Okay, it's not sports, but it is local. wink After the Phils game on Saturday, phillyrunner and I were talking about getting together again and we thought that the 15th annual Dining Out For Life fundraiser (in which 33 percent of your food bill at participating restaurants that day goes to local HIV/AIDS programs) would be a good thing to do. Ted P. is planning to join us. If anyone else in the area would also like to join us, let me know by the end of the week.

They have something like that in Toronto:
A Taste For Life. I've never been, though.
JiP, don't forget to post photos of drunken Outsporters. It's for a good cause, after all. wink

It's "Dining" Out For Life, not "Drinking" Out. wink

We just did a "Dine Out for Life" Thursday night as well here in San Francisco. 50-60 restaurants participate, giving 25% of their profits to the local Stop AIDS Project organization. Since tomorrow is my birthday, I told Dennis he could consider that my birthday dinner and had him pick up the tab (even though I really pay it, since he doesn't work). It was a great way to have a good time, eat at a restaurant we've never been to before, and see the friend who initially told us about it, and contribute back to the community too. Should you hear of one in your city, I recommend doing it.

And you never know who you might meet there.
Lots of folks who don't dine out that often show up for a cause.

Well, phillyrunner had to cancel at the last minute, as did a friend of Ted P., so it was only 2 of us on Thursday night, and we didn't see anyone famous! wink
However, as we neared the subway to take our respective trains home we found an elderly businessman lying face-down on the ground, with people trying to help him. I saw drops falling into a large spot and realized he had bled quite a bit, so he must have taken a hard fall. He insisted on getting up and walking to catch his train, even after he was told that a transit employee had called and a rescue squad was on the way.
