My favorite actress, right now, is Rachel McAdams. I loved her in "the Notebook", "Red Eye" and "the Family Stone".
But she seems to have fallen off the movie map. Does anyone know what she'll be in, anytime soon?
My other favorites include Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Even Rachel Wood and America Ferrera.
I would love to hear who your favorite actresses are?

Without question for me it's Meryl Streep.British actresses Helen Mirren and Emma Thompson are incredible.
I also think when Cher was serious about acting that she was excellent. As far as the younger set,the beautiful Halle Berry has done some great work.

Rachel McAdams needs the right movie to be a major star- and what ever happened to Helen Hunt?!

You mention Hanna Schygulla... Which brings to my mind Margit Carstensen. I absolutely love her in Fassbinder's hilarious and superb
The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant and the baroque
Chinese Roulette.
And Carmen Maura will forever be in my memory for
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.
Maggie Cheung in
In the Mood for Love... Breathtaking.
I will add an actress that I think hasn't been mentioned: Isabelle Huppert.
La pianiste. Wow...
One of my favorite Meryl Streep's films is
Postcards from the Edge, with the awesome Shirley MacLaine. In a campy way, my favorite Streep role is as romance novelist Mary Fisher in
She-Devil.

She makes the film totally worth it.

I also like:
Halle Berry
Angela Bassett
Toni Collette
the beautiful Salma Hayek
My mind is all over the place. So we will go with these right now.

The Bitter Tears... is one of my favorites too! I've never seen
Chinese Roulette, though. Will have to check it out.

Have you seen her in
Irma Vep? It's an Olivier Assayas film. A very strange, very fun film.

While I've always liked Sally Field plenty, Sybil is still one of the most compelling movies and performances I've ever seen, her work in Brothers and Sisters is simply outstanding. She's the mom of all moms with immense complexity and not so subtle emotion. She's truly great on this show.
Don't forget Joanne Woodward, who's a tremendous actress.
I like:
Meryl Streep
Susan Sarandon
Annette Bening (underutilized these days)
Glenn Close (underutilized in the movies but great in Damages)
Holly Hunter (oh so great in her tv series)
Isabelle Huppert
Isabelle Adjani
Catherine Deneuve
Juliette Binoche
Anne Parillaud
Cherry Jones
