This weekend is the 3rd edition of the "Gay Super Bowl", here in incredible Boston. There's 7 teams--LA, SF, SD, DC, Atlanta, Chicago and Boston--playing today in a "seeding" series of games. The team with the biggest point differential will get a bye, the other 6 will be ranked accordingly, with 1 playing 6 etc. The championship is on Sunday.
Last night was the meet-and-greet party at a local bar called Machine, down the street from a brightly-lit Fenway Park. It was packed, and if you
find yourself thinking \"Where's the masculine, \"normal\" men, last night, TONS of them. The Boston organizers are a couple--WAY cute--and they are so sweet and nice. Lots of friendly guys, tons o' hotties and lots of friendly "We're going to clean your clock tomorrow" type of bantering.
Game reports later.

Random impressions from Day 1, having missed the early games (sleep was more important):
LA Motion was a little nervous and shakey on D but managed to handle SF; Washington is the surprise so far, playing tough D and moving the ball well--they're first-timers here but have to be considered major factors; Boston tired a bit in the second half of the game I saw them play; Atlanta looks good on offense; Chicago has played well but they don't seem to have many reserves, so tiring is inevitible; the weather is great, but it's not expected to hold (rain tomorrow afternoon).
I've met a lot of really nice guys, including Kevin from Chicago and Chris from Boston, who has a leg injury and can't play. The atmosphere is competitive, but friendly. And to the Boston guy who owns the bulldog, your ass is fine.

Wow, what rocket scientist thought it'd be a good idea to play 10:00 am Sunday games?
The after-game party at Maggiano's was a madhouse last night; WAY over-crowded, but that just meant one got to squeeze up against all that football player manflesh even more! It was nice to see a lot of the guys freshly scrubbed, nicely coiffed and dressed well.
The Boston organizers got a big round of applause for their efforts. They passed the torch to Atlanta, who will be hosting Gay Bowl IV, details to follow. I was told that the fields will be at Georgia Tech, which is in the "gay area"; the fields are supposed to be that new "natural" Astro-turf kind of deal.
Off to the games. DC has come from nowhere and is seeded #1, so they get to sleep in today (their first game is at noon). It's Rematch City otherwise: Los Angeles v. Boston, Atlanta v. Chicago and San Diego v. San Francisco. It's single elimination now, the winners will re-seeded and go on to the semi-finals.
Go LA Motion!

Well, today was the final day of the tournament. To say that the weather was a factor would be an understatement of vast proportions.
I got there just as the first games were starting at 10:00. It was a bit drizzly; by the time the Championship game rolled around, it was rain worthy of the phrase "Biblical--40 Days and 40 Nights". It was sheets of rain.
The early games can be summed up easily: Chicago played really well and beat Atlanta handily (sorry, my brain is frozen, I can't remember the scores); in an all-Best Coast game, San Diego beat San Francisco in a nailbaiter. Special mention must be made of SF QB Len, who thrashed his leg yesterday and still played incredibly today. Two-time champs Los Angeles were bumped out in the first round by a well-organized Boston team. Boston had a good game plan on offense and made the plays they needed on defense.
Washington was really impressive in their game against Boston. A cool-as-the-other-side-of-the-pillow QB, some sure-handed receivers and an agressive defense allowed them to win. Chicago played well against San Diego and pulled out a win.
In the championship, it was back and forth between Washington and Chicago, Washington ultimately prevailing in appalling conditions. Special note must be made of the hotness of Chicago's Kevin (#6), an excellent player on defense especially and (sorry, not sure of the names) #23; and #'s 88 and 57 from Washington. I really felt sorry for the Washington and Chicago players; nobody had a second jersey, few had second undershirts and a lot of them were wearing shorts; I hope that nobody gets pneumonia.
Big props to Robert, the Boston organizer for his tireless efforts to keep things moving. He's only human though and couldn't control the weather.
There's two or three post-game parties but I'm zonked and am going out to a quiet dinner with some Los Angeles friends and our friend Steve and his partner Jerry, in from New Orleans.
On to Atlanta, 2004.

So, of course, it's sunny blue skies and a light breeze today here in Boston! It's, erm, perfect football weather actually.
I've fallen in love with Boston and want to come back here for an Angels v. Sox tilt.
Big thanks to all the nice people here in Boston, to all the cool players and fellow hanger-on's that I met at the fields and most of all, huge thanks to my friend Don for putting up with me and my bizarre hours.

Just thought I'd log on and say thanks again to the Boston guys for organizing a great tourney. I suppose we can't blame them for the weather, but didn't the gay soccer world cup get rained on in Boston too?? Congrats to Washington. They played a tight, clean game. They were the first team to really make us rethink the way we played our defense.
It was good as always to see Jim and Cyd, even if I didn't get a chance to rush past the latter to sack the former. We just didn't meet each other at this tournement.
I also got to meet Red Sox Breath at the fields and learned his real name. Woah. And at the Maggiano's dinner I met Jim Allen. Nice to meet you both!
Now, I'm off to get a good night's rest cuz I'm awfully sore.
Oh, but there was NO shortage of cute fellas at the tourney or at the bars. A fun weekend was had by all!
Looking forward to Atlanta already.

Yeah, it's always nice to meet Outsporters and put a face to an onscreen name. Curt was a total stud for Chicago; he reeled off some great runs.
As was expected, when I went to Logan today, it was glorious sunshine and a light breeze. Perfect football weather, in fact....
CurtJ, a private message is waiting for you.

Dang! I was at Machine that night, too! OK, I did see some nice manflesh (did one of you guys let me examine your PA up close? - I am serious!).
Glad you guys enjoyed Boston.

Just got back into town. Had a great time and it's always nice to see Curt (a totally cool guy). It was a shame we didn't get to play his team since him chasing me always makes me run that much faster!
The event continues to grow and we expect more teams in Atlanta next October.

Ok, if CurtJ can manage to play volleyball and football, then count me in. Sorry that Chicago didn't win, CurtJ, buuut congrats to my friends on the DC team. We had a little celebration here, which was fun. Seemed like I missed a good time. It's ON next year.

Yeah, the DC team was really impressive. Great uniforms, a cool name--"The Monuments"--a good game plan well executed and some real hotties, visually. An "expansion" team winning it all in the first year, that gives hope to other teams. I'm still surprised there's no teams from that alleged hotbed of football, Texas.
Atlanta 2004 should be a blast.

From the story:
QUOTE
Former All-Pro New England Patriots linebacker Andre Tippett was a special guest on Saturday, tossing the ceremonial coin. Tippett, who attended at the request of the Patriots, said he thought it was important to show solidarity with the gay community and try to help break down barriers in sports. He was very cordial and friendly and looked like he wanted to suit up and play. The Patriots also donated official NFL footballs to each of the participating tournament teams.
Way to go, Andre and the Patriots!

After the Boston organizer promised that the entire Boston team would go shirtless on Tournament Day [to make up for their lack of skin on the first day], and then it turned into a cold monsoon, I have a new promise from him: everyone NAKED next time in Atlanta!

I guess the locals must know their weather better than the suckered visitors....
I'd like to thank those that were cooperative with me in having their pictures taken. Some more so than others. I guess I missed out when I was at a fancy dinner instead of the wherever Team Atlanta decided to start stripping down...anyone have pictures of that??
I can only hope that October of next year produces an unexpected heat wave in Atlanta, leaving only me and the water boy to act as your official Outsports Proxy!
