In case you were wondering, the scores for today's games:

San Francisco 26, Boston 12
Los Angeles 64, San Francisco 12
Los Angeles 74, Boston 0

A really great time was had by all, and it looks like there will be a Gay Super Bowl II in Boston next year - so, get your teams together - we're looking to help guys in other cities build teams.

A story and photos will appear on Outsports later this week.

I watched the San Francisco v. Boston game and parts of the Los Angeles v. San Francisco game. San Francisco played well but it was Boston's turnovers that killed them--they were driving for a score and got picked near the SF endzone, that really hurt. They also had a dropped interception that was probably a TD. The worst part for them was their captain broke his wrist late in the first half. He'll be alright but what a drag--fly all that way and break your wrist. Plus, um, Boston has some really, really cute players, as Brent's photos will attest.

Los Angeles smoked both teams they played--they are truly in a class by themselves. Unless there's some juggernaut out there that we haven't heard of, no one is in Team Los Angeles' class right now. They have a great QB, speed to burn, a great, together defense and great role-players.

Beat LA? I can't see anyone doing it unless they are really good.

WTG LA Movers!

I had a blast this weekend meeting everyone at the game and the Fubar mixer. I know what you mean about the strength of the LA team. I was behind the Boston dudes when the SF/LA game started and within 5 minutes they were talking about needing divine intervention to win against the Movers. I suggested In and Out Double doubles and although it didn't help their score, they seemed "wicked" satisfied.

And I totally concur about some cuties on the Boston team. There was one in particular that I could eat like Emile. (but I won't mention any names...)

And definitely some cuties on the SF team (as well as their fans in the stands) and of course all of the LA studs were looking good. (I never wanted to be a hanging strip of tangerine-tinted nylon more in all of my life.) (Well actually there was one time on vacation in Belize, but that's for another thread...)

Thanks for a great time and I'm looking forward to next year and other Outsports events.

Take Good Care

Beat L.A.? Hmmm.... the Chicago league is pretty tough. I reckon we could throw together a pretty good squad. We'll be sure to send a team next year.

What was funny to me was how a few members of Boston were mouthing the usual East Coast nonsense about them (Easterners) being all tough and working class and Team LA being soft and obsessed with their looks, you know, the usual tedious stereotypes about Los Angeles' denizens. Well, it doesn't matter how tough you or the town you come from is; if your QB can't hit open receivers, your receivers can't catch the ball and your defense gets opened liked a can of tuna by a team that has about half-a-dozen excellent receivers (including 2 or 3 who have sprinter's speed) and a QB who's 6'5" and can throw a 40 yard pass on a dime, well, then you're going to get smoked by double digits.

One thing that cannot be underestimated about Team LA is that they play nearly every week for roughly 7 months. There was no cramping of the legs with them because they are in football shape, not gym shape. And by playing so much, every guy on that team knows what the other is doing, which is especially crucial when playing defense. I hope more teams can play next year in Boston, it'd be great to see teams from Texas and Florida, those football hotbeds.

For the record, I am not Team LA's PR hack. I just know most of the team members and know how they play.

i played last weekend for the s.f. team and we had a great time competing against both teams - although we had our butts kicked by l.a. once again.
i did not hear any of the comments from the boston team that you cite about the l.a. group being soft or concerned with their looks. perhaps i wasn't sitting as close to them as you were. i thought the entire weekend of competing against and meeting the members of both teams was a positive and i didn't get any negative vibes at all on either day.
i agree with you on strength of the l.a team which is physically talented but more importantly, well organized - everyone knows and understands their roles and it is obvious that they have played together a while.
the boston team had only been playing together for about a month and the s.f. team has played for seven months but we are more akin to a "pickup" game as opposed to a team with roles. no excuses at all. l.a. is a very good team.

I want to publicly thank Boston and San Francisco for coming out and making it a special weekend. I know everyone had a very good time. In three spirited, well-played games Saturday there was not a single argument and everyone handled themselves with aplomb. On Sunday we played a ``friendly'' for 3 1/2 hours in a nice park, mixing up the teams; it was a picnic-like atmosphere and was really cool. The players from all 3 teams got along. Boston did do some pre-game woofing, which was good-natured and did not carry over onto the field. All in all, a great success.

We would love other cities to compete; this will be an annual event, with next year tentatively set for Boston in the spring. San Francisco would then host and we would rotate back to LA or to whatever new city came along. Outsports will have details when they become available. Photos will be up in a couple of days.

Glad it went well, but next time, and for all gay sports events, MORE ADVANCE PUBLICITY so we with the crowded calendars can attend! Or, as the Countess de Lave put it, "La publicite, oooo, la pub-li-ci-te!"

I'd love to get a team together up here, but most guys in Montréal have never even heard of a "4th down."

Maybe I can join a U.S. team as an "imported substitute?" I can run patterns like the dickens, and can still kick a 40-yd field goal.

I wanna play!

Hey Seph, we do need a rogue specialist!

I meant to post this earlier, but I just really want to thank Cyd and Jim for organizing the first annual Gay Superbowl. I know I speak for everyone when I say that I had an absolute blast and I can't wait for Boston in 2003.

Tell Demond he's not getting that shovel pass on me again!! LOL!

Hey, I heard the second Gay Super Bowl was happening in San Fran instead of Boston and that the dates are April 26-27.

Is my information accurate?? I can't find anything on the Oustports site mentioning it.
Jim at Outsports
Correct. The games are April 26-27 in SF.
Teams playing: LA, Chicago, SF, Atlanta, San Diego and Boston.

Next one is Columbus Day weekend in Boston and then Columbus Day weekend every year.

cool beans. I'll be out there with the chicago squad, then. although since we are still living in a tundra, I don't know how much practice we'll get before then.
