I don't even buy 10 CDs a year any more, so this will have to be top 5.

1. Arcade Fire -- Neon Bible
2. Kanye West -- Graduation
3. Nine Inch Nails -- Year Zero
4. Jens Lekman -- Night Falls Over Kortadella
5. Grizzly Bear --- Friend

On the fence: Radiohead -- In Rainbows (this one hasn't quite grabbed me yet).

And, B Man, Sound of Silver would definitely be on my list, but according to iTunes it was 2006.

I honestly don't know how many CDs I've bought this year. I'm pretty sure it's not too many, and some of them may have been pre-2007 releases. I suppose I could go through my lists and come up with something but I think I downloaded more pre-2007 songs individually than anything else this year.

What?! No MIKA?

"Grace Kelly" would be on my 2007 mix tape, but IMO the rest of the album is pretty blah.

Also MIA's Kala will probably be in my final top 10.

I didn't buy enough brand-new CDs to make a top 10 of '07 list, but here are my favorites (in no particular order):

Annie Lennox, Songs of Mass Destruction.
Bruce Springsteen, Magic.
Bettye LaVette, Scene of the Crime.

10. Hey There Delilah - Plain White Tees
9. Bearforce 1 - Bearforce1
8. Taking Chances - Celine Dion
7. Change - Kimberley Locke
6. Before He Cheats - Carrie Underwoodl
5. Alfie - Lily Allen
4. Big Girls Don't Cry - Fergie
3. Bubbly - Colbie Caillat
2. Moondance (remake) - Michael Buble
1. Young Folks - Peter Bjorn and John
ruggerphredd
In no particular order, just as I thought of them:

1. Can't Fight the Feeling - Celine Dion (The girl rocks out on this tune from her "Taking Chances" and it's totally different from what we're used to from her. Currently my favorite from the CD.)

2. End of the World - Blake Lewis (I was not really a fan of his when he was on American Idol, but I was quite surprised by how much I like his CD "Audio Day Dream". This song is a standout for me.)

3. I Know Where I've Been - Queen Latifah (This is on both the "Hairspray" Soundtrack and on her current jazz/blues CD "Trav'lin' Light". I love her recent forays into jazz, blues and standards and this song has a great message as well as showing off her voal abilities.)

4. Thankful - Jonny Lang & Michael McDonald ( I think Jonny's CD "Turn Around" was released last year, but I didn't discover it for myself until this past Spring. The whole CD is great, but I really like the gospel feel of this cut.)

5. Paralyzer - Finger Eleven (Every time I hear this one I have to crank it up. Maybe I should buy it.)

6. Train Wreck - Elliott Yamin (My Favorite Season 5 Contestant from Idol. A great CD, and this song is my favorite from it.)

7. Get This Party Started - Dame Shirley Basey (I absolutely LOVE, LOVE LOVE her take on P!nk's hit. And for 70, this woman looks fantastic!)

8. Gimme More - Britney Spears (As much as I hate to admit it, when I hear it, it gets stuck in my head and I actually don't mind)

9. So She Dances - Josh Groban (Beautiful voice, beautiful song.)

10. Venus Envy - Gino Vannelli (A great Latin flavored jazz tune from his "These Are The Days" CD, released last year. It's a mix of new and old songs of his. But I totally fell in love with this particular song this summer.)

Good choices! I could've written the same list (except for the Carrie Underwood song, which I hated). I'd substitute it with Kelly Clarkson's "Irvine." Kelly's "My December," was a masterpiece in my opinion, no matter what Clive Davis says. The CD I was most surprised that I liked this year was Celine's "Taking Chances." I'm not a huge Celine fan, but I really liked it, especially the title track.

Trust me, I don't like her. And truthfully, this is the first song that she came out with that I like. I dreaded Umbrella, and it seemed to be everywhere last summer.

Blake Lewis "Audio Day Dream" is definitely on my play schedule right now and I especially enjoy the 80s inspired ballads on his CD. Absolutely love "End of the World" and "1000 Miles"

I am also a fan of "Change" by Kimberley Locke

As another poster indicated, I did enjoy Kelly Clarkson's album- I think Clive Davis put the huge block on the album with the bad press on her.... I think he used his "power" to influence some radio stations from avoiding her album. The songs "Sober", "Irvine" and "Never Again" are some of my favorites of 2007.

Josh Groban "You are Loved" and "February Song" (are these from 2006?)

Also enjoyed "Big Girls Don't Cry" quite a bit until it was overplayed to a ridiculous level on the radio.

I loved the song from Hairspray- "New Girl in Town"

I love Rihanna. Her "Good Girl Gone Bad" CD is awesome from beginning to end.

Ok, so I went on to iTunes and listened to some of your choices. My best discovery was Grizzly Bear - I had never heard of them, but I'm really enjoying their tunes.

Like softballstud, I'm on the hunt now, too. Thanks for the honesty re: Radiohead... Music is expensive these days! I just got a hold of Roisin Murphy's most recent CD, which was released just weeks ago... So, hmmm, I may need to jumble my list. Researching now: Colbie Caillat and Pete Bjorn and John.
Mariner Duck Guy
There are a few more days before I can post my list. I use the 25 most played songs feature on itunes to see what songs rocked my ipod. I took a sneak peek and #1 & #2 are solid but #'s 3 - 25 are only a couple of plays apart so in the next 2 days, a song currently in the #25 spot could jump up to #3.

