to that came you to even ask if it was immoral? Fondling children is immoral. Cheating on your partner is immoral. Watching people have sex on a DVD or looking at it in a magazine to me is no biggie. I've always been turned on by watching people having sex and before I was in a relationship I enjoyed participating in "extra curricular activities" in which I would watch or someone would watch me. There's probably even still some home videos of me out there but since I'll never run for office its not a big deal. Yes, I'm a little scandalous. cool.gif If that was TMI I apologize. Sometimes I get a little carried away, but sexual topics are things I'm not uncomfortable talking about....obviously.

Anywho...where it becomes an obsession is when your daily functioning becomes affected. If you are in a relationship and are in the other room until 3am on porn sites then you have a problem. If you are spending lots of money that you really don't have on porn sites then you have a problem. If you can't wake up in the morning for work because you've been up til 4am watching porn...well...you get the idea. It becomes an obsession when it affects things in your life to a degree that its causes behavioral changes with negative consequences that are a departure from the way you had normally behaved before the porn took over.

I forget who it was who said it, but some comedian was talking about porn and it's frowned upon by some people, and they lauged and said "It's a 9 Billion dollar a year industry...that isn't 1 person buying 9 billion dollars worth of porn"

I love porn. And many a night have turned down a trick that I meet at a bar, and gone home to curl up with Tiger Tyson. It is safe, and I know that I am not going to catch something.

Porn can become an obsession. After a while, many people say that you become desensitized to it and look for the next big thing. Luckily, for youporn and x-tube you can find anything that you may be in the mood for. Whether it be rimming or a good ole fashion blow-job.

Thank f**king god for porn! As a closeted college athlete I don't get nearly the amount of play that I would like (not that many people do) and sometimes when you are alone you just need a release quicker than your imagination will make possible. tongue.gif That and porn tends to expand the limits of your imagination.

Anyway, I see nothing wrong with porn. It's enjoyable, It's healthy, I'm not going to catch anything, I am spending quality time with someone that I really love, and best of all it doesn't have to cost anything except for my time.

So what's too much? Probably when it begins to interfere with other obligations or your social life.

Thanks for the thoughtful comments on this topic so far. They provided a refreshing perspective on what, for me, is a recurring issue.

Here's my problem: I buy and enjoy gay porn fairly often (as long as it's high-quality material; I hate the sleazier magazines that set my teeth on edge)). However, every now and then I start feeling hideously guilty about my "stash" and throw it out. Within a few weeks, I buy another copy of "Men" magazine, and the cycle starts all over again.

I'm not sure if this is a sign of incipient obsession, a basic discomfort with my sexuality or something else. It's a vexing problem, and I wish I could find a way to make it go away.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble. I appreciate the comments I've read so far on this topic and hope more people will join in.

simple solution Eric

send your stash to me and when you want it back, I can just send it back

of course, the pages might be sticky

One man's "high quality" is another man's "sleazy" and vice versa. smile.gif Anyway, the question you really have to focus on is why you're feeling guilty. But on the other hand, I subscribe to Entertainment Weekly. When I'm done reading it I get rid of it (either in the recycling bin or leaving it on a bus/train in case someone else wants to read it). I don't save it. When you buy a porn mag, do you look at it on multiple occasions or just add it to your stash and buy more new stuff? If you're only reading it once and then putting it away, just throw it away.
