Coming Thursday: Jerk of the year

I voted for Christine Daniels for breaking new barriers...

I would like to make a motion (if possible) to name the Outsports Person of the Year after Anthony Castro... he truly is reflective of those who come to the site and as a posthumous honor to him, I thought it would be nice. It would be so easy to name it after one of our gay pro sports icons, but I think Anthony truly just respresents "us".

I voted for Anthony Castro. I can't believe I didn't see that story until just now. That is truly heartbreaking. He's someone I wish I'd known. For all of those who are familiar with the town of Banning, a gay athlete being out in high school is tremendously courageous. I can't think of anyone more deserving of being named Outsports' person of the year.

Out in high school? Amazing, brave, admirable. He might be absent in body but it sounds like his impression on this world will be felt for a very long time.

I voted for all those out athletes at colleges, etc., across the country. I fully appreciate and respect all the other 'nominees' and their stories, but I just love to hear about all those brave men and women in their late teens and early twenties stepping out as themselves, showing everyone who they are and why they matter. They warm my heart and impress my spirit.

Anthony Castro gets my vote... his story was inspiring and heartbreaking... he definitely deserves the award.

I was so stunned to see how many votes Anthony got after I voted for him, I actually shed a tear. I thought, "Well, Amechi or the college guys are both fantastic, but right now, I'll vote for Anthony as an underdog vote because I think he's the coolest guy out there right now" ....and lo and behold, he's well ahead of the #2 vote!

Go Anthony! Your memory lives on.