I didn't buy much full albums (I think I may have only purchased 3 full albums all year). I mainly purchased tracks off albums.

Anyhoo, I'll post my list sometime next week, along with links to a place where you can watch the videos of the songs, if available.

Thanks everyone for posting your lists!

9.I Am - Chrisette Michele

8.Graduation - Kanye West

7.Planet Earth - Prince

6.Because of You - Ne-Yo

5.As I Am - Alicia Keys

4.Wines & Spirits - Rahsaan Patterson

1.The Daily News - Donnie
Joe in Philly
As I mentioned, I don't think I bought more than 10 or so 2007 CD releases. And a lot of the songs I downloaded were actually old songs I haven't heard in awhile and may have on cassette or vinyl.

But I've come up with a short list -- 3 full CDs and a few other songs that I've especially enjoyed in 2007:

Back to Black-Amy Winehouse
Version-Mark Ronson
Songs of Mass Destruction-Annie Lennox

Sweet Escape-Gwen Stefani
Yummy-Gwen Stefani
Glamorous-Fergie
Bleed It Out-Linkin Park
Shut up and Drive-Rihanna
The Way I Are-Timbaland
Bridge over Troubled Water-Annie Lennox (live from American Idol "Idol Gives Back")

Love that list John.

Mine would be:

1. Get Me Bodied--Beyonce
2. Just Fine-- Mary J. Blige
3. Bed--J. Holiday
4. Flashing Lights--Kanye West
5. The Way I Are--Timbaland
6. Shoulda Let You Go--Keyshia Cole
7. Umbrella--Rihanna
8. Party Like a Rock Star--Shop Boyz
9. No Te Veo--Casa De Leones
10.Because of You--Neyo

Honorable mention: Crank That--Souljah Boy (I hated the song at first but its one of those damn tunes that gets in your head and I ended up loving it by the end of the year. Hate it all you want...it was one of the top songs of 2007.) tongue.gif

Another honorable mention to Apologize by One Republic featuring Timbaland. Timbaland is a genius and the best producer in the game.

Damn...I keep thinking of honorable mentions: Like This--Kelly Rowland and ::gulp:: I'm So Hood--DJ Khaled featuring T-Pain...I hate myself for loving this song. The lyrics are horrible and about everything thats wrong with hip hop nowadays but the beat is tight!! Oh and Bartender--T-Pain is another honorable mention. In addition...Common's I Want You. Common is one of the few bright spots of hip hop. Oh and Makes Me Wonder--Maroon 5 was another favorite of mine in 2007. And even though the Dreamgirls soundtrack came out in late 2006, I didn't see the movie until '07 nor hear the soundtrack. I love One Night Only (disco version). I just think of Studio 54 atmosphere when that comes on and its my favorite song of the movie. Shit I should've just done a top 20 list. rolleyes.gif

I can only add two albums:

"Back to Black" by Amy Winehouse
"The Evolution of Robin Thicke" by Robin Thicke

23. Talkin' 2 Myself: Ayumi Hamasaki. Love Her. Undisputed queen of all media in Japan for many years. Mixes dance, pop, rock & image in her music. Her latest video (don't) leave me alone is HAWT.
24. Free and Easy (Down the Road I Go): Dierks Bentley
25. Then Silence: Kjartan Salvesen

Here are the links to my youtube page with most of the videos: MDG Top songs

Happy listening in 2008!

Although I listened to a lot of new music this year, I only downloaded one album. How sad is that? I guess I just prefer the oldies...lol.

Oh the album is of course...

Softballstud, I'm glad you liked them. Their 2006 album, Yellow House, was even better than Friends. Listen to "Plans," and "Colorado." By the way, that other Bear (Panda) that a few people mentioned is also worth checking out -- Person Pitch.

I'm with Just Eddie on this one. I don't see what's so great about Rhianna. Umbrella has to be my most annoying song of last year. I don't think I ever made it thru the whole song or the video. Her voice is the proverbial nails on a chalkboard to me.

Can't believe no one mentioned Daughtry.

Wow. I found this incomprehensible, to be honest. "Umbrella" is just a terrific pop song. It's got hooks for days, it has that low slung, slow-motion, hip-slurring backbeat...it's I just couldn't understand why anyone wouldn't fall for its charms.

I agree with ursaminorjim. "Umbrella" has a killer hook. I actually enjoy Rihanna. I appreciate her for what she is. A pretty, pop star with catchy songs. "Pon de Replay", "S.O.S", "We Ride", Umbrella", "Shut Up And Drive", and "Don't Stop The Music". Lovely. I LOVE the Jody ven Broeder mix of "Don't Stop The Music".

And Jim, I'm glad you listed Kylie's "X" on your best list. I love that CD. I got the japanese import version with the bonus tracks. Her videos for "Wow" and "In My Arms" are totally Kylie. Shall I say...Minoguealicious even?
