Full Version: Shut up about Tebow

John King
I like Tebow, he is a good quarterback, and yes he is a good-looking guy. But the whole South Carolina/Florida game the announcers went on, and on, and on, and on about him. The camera stayed on him the entire game even when South Carolina had the ball. They compared him to other quarterbacks, they talked about him being the NFL, about rushing yards, his dick size, his shoe size, what his favorite color is, what he had for breakfast, etc.
boomer400
He has already set the single season rush TD record for UF and is involved in almost every scoring play. He's white, good looking and charismatic on a mostly anonymous team. He's the obvious leader on the field and a Heisman candidate. Of course people are going to talk about him...

Even when Chris Leak was the starting QB, Tebow was the center of attention. Florida isn't even relevant this year--wait until they get back in the national championship picture for the really over the top hagiography to kick into gear.
John King
I respect and admire his accomplishments. But jeez, must you spend an entire game glorifying him? It is on par with Entertainment Tonight's obsession with Anna Nicole Smith, and the paparazzi's obsession with Britney Spears.
SteelResolve
....John, did you say the announcers talked about Tebow's dick size???.....ummm.....well just out of curiosity, what size was that? LOL.
GymMountainEER
OK

I would have agreed with you earlier in the year and even commented further on the Tebow Hype.

Trust me, as most will attest to, I have no affinity for the SEC or ACC.

With that being said, I am now on the Tebow bandwagon. The kid had 7 touchdowns without PercyHarvin against the ole Ball coach Saturday.

Tebow has over running and passing 20 touchowns combining for 40 plus TD's.

He's easy on the eyes, a good kid, only a true sophomore, and plays without a lot of passion.

He's the best player in the country- hands down.

That takes a lot for me to say considering Pat White will most likely be a Heisman top 5 candidate in NYC.

They were even talking about Tebow tonight during the first quarter of the Oregon/Arizona game. Sigh...
Maddog
There are only 3 real Heisman candidates.

I want to know how big his

feet are

I felt the same way watching some of the BC games. It was a constant Matt Ryan love-fest. During the whole game, they would simply go on and on about him as if he was the only one on the field. It got to the point where I was glad to see BC lose just to knock down the hype a little.

Ryan's a talented guy and decent-looking too, but give me a break!

Get used to the Tebow love: he's on the short list for the Maxwell Award, for the best all around player, alongside Dennis Dixon and Darren McFadden.

Tebow is also a nominee for the Davey O'Brien National QB Award, alongside Dixon, again, and Chase Daniel from Mizzou, whom I believe to be a bit underrated...
John King
I think that it is excessive when they cut from the field every few minutes to focus on Tebow. I want to watch the game not Tim Tebow.

Talented? Yes

Decent looking? Depends on taste and perspective wink.gif
Buck
Talented and pretty ugly, is you ask me (Tebow, that is). huh.gif

I think it's a common phenomenon not limited to Tebow. There's so much hype about some football games that football itself becomes secondary. The media is convinced that everyone rather wants to hear about Tebow so you're going to hear about Tebow. And maybe they're right. And why talk about football and show the world that you have no clue about the game?

Just stay clear of the games an teams that bring a lot of hype with them.
NoLongerHere
Tebow has more rushing TDs than former Heisman winners who earned the trophy as running backs. Just another argument in his favor. But more about Tebow, who has apparently broken his hand (and yeah, he'll still play, begging for even more praise and Superman talk...):

Tebow's an attractive guy IMO. I'm a pretty good judge most of the time on these matters. wink.gif
Maddog
I don't find him attractive but he has a great body and is extremely fun to watch. If he doesn't win the Heisman it's only because he's a sophomore.

On another note I get a little gay vibe from him. I don't know if it's his openness and friendliness or his dedication to the weight room and everything else non-social or the sweet kiss from his roommate early in the season but I feel it a little bit. How awesome would that be if this "superman" that all quarterbacks will be judged against for decades to come is gay? And comes out right before his NFL draft. biggrin.gif

boomer400
I can't figure out whether any of the big QBs this year are good-looking -- Chase Daniel, Matt Ryan, and Tebow all vacillate between butt ugly and really hot.
NoLongerHere
Chase Daniel is cute, IMO. A smaller version of Steelers QB "Big Ben," who is occasionally cute himself. I like Chase. Tebow = SCHWING!

Tebow Goes for Heisman First.

As tough as Tebow is, (he played a game in high school on a broken leg), don't be surprised if he sheds a few tears if he wins the Heisman.

"I am soft like that," he said.

He's tough, talented and not afraid to show his sensitive side. biggrin.gif

OMG...I can't believe I haven't seen this thread yet. Otherwise, I would've commented LONG before now. ESPN is certainly on Tebow's dick. Its sickening how much they are hyping this kid up to be. Yes he's very talented but the way ESPN drools over him gets on my nerves, and is the reason why so many people, including myself, were thrilled that Michigan beat them last night. With 90+% of people thinking Florida was going to win their bowl game, Tebow keeps it back to back years that Heisman winning QBs lose their bowl games. He didn't look like the hype machine ESPN has built him up to be last night. Good job Michigan. Was nice to see Carr go out on a high.
SCTrojan
Heisman winners (regardless if they were quarterbacks or not) have a higher % of losing their bowl games in recent memory versus winning them. It just seems to come w/ the territory. Some sportswriters like to call it the "Heisman curse." But I think you hit the nail on the head. It's more about hyping up a player & his opponents becoming fired up to embarrass him. Tebow is actually a great leader. Michigan was out to prove that he isn't.
Maddog
I do think Tebow is over-exposed but he is a great quarterback on an extremely average football team. I believe he's the only reason they were bowl eligible this year.

Go Blue! biggrin.gif

It wasn't like Tebow was *awful* yesterday - in fact, of the Heisman finalists, he performed the best. I did think, though, that the commentators over-praised him yesterday. While I think he did a solid job, the announcers were all, "Look at him blink. Wow. Heisman!"

And Maddog is right: statswise, Tebow and Percy Harvin accounts for something like 99.9% of Florida's points.

Yes, there's a new drinking game where you have to take a drink every time they mention Tebow's name during the broadcast.
